Baker's Edge Pan Review: $55 for More Chewy Edges?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 май 2024
- Today I'm testing out the Baker's Edge brownie pan, which supposedly adds 2-3 chewy edges to each brownie. I paid $55 for it on Amazon, although the price seems to fluctuate wildly there.

I'm with Altron Brown on this one. If you want more brown crispy edges just use a muffin tin.
Makes sense
Came to the comment section to say this, LOL
I've tried it, it's not the same. The round shape does not get as crispy or chewy as the square shapes, they come out more like muffins than brownies. Also you can't choose the size of your piece.
So just make muffins instead of brownies?
Would have never thought of that! Thanks
I must be abnormal but I like the middle pieces that are all ooey gooey with no crisp edges.
The drips and drops at the top of the walls are best , crispy candy
@@MerlinTheGreat-op3lz Can’t argue with you there.
You're not a-b normal, just have different tastes. How about a Sicilian pizza? I get the corners you get the middle pieces? Everyone's happy.
ME TOO! We have one of these pans and everybody likes them but me. I prefer no edges!
@@bikeny Deal!
for $55, someone from their company better come make the brownies for me lol
Don't worry. With decent gadgets like this cheaper knock offs will flood in no time ..but I still wouldn't lol. Cuz my pans are good enough for me

3:30 "just for edgeucational purposes". :D
yeah he WHIFFED on that
lol
Talk about taking one for the team. Poor guy, he couldn't even share them with Bailey (chocolate and dogs, iirc). He could freeze them, well, the 2nd batch would be worth saving.
Grade-A certified dad joke right there.
I came here for this 😂
I use mini loaf pans the ones you cook individual cornbreads in , etc, since theyre already in my kitchen cabinet, and work great, and dont cost stupid money.
Bailey's face while wagging is such a mood lol. She's adorable.
Paying $55.00 in the U.S. is cheaper than it is here in Canada. That same pan goes for $90.63 in the Great White North. I think We'll just stick to the old cake pan.
Thats crazy. I bought mine a few years ago and it was $25 US. Totally worth it for that price, I've used it TONS
Yeah, its crazy. I think twice before buying anything I don't need, especially if it's so expensive and I already have something at home that can do the same job.
I thought over $50 was nuts but wow that is insane.
90? TF???
@@schattenlaufer2191 yeah, our dollar is worth less, plus having to ship it here and customs costs also adds up.
To me the edges are hard and dry. It's the inner brownies that are moist and chewy.
I agree
Exactly. Who wants hard, crusty brownies?
The thing is, if everything is edges, you can shorten the baking time so that the edges are how you like it, and there isn't any center to be wildly undercooked.
They'll still be slightly crispy, but "hard and dry" means they got overcooked. Even with a normal pan, that shouldn't happen unless you're pulling it out of the oven too late. The toothpick/knife should *not* come out clean, if it does, you overbaked it by a lot. Even after resting (and carry-over cooking) it shouldn't be clean.
$55 for a piece of stamped metal. Worth $5. Oh, they included a spatula. $6.
Not going to disagree that the price is a little much, but it's worth mentioning it's not just a cheap stamped steel pan. it's 1.13kg cast aluminum with a non stick coating. I'd pay $20-$30 without complaining.
@@BriBCGthis!
@@BriBCGaluminum isn't that expensive, and a different manufacturing technique isn't going to hike up the price. Non-stick is also not that expensive. But yeah, $20 for that pan would be fair. The spatula is only there because a standard one won't fit. $30 is a steep price, but it's "as seen on TV". $55 is wildly high.
@@LibertyMonk Those things still make the pan cost 2-3x what a thin stamped steel pan would to make. The point is appears to be a quality pan, not cheap garbage and certainly worth more than the $5 OP suggested.
Got mine at Goodwill.
Bought mine 2 years ago from Amazon for $40. I use it all the time when I make brownies; it works great. Some folks use it to make lasagna and even Detroit style pizza with multiple toppings in each row (like one row pepperoni, another sausages, the others just cheese).
i would have used a large measuring cup to pour it in there the mess all over the top of the pan would drive me crazy lol 😂 do also think this pan would be great for meatloaf
It was fun to pick that mess off after it was done. And yeah it would be good for meatloaf, too!
I definitely agree. All the crap on the pan edges would set my OCD off.
@@sharimullinax3206 just because something irritates you does not mean it is ocd. nor is obsessive compulsive disorder some cute quirk to have, it's a serious medical condition
@@CatacombsBC Yes, OCD can be a serious medical condition, but it can also be a much lighter disorder that isn't as problematic. A lot of people suffer from light cases of ocd to some degree or another, and it can still cause problems or mental instability issues even in light cases, depending on how well people are able to control themselves or how well they can handle being unable to do anything about it.
People do use the term a bit too frequently, but that also doesn't mean that people are wrong to use it in light cases where they have trouble controlling themselves. As with most mental disorders it's not just "you either have it and it's severe or you don't have it" as you seem to be implying.
I think you should have used the same brownie mix in a regular rectangular pan and asked your family which brownie they preferred.
