This is a pretty common thing in Asia where a lot of students will have one the same way people out west will typically have a hotplate for their dorm rooms, and it's mostly only really for soup or instant noodles, oatmeals or congee, and reheating leftovers with a splash of water on the bottom before you toss in the food.

These are great for soups, I had an old 1 i picked up at an asian grocery store years ago during college. Easy way to cook top ramen plus you can boil an egg to make it 'fancy'

Cleans up fast and makes a better steak than my air fryer when I don't want the extra mess usiing a cast iron skillet. I like a rare steak. I put on high to sear both sides and I'm good. Sautes perogi's and chicken breasts nicely. I bought it at $29.99 before price went up.

I received an electric skillet as a wedding gift years ago. I loved it and it worked great. It eventually stopped working and I replaced it with an electric griddle. I LOVE my griddle!
I’ve had an electric kettle for more than 30 years and can do what this mini pot can and so much more! And it’s still available, now in 2 sizes - the one I have and a much larger one! My stove, microwave died over a year ago and I’ve had to learn a different way of cooking. I’d like to see James do reviews on Induction portables. I’ve been using mine for quite some time (even before the death of most of my kitchen) and I prefer it to a regular electric stove (can’t get gas).
When we first moved into the house, it had a glass-top electric. Absolutely hated that cooktop. We replaced it with an induction cooktop (not a portable) and that solved my problem. While I miss my gas stove in my old house, induction is more environmentally friendly and it works quite well. I've heard that some of the induction portables are good, others are underpowered.
I bought the yabano multi function pot off Amazon for 29.99 but had a 5 off coupon. It's got 2 settings high and low. This works awesome. Boils water super fast and will recommend it to anyone in need of this type of appliance.
Anyone that has this or a pot like this, just put the egg in as it is preheating. It would cook as it gets to temp. Or make the breakfast meat then turn it off and cook it as it is cooling off.
Yes! This was my exact thought. Eggs cook pretty quickly so there should be plenty of time to cook it during the cool down period (assuming the preheat goes too quickly)
Same I have an electric coil top single burner and it gets hot. Like I put it to 2 and it almost burns my eggs. so as soon as it starts heating throw your egg in if you wait until it's fully preheated you're gonna burn the eggs.

My thought was to get it up to heat, turn it off and then drop an egg in when it hits around 300, then let it cook for a minute until it starts to cool, turn it on again when it hits 200 and get it back up to 300. Then it should be good to flip, you can trim it back off, let it cool to 200 as it cooks, then turn it back on to get it to 300 and by that point it should be done and ready. Key is just to back off and turn it off when it gets too hot, turn it back on when the food has absorbed the heat during cooking. A little finicky obviously, but if this is all you have to cook on, you can definitely manage it
If you want something that doesn’t require a kitchen well look no further than the Ninja Foodie Possible Cooker Pro. I have one in my semi and I absolutely love it. You’ll have a learning curve figuring out which settings and temperature but once you do, it’s really good to have.
Sure, for the stuff he was cooking. Everything he cooked in the electric *saucepan* were things a person would cook in a skillet. Zero were things a person would cook in a saucepan.
imo induction plates are terrible, not only are they extremely loud, they are not AT ALL even in temperature. They just have two states, off or high power. The settings from 1 to 20 that you may have are just controlling how often it turns off. That casuses a lot of food to burn or water to boil over.
I got the larger version of this, by Dezin as well. It's more of a pot shape and came with a steaming basket and is stainless steel, instead of non-stick. The settngs are 200W and 600W. 600W is perfect for getting water going for noodles, then turn down to 200W once you add them. Plus the steaming basket is perfect for frozen vegetables for ramen (my main use scenario of the pot). The main reason I went with this one is it's very large size, 1.6L, it's perfect for two packs of ramen and an egg added to the water.
I have one like this that I just use to eat hot pot in front of the TV. Never considered using it for anything like what's in the video. I think the temperature settings are mainly for boiling things rather than regular cooking.
