That old '98 when retired at 700K had full compression on all 8 and burn a liter of oil every 5000km like the day I bought it. If we knew then what we know now it would still be in the family. DOH!
That 454 is such a fantastic motor, I have owned several of those Vortec 7400's over the years, and they have always been a good engine. Although need to get the injectors upgraded, the adjustable valve-train installed, and the distributor upgraded to make most of them perfect. I have always run a MSD 6AL, and the 8.5mm wires, and the Bosch platinum plugs in em, along with headers and some better exhaust will buy you some fuel mileage. There is a lot you can do to wake that motor up without getting inside of it. Looks like you got yourself a mighty fine ride.
I got a 97 chevy k2500 454 vortec that I love very much and wouldn't give up for anything down here in the US. Currently has over 237,000 miles which would be over 381,000 kilometers. But I love it even though it is starting to show its aging downfalls
I have always loved the 454. The 350 is a great motor. I had one for years, In a caprice. it is like a race horse. The 454 is perfect for it's place, it is like a Clydesdale. Treated right and kept up, it will pull all day long. I have a Dodge also, with the 318. great grocery getter, won't pull anything. Barley stays on the road with a 1/4 of a bed of wood or sand. it is designed for light use. My 1988 chevy dually doesn't care what you put in it.
I have a 3500 4x4 crew cab with the single rear wheel, I wanted to use it for trails and not have to worry about rocks getting stuck between the duals. They’re out there, just takes a little more patience to find. At least in my area of the US, worth it though.
Dad had a 95 6.5 that went around 675xxx kms before it bit the dust. Gutless as hell but great on fuel and very reliable. Even survived being filled with a tank of gas at the res (thanks to the attendant)... Love the old Chevs I got 470xxx on my 2002 lb7 and she still takes me 2000km round trip to work and on every sled trip. Believe 99 was the first 6.0l
hey there so i have a 1998 c3500 4 door crew cab single wheel with the 5.7 vortec in it great truck no problems with it towed alot. With it hills on it it does struggle but after a wile it gains back and great find on this truck and keep up the great videos :D
Cool truck to remove box and put a deck on it. I swap trucks out far to often as well, been pondering a 3/4 or 1 ton gas or diesel to do that very thing. 200,000 kms that big block should be just broke in now.
I had a 99 2wd crew 8ft bed, 454, same interior, I liked it as well, but a gas hog, wow, 99 was the new year body, half and 3/4, 1 ton still old style, have fun with the truck
Nice truck. Not sure if you have driven a dully in the snow. Get ready for the butt wiggle. Your rear tires will dance in and out of the tracks your front tires make. Still a nice truck.
It was 99 they changed over. I have a 99 gmc c3500 and i love it so much. It was a dump but It rotted so I put a flat body on it. Got her for 2gs and it’s only got 70k on it.
I have an 88 k1500 and a 00 k3500. First and last year of the gmt400 platform. If it makes you feel better, my 00 k3500 crew cab long box single wheel only gets 12mpg highway with the 5.7 vortec. It struggles to get 8mpg city.
I have a 93 k1500 had 250k miles was my grandpa's. Got in a wreck with it, tow yard owner asked me what I was going to do with it, could tell he wanted it. In a round about way I basically told him to f@ck off it's not going anywhere. Haha
Be careful of the goddamn breaking and steering system because that'll be very bad if you lose your your motor because I couldn't steer it and I couldn't couldn't break when my motor went out
West Coast Mirrors are excellent for towing! Hope the dually does well for you You'll enjoy the 454 BIG BLOCK, haha image a 350..not. More Videos Please!

5th wheel sled puller, nice!! Time to get the new trailer.
3 feet per gallon!
Dude, that truck is in mint shape man. Good find!
I don't know about mint, but it's cool!
you could get the 350 in the 3500 as well as the 454 and 6.5 detroit.
Definitely want to see more videos of you working on this beast
Anytime I do something big, I'll do an update!
The 454 is nice, but the 8.1 liter is the shizzle!!!