I liked the "edge-ucational" part in particular. 😂
Whenever my dogs are begging for chocolate, I started singing Possum Kingdom by the Toadies. Do you wanna diiiiieeee? 😂 Loved the cleaning montage ❤

Agreed
@@wesman6445 me too!
I so agree
As a kid I didnt like the edge pieces as much. As an adult, they are the first ones I go for.
I want to make some meatloaf in that pan. Yum.
THAT sounds great!!!
Think I got one of those pans, albeit maybe not as heavy, about 20-30 years ago from a Carol Wright catalog. Paid maybe $4 dollars or less. Gave it away to someone who made more brownies than I. But sure enjoyed watching you make brownies!
Dang, I remember that catalog. Forgot all about them...thanks for the memory. ☺
@@ShirlBussmanthe catalog is still available thru their own website and Amazon. Had to Google.
@@marylhere I'm surprised. I didn't even remember her name until @SueFine mentioned it. Thank you I will check it out.
3:30 The sacrifices you make for us James!
🤦♀️Great! Now I want a brownie with milk 🥛. I can't even remember the last time I had a brownie 🤔.
This would slap for a Detroit style pizza!
Surprisingly some dude on that shitty website Reddit did use it for a all edge Detroit style pie.
Just thinking the same. With the cost of pizza today, use it 2 or 3 times and it’s paid for itself.
$55 is too much for that pan
Agree.
But… but… EDGES.
It could be a maze for a simple minded mouse.😂🐭
A maze that all mice everywhere would absolutely KILL to run!
That would be a good pan for larger dog breeds that eat so fast they throw up
Maybe if you make brownies often.... but i don't know anyone that would make brownies often enough to make the cost if this pan worth it.
Just bake brownies in a cast iron pan. Best chewy brownies I’ve ever eaten. We put a thick layer of walnuts in the bottom and pour batter on top. Ghirardelli is our favorite brand brownie mix.
We've had one for years and we LOVE it. It's made many box mixes of brownies.
❤thanks James, great review!
It's a waste of money. Use nonstick muffin tins sprayed with cooking spray. A round brownie is ALL edge. I use mini muffin tins and put the batter into a ziploc back, cut off a corner and use it to easily pipe the batter into each mini muffin cup. DIY brownie bites and the bake time is wayyyyy shorter.
We've owned one of these pans for years. It was quite a bit cheaper then. It will last a LONG time and is well worth it. The surface is still the same non-stick as when we bought it.
What a wonderful video nice to see products work so well and how awesome that you shared both making a boxed mix and a recipe version in the brownie pan love your content
I bought one years ago and it didn’t cost that much. Oh well I still love it, but make sure your guests don’t use a real knife.
I always use a plastic knife to cut brownies. Much better cuts.
Can’t wait to try mine! Saw one today at an estate sale…. I didn’t know what it was but it looked interesting so I brought it home and googled what it was. I paid six dollars for it!
Great video. Thank you for testing out this device.
We have one easy to use and we love it
I think I would just double up on the box mix... 🤔😍😋
If you do that don't forget you'd need to increase the bake time.
First saw this at the late, lamented ThinkGeek site, probably before it turned up anywhere else. I was never that motivated to get it though, not being a baker of any nature. Coolest place I ever saw it was in the first season of "The Expanse," where one of the crew used it to make space lasagna, i.e. largely artificial, but looks cooler because of the pan!
Thanks for "The Expanse" comment. Alex's Mariner Valley lasagna recipe was pretty questionable. 🤮
Oh yay!!!! Glad to see you!
I always go for the center piece. Edges are always too dry
I would like to try and bake brownies sometimes, they looks so nice!
I love edging my brownies! I'll have to get this pan.
I got lucky and found one of those in a local thrift store here in Vegas. I think I paid about $3.00 for it. Made many brownies in it, and even tried lasagna once (not worth the effort to do it again, but it wasn't bad).
55$! When I got it on amazon it was 18$
I was thinking of getting one of these because I love the edges. But $55 seems very steep. Someone below suggested just using a muffin tin which is genius because it would be nothing but crispy edges.
Was just binging your old videos lol
I am obsessed with these brownie/cookies called Brownie Brittle. If you love crispy brownie edges, you'll love them!
Nothing worse than a crispy edge.
It’s good but over priced. I find them at Ollie’s all the time.
Costco gets them every once in a while and often do a BOGO when they do - such a great deal.
@@naughtysauce4323 To each their own I'm suppose. 😊
@@naughtysauce4323agreed ty
I would volunteer helping eating up those brownies. 😋 But sadly I'm like 1k miles away from Vagus. Very neat pan though, and honestly the price doesn't seem to crazy for the heavy build quality. Thanks for the review, and the difficulty you endure having to taste test all the various baked goods you end up with. 😋👍
Dang! Now I want some brownies...
I like raw middle pieces. Edge pieces are too tough and burnt for my taste.
This pan seems to do what it claims to. Thanks for the video.
This reminds of the Brooklyn brownie thing you reviewed a long time ago. Not sure if you still use that or have that?
why dont ppl just use a muffin pan? its all edge for each piece
Because you are limited on size if you use a muffin pan , with a brownie pan you can make them in whatever size you want.
