DeGarmo was part and parcel with Tate, they were a GREAT writing team, but also DeGarmo on his own. That includes the lyrics and composition of "I Will Remember". Great Guitarist!
Geoff Tate (pronounced "Jeff") and Chris DeGarmo were at the top of the mountain in their heyday. DeGarmo is criminally underrated as a guitarist and songwriter! For me, the standout song on this album is "Screaming in Digital"...it's like nothing else you have ever heard. This album seems so much tamer after all these years...it's hard to understand how groundbreaking it was in its day. Without "Rage for Order," there would never have been an "Operation: Mindcrime." God bless!!
If it hasn't already been mentioned, that guitar "solo" you were so impressed with in Walk in the Shadows was technically a duet (they have dual leads, sometimes they play different melodies, sometimes they mirror one another).
One of the greatest albums EVER. An absolute masterpiece from start to finish. So engaging and intense all the way through. The concept album of all concept albums. Between the Livecrime concert video and the studio album, done them literally hundreds of times🙌
Queensrÿche, they turned metal into art with this album. Killing Words and I Will Remember live on MTV Unplugged will make you appreciate his vocals even more.
How cool! I wasn't expecting you to get down with some Queensryche. Shortly after I arrived at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, in 1986, I heard a guy jamming this album and I had to go out and buy it immediately. Operation: Mindcrime is a masterpiece. Empire is a hit machine. But Rage For Order is still my favorite. Criminally underated in my book. Thank you, Nick N lex!
It makes me so happy to see someone finally listed to Queensryche tracks from other albums besides Mindcrime and Empire. All of their albums are awesome and the earlier ones usually get neglected. Thank you.
This is a brilliant album. Every track is sooo good. You are going to be blown away by this group. Stunning guitar solo's - superb bass and thunderous drums ...but ...it's Geoff Tates vocals that takes this group to another level.....& singing live this guy delivers his amazing vocal range to perfection.....Btw, Geoff is pronounced Jeff. No idea where it came from. So happy you are finally onto this brilliant band. I look forward to more. Great reactions thankyou..... - You do put me just in the mood for music I've not played in a while - Time to get this one off the shelf again. X
Queensryche is my favorite band (Dream Theater is ALSO my favorite band), and the Rage For Order lp is probably my favorite Ryche album. Thanks for the reaction. Peace!
Empire and Operation Mind Crime are both excellent albums to listen to. Geoff Tate is another one of those awesome vocalists! Also, there is an amazing acoustic version of I will remember you on youtube!
Queensryche is one of the best places to start if you're going to get into metal because it is very intellectual listen to the lyrics understand how it coalesces with the music the way the music changes revolves around the emotion in the song and that is why they call it progressive rock or metal
Hi guys!! This band is amazing !! especially the first 4 albums !! In the era dominated by glam metal bands, they broke stereotypes and laid the foundations for progressive metal !! Operation: Mindcrime is a masterpiece! And Geoff Tate an extraordinary singer! Keep analyzing more of them! greetings from Argentina!!
Great reaction Nick and Lex! Queensryche were one of my favourite bands in the 80's and their magnus opus for me was Operation Mindcrime. Another band/song to check out is Extreme - Everything Under the Sun (Lyric Video). This combines three songs that were on their 3 sides to every story album. Fantastic piece which runs the gamut in styles. You will really enjoy it.
I love Queensryche! Great job as usual guys. If you really want to hear the full range of Geoff Tate’s voice, you must listen to Take Hold Of The Flame.
Rage For Order is a watershed moment for the band and is unique in the catalog. The song, Walk In The Shadows to me is a love song for someone becoming and falling in love with the vampire who turned them. Then, I Will Remember is just a haunting metaphor for everyone who feels list in the world.
The Ryche ruled for a while. Nobody could touch them at their peak! They combined old school heavy metal like Maiden or Priest, especially with the guitar harmonies and high rang clear powerful vocals. Add prog with influences of Rush and Floyd. All songs have a good storyline, not just rhyming lines with mo content. You cant get any better than that! 🤘
Big Rush fan here, the Queensryche album 'Rage For Order' is my favorite album from any group. I hated it at first...but after about 3 listens (always apply the 3 listen rule before dismissing a song), it became my favorite. The subject matter was way ahead of its time and the production of the album were top tier. Also, Geoff Tate is the best 80's metal singer, or in the top 5 (give a listen to 'take hold of the flame', live in tokyo early 80's.). Their concept album 'Operation: Mindcrime' is a must listen, also one of the best concept albums of the 80's with a topic that is still relevant today.
OMG!! My very favorite 80's band and vocalist!! Rage is my 2nd favorite album. Operation Mindcrime is #1, but it is a concept album with a great story!! So so glad you have dipped into more QR. They are considered progressive metal. Loved your reaction and how much Lex enjoyed them. Makes me happy ❤❤❤
Great album and great tour! The I Will Remember acoustic solo is the first acoustic solo that I learned to play on my own...so that song holds a really special place for me ❤
There is so much to explore with this band. If you listen to their first album you’ll see a different side to them, which is pretty true for everything they did.
'The Warning' is an early Queensryche masterpiece album. Check it out when you get a chance. 'Take Hold Of The Flame' really showcases Geoff Tate's range.
QUEENSRYCHE!! My all time favorite band!! Also, JONI MITCHELL….my favorite female singer/artist of allllll time. Both artist are incredible and near and dear to my heart. So cool to see your reactions to each :)
Yay, Tony! That care package was amazing and I’m glad to hear this marathon. Thanks, mv! Great reaction, N&L! Hope you’re enjoying your vacay and birthday week! ✨🤪
Well this a surprise! I actually owned this album and 4 others of these guys! I had totally forgot about them for many years. I always respected their music and love tate! Thanks so much for reminding me of them! I need to start listening to them again! Lex im glad you really loved these songs! You seemed really excited and a little shocked at how much you liked them both! Thanks for this video! Love you guys! Hope you are enjoying your trip!