Imagine a square pan, elevated on 2-3inch legs. It has a clear lid. The controller plugs into the pan and is adjustable. Like starting really not much more then warm and goes up to 400-500 degrees.
I own this cooking pot. I’m perfectly happy with it. I bought it to take on road trips, and for occasional use at home. I don’t ask nor expect spectacular performance. It does what I need it to do. 🤷♀️
Hense the poached egg insert...I use it all the time...OR I use the pot to boil water and place another nonstick fry pan on top and cook my fried eggs....great for camping with a solar battery generator for sure! It is hard to find a low watt cooking stove for camping and/or emergencies....this pot works great if you get creative, lol You can not beat the 250-300 watt cooker for the price really! Similar cookers are 1000 watts. Thanks for the detailed video!
For electric gadgets, do hope you are using a GFCI outlet or cord adapter. Some of the sketchy things you've showcased need those. Thanks for your reviews, as they are very honest and thorough (though nobody is as thorough as Project Farm) and have made solid purchases based upon your experiences. Thank you again for the good work.
Love mine, but I rarely use it for cooking steaks or burgers, i used it for cooking ramen, or heating soup, sometimes i used it for sautéing some veggies and sausages.
I have an electric skillet that I've used for over a decade to fry meats and make things like Salisbury Steak and gravy, pancakes and sausage,etc.. Wouldn't trade it for 10 of those things.
All here are correct. I have a Presto electric skillet that I got for $20, they are $35 now, but they are ceramic which is good. It can heat to any temp, is larger and more convenient than this pot. Also, I understand the lower end brands have more of that bad chemical that comes off the Teflon when heated. Glad to see Presto went to ceramic. I'm sure in a head to head here on the channel, the skillets would kill this pot any day of the week.
The “C” shape seen on the bottom of the pan may be from the heating element, with the “opening” being the ends of the positive and negative electric connections for it.
For eggs, try preheating it up to the highest setting then turn it off add the egg and cook only with the residual heat while unit is off. If it’s still too hot, preheat with the lowest setting, then turn it off and try. Just a thought.
I absolutely love your videos I'm building my life from scratch slowly and some of these gadgets that you show and review are very helpful for me I'm very excited for the future I know there will be hurdles coming my way but I won't let them stop me from reaching my goals
I have two of these pots and I love them. It appeared as if you inttentionally made the eggs fail. I cook eggs in my pots all the time and they do a good job. I prefer soft scrambled eggs or French scrambled eggs. To prevent overheating the eggs, the heat must be stopped early then allow the eggs to finish cooking on the residual heat. Fried eggs are not a problem for me, but I use a bit of non-stick spray. I stop the heat early, slide my eggs around and my eggs slide out easily. Like any new cooking device, there's a learning curve. I ruined multiple eggs and other foods on my induction stove when I started using it. I also overcooked my eggs in this pan the first several times that I used it. Neither of my pots will pop popcorn well but I I like unpopped kernels so I have no big complaints.
Could you set it to the low temp but turn it off before it gets to full temp? Sometimes on a stovetop, I turn off the electric burner, which still has heat, and the cast iron skillet still has enough heat to cook eggs eggs at a lower temperature. Yes a bit more hands-on if you have to turn it on and off to maintain temperature..
Usually I like your reviews but this time I didnt feel like it was a proper test because it's an electric pot not pan yet all you tested were stuff typically done in a pan. You didnt try making anything that's typically done in a pot like soups, stews, pasta, etc.
It's so hot because it was designed for one specific Asian dish called "hot pot". It's a boiling hot broth that the family dips various things into including thinly sliced raw steak, it has to be lava hot to cook it and other raw ingredients enough.
Yes, I have used it over 2+ years. Easy and quick mac & cheese. We use it almost daily. Scrambled eggs do well with a bit of butter. Definitely would order another and probably will. Low wattage also for my solar battery use.
Did I click this video because Bailey was in the thumbnail?? YES I did! Then I read the title. This pan seems so small... I was thinking it would be good to make Ramen in. Like for a dorm room. BUt I can see that being a fire hazard because it is so hot.

