Because I know Amalie likes to cook , here’s a good marinade for carne de porco à Alentejana: White wine, garlic, laurel and massa de pimentão (you’ll find jars of this in the supermarket) which is a paste made from red bellpeppers and salt, very traditional seasoning in the south of the country
You chose an opening song that symbolizes the greatest Portuguese male singer of all times named Zeca Afonso. He and Amália Rodrigues, the great queen of Fado, represent the Portuguese soul and its remarkable voice. Thank you and congratulations on that. You have already demonstrated that you are in fact very much in tune with the Portuguese people, places, customs and soul. It is also very gratifying to see how you are delighted with Lusitanian cuisine. Continue to enjoy my beautiful and exemplary country, enjoying good experiences and delicious moments. The sobriety of your choices is a proof of gratitude and honor. Greetings from Porto, Portugal.
Do you know the history behind of "Carne de Porco à Alentejana"? Before tourism, it was very difficult to travel to Algarve, due to the mountains that separate it from Alentejo and bad dirt roads, so it took a lot of time. Pigs in Algarve were fed with fish flour, which gave the meat a very bad flavor. The clams were added to help mask that flavor. In times of celebration, people would dare the trouble of traveling out of Algarve to buy pig flesh from Alentejo, which was fed with acorn, and the taste was very good. It was a luxury to have Alentejo pig meat, and that was what gave the name to the plate. The clams remained as an extra.
Excellent video as usual... and excellent song choice.... good one guys!! My husband is quite a good cook and his favorite dish to cook is carne de porco à alentejana. He marinates de meat with homemade bell pepper paste.
its called “Os índios da meia praia” from José Afonso aka Zeca Afonso. This artist really has a very special place in every Portuguese heart, its a long story but worth it if you have the time and care about it. Enjoy 😉
What's up ma boys... when do you visit Viana do Castelo? Ponte de Lima (my town), Ponte da Barca, Arcos de Valdevez, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Vila Praia de Âncora, Valença, Gerês, Sistelo... so many beautiful places in the north, and of course good food.

Thank you for showing Authentic Portuguese Food. My experience is your are right, when you stray away from major centres the food becomes more Authentic, they prepare food they would like to eat. Hi guys I enjoy watching your videos. Agree best food in Portugal is in the Algarve region. Next time you guys are filming in the Algarve try the restaurant called FIALHO. Excellent choice of dishes but my favourite is ARROZ DE TAMBORIL. Highly recommended and you will not be disappointed. If you like fish then another place I would personally recommend is VELA2 situated along Santa Margarida region. Oh by the way to both of you I like the choice of music on the background.
I’m Portuguese but live in Sydney Australia and I miss the food from Portugal so much. Compared to Australia all the food tastes much better in Portugal. I especially miss the seafood and potatoes. Please make sure you try and get to Viana Do Castelo when you can during festa in August if they go ahead this year. Amazing time. Thanks for all the videos.
Love that you put ZECA AFONSO in the video. Very appropriate SONGS although I am not sure if you understand its meaning of it or its context..... do you know? Some of his songs make me cry.... Beautiful video as always and this one made me so envious!
Guys thank you so much the way you promoting the region were I came from Algarve is absolutely amazing. I 'm in UK and you guys went in my hometown Quarteira I could believe you went in Jacinto one of my favorite restaurant of all time I almost cry . Cataplana is a special thanks for the nostalgic minutes.
The next time you guys came in Algarve, you have to try the Tintol restaurant. It is between Faro and Olhão. It is known because of the grilled fish buffet. All you can eat, just grilled fish (dourada, peixe espada, salmão, lulas, chocos, sargo, perca, robalo, etc, etc,)... It is sooooo good.....
Obrigado a equipa de STAY CLASSY VLOG. Tivemos muito gosto em ter-los no nosso Restaurante Edmundo´s, mesmo que tenha sido logo após a nossa reabertura pós-confinamento por causa do Covid-19. Hey guys! There are a few famous ingredients from the Algarve. Obviously fish and seafood, almonds, figs and oranges. Those deserts you had, I'd say it's pretty algarvian.
The most delish food if found in the small villages if this interests you two...it's family ran where granny or wife cooks the meals. Local produce, fresh fish and game are welcome in many dishes. The best part is the price...👍👍👍@9:26 Amalie, you look stunning...A princess if I may👸👸👸😍
Great video and amazing dishes, but you still have several places and dishes to discouver in that area. From the "Percebes" from Vila do Bispo to the chicken from a village called Guia. It´s a simple piripiri chicken, but it´s so well made that they call it the "Frango à Guia" and it's known as the best place to eat piripiri chicken. It's so good that there are several restaurants, spread all over Portugal, that serve chicken as they do in the Guia village. If you ever go there, I recomend " O Teodósio". A bit expensive, but for a good reason. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the Zeca Afonso's music. It looks that you understand the lyrics because it was appropriate to the context. Talking about poor region food, Jimmy Oliver says that the best food is from the poorest part of south of Europe .
agreed... I lived in Sardinia, am from Coimbra... and the south does have the best food :) Czech Republic has amazing meat and sauces, but has fewer diversity
You have to do a second food tour in the Algarve. There are much more. In Silves, in Cacela Velha, in Olhão, you will find many more fantastic restaurants with amazing food.
What a beautiful work! Starting with Zeca Afonso is beautiful, but the song you chose, "os índios da meia praia" just gives goosebumps to any portuguese! Great choices once more. Just made me drooling (again)! And just a note, António is an aproved portuguese company for your food tours as he knows a lot about it! Cheers!
Next time you go to the Algarve, try the awesome Cataplana in the restaurant Aqui d'El Rei, in Faro. It's AMAZING! It's a tiny family restaurant, in the old town. ;)
Indeed the best restaurants in Algarve are in the interior. Last week i went to Porto to eat a Francesinha and Bacalhau á Braga. 25th i will travel to Caminha, near the border of Minho with Galiza in the end of Minho River
Being from the Algarve myself, I would say the second restaurant didn't look up to par with the other ones (and with the local food generally). But if you enjoyed it, that's great! I'd recommend that you try the "secretos de porco preto" directly in Alentejo, or at a fair where alentejanos sell it. The typical feijoada is the "feijoada de polvo" (octopus bean stew) and I hear it's the most delicious typical thing here. I hear, because I don't like octopus or beans!! haha
For epic food and location with great view try restaurane" O Paulo " it's on Arrifana beach Algarve , do it for dinner time and you will also catch the best sunset in Algarve , this place just litteraly on the top of the cliff , when we been there we ordered mix of see food on tray ,thats definitely was life experience !!!