Lucky!!! I been looking for a K2500/3500 but its like finding a specific needle in a pile of needles.
My dad's 1990 Silverado was a beauty. Minus the heinous gas milage.
Oh yeah. High score for sure.
My parents had an extended cab truck like that. No 3nd door. It was a '94 I think. Plus it was a standard transmission too.
I grew up with that style also! Memories!!
Cool!

My LB7 was wicked on fuel compared to any of my other Duramaxs
Why didnt you fix the 1995?
Prime truck for a 12 valve swap
24 valve*
That’s what I was thinking too 🤔
Stop making plans for my truck 😆
@@syxxes the 454 is just right for your truck! Excellent Rig you have.
@@SLEDZ15412v easier to work on
Beautiful old truck. Hard to find one in good condition. Did my driving test on a mid 90s of that body style. Really like those old trucks.
Yeah, those trucks are sweet!
Ash trays in the doors . classic .
Shaun is gonna love it!
Any more videos of the 454 dually??
I got a 93 Chev 4x4 crew cab and I love it. Nice rigs

It’s the cigarette ashtray in the door for me
cool truck there i been working on my 3500 putting in a LS and my k1500 putt in a 454 it had a 350
I need to no what can cause the back brakes to lockup n the 93 dually
I have a '92 454 dually trying to figure out what to do

Yeah I was thinkin' deck on it too. That's why I didn't really care what the box looked like.
@@syxxes if your going to build one you should do a vlog like the trailer build. That would be interesting content to watch for sure.

Yeah, it's gonna love the fuel stations!
I love gmt400s too but why get rid of a duramax for one?
I'm over owning a diesel. Owned 3.
@@syxxes ive definitely felt that way about mine before.
Look sweet with a sled deck. Nice Truck👍👍👍
Gonna do some lookin for a sled deck, or maybe, a flat deck!
I have a fancy diesel too, but drive my 93 gmc daily
About time we got a video.. 😂😂
Nice truck. Not sure if you have driven a dully in the snow. Get ready for the butt wiggle. Your rear tires will dance in and out of the tracks your front tires make. Still a nice truck.
Well, the tires are new, so it's already better than my old truck. lol
So what is this truck in single cab, single rear wheel worth?
It was 99 they changed over. I have a 99 gmc c3500 and i love it so much. It was a dump but It rotted so I put a flat body on it. Got her for 2gs and it’s only got 70k on it.
GM continued that old body style until 2002 for the C3500HD Cab & Chassis trucks.
I hear ya on the 4 door must have. I own a 04 GMC 1/2 4x4 with the stupid third doors. They are a pain in the arse...never again
Yeah! Once ya have them once, going back sucks. Even if you think it won't!

Oh I didn't buy it for the fuel milage. xD
3500 came in srw or drw in long bed only in crew cab form. 2500 only came with short bed in crew cab form.
Great video. As always.
duramax got stolen too many times?
Thieves love to steal them!
They attempted to steal mine as well
Well, it never left the driveway at least.
Oh fuck. Those things are so gutless. Good ole 200hp (if that) 454.
260 hp iirc. It was the 400+ ft lbs from idle to redline that made them feel stout.
@@leftyeh6495 eh. No.
the tbi ones made 230 hp and 385 ft lbs this it vortec with multi port it made 290 and 410 ft lbs. 96 up will be a vortec.
@@jeffreyrigged ☝️ Correct! This is THE LAST of the Vortec 454s. Lots can be done to wake them up as well.
So thats 124,000 miles for us americans lol. Yeah she's low on miles thats for sure. Great looking truck bro
Just gotta get the body stuff in order!
I own a 99 3500, the guy that sold it too me told me half I'd 99 was square 98 and the rest of the year was the new 99 curved body
Well he would be incorrect.
@@user-wj9wq7mk4h I've seen 99s with the curved front end

That was my first truck! A white one!
so how much did you pay for it?
I have a 1997 gmc 3500 crew cab single wheel
In 2000 every 3500 was old body, 1500 and 2500 were new.
My truck almost identical
Be careful of the goddamn breaking and steering system because that'll be very bad if you lose your your motor because I couldn't steer it and I couldn't couldn't break when my motor went out
Never. Sell. That. Truck ..
I'm thinkin a deck!