I don't know about brownies but that pan is perfect for an old Kamal family Lasagna recipe, a staple of the Mariner Valley.
Granted, they had to improvise a little without any real cheese or wheat or tomatoes or anything....
These pans can also be used to make Detroit Style pizza that really maximizes that delicious outer crust.
I’ve had one of these for years, works great with a family size box mix. 22 minutes to delicious chewy edge brownies
The point of this product is to make sure all the pieces of brownies have the outer crust. This one is not for the people who like the center pieces.
I love it since I prefer the edges BUT that price makes it a no-go.
Not sure if I should get 1, but it seems to work. Maybe this is another 'it works but do you really need it'.
I had this on my wedding registry 13 years ago and nobody got it for us. Either way, can’t say I’ve baked enough brownies to justify that cost
a tin to make sure nobody gets the perfect center brownie 😭😭😭
.. I agree I like the middle one's also ..
I only like the edges 😊 hate the middle piece guess I’m weird
When everything is edges, everything is middle too. If you don't like edges, you're overcooking your brownies. If you don't like center, you're undercooking them.
Adjust your cook times. Pull it out of the oven when the edges are done but the middle isn't quite there yet, then let it rest. Resting will let the middle keep cooking without the edges getting too dehydrated.
They do look yummy. Great job.
i was telling my wife about that pan and got something similar but just squares like a muffin tin but it was 5 dollars from the dollar store i was impressed
I was irrationally irritated that he didn't wipe off the excess browny mixture before throwing it in the oven.
Meds can help with that lol
A baker never would've put the pan in like that. It's not irrational.
@@kyronnewbury IN THIS ECONOMY!? :(
I’m an edge lover
i too love to edge
Ingenious!
Wow, RUclips recommended your Brooklyn Copper Brownie Pan after this and I can't believe that was 7 years ago!
This would be amazing for lasagna.
that looks so good
My mom got one as a present 15-20 years ago, so I couldn't tell you the price was, and always use when I make brownies.
We've got one and like it. Haven't tried their recipes, just using boxed mixes. I wish that instead of just "good" there had been a comparison of the chewiness of their recipe vs the boxed mix, because I really want more chewiness.
Perfect for my red kibble recipe
No it's for Mariner Valley lasagna 😅
I was wondering if you would look into reviewing a coffee machine known as the Bruvi. I've seen mixed reviews and would love your opinion.
I usually make brownies in a 9X13 pan and cut off the outside 1/2" all around the pan (scraps). I prefer the soft and gooey middle so this pan is not for me. Especially at that price $$$ !
I wanted this so bad when it came out. Spotted one at a thrift store for $12 and got it. It's the only pan we bake brownies in now!
Now they need find a way to make a pan for us that only like the middle and no edges...
A frying pan
"Edge-ucational" 😂😂😂
I really love to watch bakers edge as much as they can
I'd say you covered the spread. 😄 It did look a tad lengthy, but not difficult to spread, it would just take a while longer than rectangular pan.
This is proof that edge pieces are better. They don't make special pans where every piece is a middle piece.
Hey, I bought one of these things years and years ago. It reminds me, I ought to sell it or give it away or just plain throw it out. I mean, it does its job swimmingly... it's just that my favorite recipes are for 9×9 pans and I realized I don't really care that much about chewy edges.
Am I the only one who prefers the center of the brownie over the hard edges? I mean I love a fudgy brownie as much as the next but I want the moist portion not the crust, lol.
All I got from this video was that Brownies look amazing. Great pan btw.
They used this pan in the SyFy series, now Amazon series the Expanse, they baked lasagna in it. So it will still exist in 200 years. 😀
No, no, no, no, no! I don't want crispy edges! I looove the ooey gooey center pieces of the brownies. Edges are just hard and detract from the joy that is a center piece you could eat with a spoon.
Thanks for the review, but I'm gonna pass.
Oh my goodness! Yes! I LOVE brownie edges!!!!
There's a half-priced used one on eBay!
When did it get so expensive? I bought one for about 20 bucks. Even at that price it was kind of a waste.
Bought one for $10 at big lots a good bit ago. Mine has that bs copper nonstick coating.
THIS LOOKS LIKES A GOOD PRODUCT.GOOD VID
I think putting the batter into a large pastry bag would allow you a more even coverage and a lot less mess.
dangit, was going to make black bean brownies today. I'll do it tomorrow.
Would it be easier to use a piping bag to put the batter in the pan ?!?
I prefer the Ghirardelli box brownie mix. It is sweet, but the chocolate is so good.
It's also recommended by ATK.
Okay it cooked the brownie well which is its job so well done to the pan but what is the advantage of using this over a normal tin, i mean i know you get more edges but I’m not sure thats worth the $$$
would it work with cotton balls and glitter?
I feel like you could throw a couple silicone inserts into a regular pan and get the same outcome.
i feel like this product would work better as inserts you could put into a pan you already have, that price is so not it for something that only does 1 or 2 things and takes up as much space as every other pan
I like the center. With no crust. 🙂
I think it might be easier to pipe the batter in for this type of pan
I love the soft brownie not the edges maybe I'd like this?