this thing is a beast. its perfect for an office/dorm. it can cook anything perfectly as long as you aren't stupid. watch your food and keep stirring it so it doesnt burn
In 1978 bought a 1000 watt hotplate for my dorm room, could boil water, pop popcorn or cook anything with it. Since it was American made 😮, still working perfectly 45 years later.
Always sear the fat cap of your steak first as it renders some of it out and lets you cook the meat in the steak's fat. Sometimes you don't even need to add oil if the fat renders well enough. Also makes the fat cap nice and crisp which is more tasty.
I always wanted to get this but wasn’t sure if it worked well or not. That’s the color I want too actually. I have a compact size Apartment stove in my place, and it would give me an extra place when cooking in many pans at once. But I want one that works well.
I purchase one of these about a month ago. While it is not outstanding, it does a fair enough job for what I wanted it for - electric cooking while off-grid in my camper.
I have a pot like this and I freaking love it! It heats quickly, nothing sticks, easy to clean. I've used it everyday since Christmas and it still looks brand new! I think I paid $34.99 for it. Oh, and if you like eggs over easy - this pan is for you.
The best appliance you can get for dorm/ apartment cooking is an induction cooker. This is for fire safety, the amount of power it provides, simmer/ slow cooker control, and versatility of using several types of pots/ kettles with a single device. Nothing else comes close. The only reason you'd use a hotplate when induction cookers exist is it is more lightweight if you need a device you can throw in your suitcase. Furthermore if space is a premium, get a microwave with air fryer/ convection features.
I'm a truck driver and got this 2 years ago. It feels cheap and flimsy, but after years of regular use, it still holds up. Not bad for a $20 (at the time) electric pot.
I have one of these. I cook eggs in it by turning it on, place the egg in right away, then let it cook as it heats up. I can make fried, sunny side up and over easy. Once you have it figured out, it works very well.

I have this exact pot at work, love it. Only things I would change is more than two settings, maybe a potentiometer.
Thanks for your honest reviews!
I have a non stick Oster electric skillet, and I agree I would not trade it for 20 of these things if they where given too me for free.
I have an Oster stainless steel electric skillet, which is 30 yrs old and works like a champ. Would not trade it if you gave me something for free!
I'm sure in a head to head here on the channel, the skillets would kill this pot any day of the week.
you can't make any soups with the Skillets. and cleaning all the splatters from using the skillets is terrible.
@@candyman111881 I have an instant pot and a crockpot but I love my old skillet.
I’m a truck driver, and got one of these to heat up soup. Also have the steamer basket. It actually does pretty good as a steamer.
The “C” shape seen on the bottom of the pan may be from the heating element, with the “opening” being the ends of the positive and negative electric connections for it.
No shit the C shape is from the heating element lol what else would it be from...
It's AC, it doesn't have negative or positive electric connections.
I got one a year ago and it is terrific for ramen, stews, soups, and especially hot pots for 2.
If the non-stick surface contains Teflon, over 500 degrees is too hot! Teflon starts breaking down then.
Yep, and the Teflon steam is insanely dangerus⚡
Would have been perfect to have a variable knob like most electric skillets do.
Exactly!
Usually I like your reviews but this time I didnt feel like it was a proper test because it's an electric pot not pan yet all you tested were stuff typically done in a pan. You didnt try making anything that's typically done in a pot like soups, stews, pasta, etc.
This is what I use to cook in my semi - truck when I'm working O.T.R... a huge life saver ❤
This seems like a smaller, rounder version of my old electric skillet.
Bailey smelling the smells and licking her chops. "Can I has some too?"
I like that cowboy guy character... lol
Did I click this video because Bailey was in the thumbnail?? YES I did! Then I read the title. This pan seems so small... I was thinking it would be good to make Ramen in. Like for a dorm room. BUt I can see that being a fire hazard because it is so hot.
The edits in this video were awesome. Continue doing this please.
lol To be honest I did question how you mentioned the affiliate marketing and said,”Not exactly the most unbiased review”, but we’re doing the same thing. However, this review is pretty thorough and honest. It’m probably not going to find anyone using a thermal camera and stuff like that unless I do it myself. Good review.
12:21 Bailey, poor baby… Isn’t daddy giving you ANYTHING?!? 😂❤😂 She is so sweet! Love her❤ I remember when she was FULL of zoomies and her sister wasn’t. She is still interested in things. Can’t believe her graying muzzle, she is still such a beautiful pup!!❤I have a grand dog who is a golden/lab mix and her name is also Bailey ❤ Thanks for sharing this product and the RockPals [am going to check into, on Amazon of course 😂] keep up the great work!! from Ohio
My daughter loves ours. She uses it for 2 am ramen or other soups. It works really well.
Very thorough review! I think this would be great for traveling.
this thing is a beast. its perfect for an office/dorm. it can cook anything perfectly as long as you aren't stupid. watch your food and keep stirring it so it doesnt burn
When you said wait a minute, I was hoping for Bailey, lol. Glad she came in later, always a joy to see her!!
Always a great video when Bailey shows up
In 1978 bought a 1000 watt hotplate for my dorm room, could boil water, pop popcorn or cook anything with it. Since it was American made 😮, still working perfectly 45 years later.
It is so easy to wrap the coil around the bottom for an even heat distribution!
REALLY good electric cooker review. Need more of these kinds of reviews. 👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I purchase one of these about a month ago. While it is not outstanding, it does a fair enough job for what I wanted it for - electric cooking while off-grid in my camper.
What foods cook best using this in your experience?
I have a pot like this and I freaking love it! It heats quickly, nothing sticks, easy to clean. I've used it everyday since Christmas and it still looks brand new! I think I paid $34.99 for it. Oh, and if you like eggs over easy - this pan is for you.
Your coyotes in Vegas are much cuter than we have in Arizona, LOL!!! Bailey always steals the show.
That intro was a rollercoaster of emotions. A whole cinematic experience.
Poor doggo needs her share...c'mon!
I think Bailey earned a treat for how well she guarded that steak
I hooked an inverter up to my car and I've used this to cook while camping, It's pretty sweet with low wattage requirements.
I always go to the review sites that pertain to the type of product I want to learn more about. E.g. Tom's Guide for computing, etc
I love the Design electric saute pan/pot. Perfect in studio apts, car camping, motels, etc...
Love cooking my tilapia in it. Can cook bacon, ham, saute veggies, mmm
I'm a truck driver and got this 2 years ago. It feels cheap and flimsy, but after years of regular use, it still holds up. Not bad for a $20 (at the time) electric pot.
I have a really old set of pans that work like these do, the stay in the camp and I love them
I have one of these. I cook eggs in it by turning it on, place the egg in right away, then let it cook as it heats up. I can make fried, sunny side up and over easy. Once you have it figured out, it works very well.
Yeap, i do it that way too
Bailey cameos are always my favorite!
Loved the extra spin on the review with backyard bites I laughed so hard. Glad the wildlife didn’t attack cowboy jimmy. 😂😂😂
We have an electric skillet we use camping. It’s a $20 mainstays but it has been flawless, not sure about this pot tho
As someone who doesn't have access to a kitchen, I love my hot pot (TopWit with steamer from Amazon) and electric skillet (Presto).
Love your videos. Not trusting these non stick pans. What's the non stick surface made from.
@@robertwarner-ev7wp poison I agree, but I don't think the Chinese are the only ones manufacturing it.
I love watching your videos they’ve all been really enjoyable and you explain your thoughts on the products really well and thoroughly! The grilled cheese you made looks fantastic and a beautiful cheese pull! Can’t wait to see more videos on your channel you film your videos so fantastically and have excellent editing
Thank you. I really love your reviews 😍
I would think it would work well in an office kitchen (that typically only have a microwave available) as a way to get more fancy.
Some of the best food I grew up with was done in an electric fryer.
I have one and I like it. I wish it had rubber feet and more temp choices. I highly recommend for travel or camping.