Such a great album, my favorites are probably Neue Regel and Chemical Youth. The music for Neue Regel is downright creepy, it’d fit in any horror movie. Queensryche and Fates Warning, the godfathers of prog metal.
@Narvik - Whoa! Really? Aw man, I may have to see if the guys from FW can help with that. I used to talk to John Arch on occasion at Fb when I had it. I'll have to see if I can reachout.
Always up for some classic Queensryche, and you're in for a real musical treat as you explore more of their catalogue (anything from their early works up to and including 1994's Promised Land album is musical GOLD). Enjoy!
I got the bands autograph and seen them 3 times in concert and let me tell yall they sounded like the studio album Live! Ky older brother got me into them with my all time fav album by them " The Warning " Yall gotta check it out !
Good reaction!! I like how both of you could appreciate some of the finer points of the music and vocals, etc. Lyrically, Walk in the Shadows was about vampires, and I Will Remember is about surveillance satellites. Their subject matter is always interesting and several cuts above the usual! QR is exactly the kind of metal I love!! They really are in a category by themselves. Very versatile. I love their INTENSITY, and perfectly crafted &.executed songs! Try live in Tokyo "Take Hold of the Flame", MTV 1991 Unplugged "The Killing Words", Oh heck, just ALL of their songs! And of COURSE the HIGHLY regarded "Operation: Mindcrime"!! Whole album, in order. It's a concept album. One long story. I look forward to more QR reactions from both of you!
Thank you so much for doing this band! So glad you liked them! Saw them many times and it makes me sad because they are so underrated. For my money, very few bands can compare. I'll leave you with an old anthem....Ryche n Roll 🎶
You'll have to check other tracks from this album, like Neue Regal. I'm the same age as these guys and we grew up in the same area. Occasionally went to the same parties and hung out back in the early 80's. Chris, Michael and Scott were pretty cool, humble dudes.
First soni ever heard from them. I caught that last half of the song on the rw radio....was blown away by the sound. There wws nothing like them. Excellent tracks on this awesome album, considered by many to be their best.
My favorite album :). Great Tour too! Sad they never "officially" released it on video, but there is Live footage of the whole show, not very good quality.
You probably remember me from commenting a lot of your Rush reviews and I'm glad you have finally found Queensryche. They have so many great albums and songs through the decades of the 80s and 90s before they split the band. I hope you will start doing some reviews of their stuff regularly...here's a few you might want to review: Queen of the Reich The lady wore Black Take hold of the flame Anything off of Operation Mindcrime, especially I don't believe in love, Suite Sister Mary, eyes of a stranger, the mission, Breaking the Silence. If you can youtube the official videos for these songs from the Operation Livecrime DVD that is the best way to review these songs from Operation Mindcrime because they sound exactly like the studio versions and watching them play them Live is fantastic. I was actually at the Columbus, Ohio show for this tour about 10 days before they recorded the same concert at their Madison Wisconsin show which is where operation livecrime video was shot. That album was followed by their biggest album ever Empire, containing a ton of great songs: Best I Can Jet City Woman Another Rainy Night Resistance Silent Lucidity Hand on Heart Anybody listening?
An interesting note: Warning was QRs' first attempt at a concept album. Released in 1984 about a technocratic Big Brother like society, inspired by George Orwells' 1984. Val Garay, mix engineer messed the song order up. Thus the angry title of the next album!
Rage for Order is my go to QR album. When Operation Mindcrime came out I was all over that and listened to it for a solid year or more 24/7 and thought that was thier peak and it might have been from a purely production and listening standpoint, but looking back more recently, Rage was the best example of what this band was ever about from a writing, technical, talent, and stylistic measurement. Geoff never sounded better and the musicianship was at it's best.
@@NH2112 - I remember getting "worried" when I bought the Lp, thinking that their music went "Glamm", nope . . . it became outright Proggy . . . hence from reviews, the 1st time I would hear the title "Prog Metal" :).
@@mvunit3 1986 was a good year, with Rage For Order and Somewhere In Time. Then 2 years later Mindcrime, 7th Son, and Them. Talk about the planets aligning!
When O:M came out I already had The Warning and Rage For Order. I remember actually being slightly disappointed with Mindcrime! I guess it just took me more time to get in to. Regardless, I agree that Rage might be their best album.
Operation Mindcrime must be listened to in one sitting. It is a rock opera, a story, so basically it’s one long song. It is absolutely the best heavy metal/rock album ever made, a perfect masterpiece. Enjoy!
I love Queensryche!! Anybody Listening is a great song from their Empire album. You should check out Nightwish now! More modern but with a phenomenal singer named Floor Jansen.
Imagine a Pink Floyd type concept album put to heavy metal - that is their album Operation Mindcrime. The album should be listened to in it's entirety to truly appreciate it. You guys should give it a go - think you would really enjoy it
Operation Mindcrime is considered to be their best by many people, but Rage For Order is right up there for me. The entire album is amazing, but you should at least check out I Dream In Infrared, London, and Screaming In Digital.
Queensryche might be the king (queen??) of power ballads. Check out any and all of the following (from their first five albums; I never went past those): Take Hold of the Flame Roads to Madness London The Mission Eyes of a Stranger Anybody Listening? Promised Land Somebody Else? (piano/vocal only track) And their epic prog metal masterpiece: Suite Sister Mary
Thanks for tackling Queensryche, one of my favorite hard rock / heavy metal bands ever. The have a bunch of good albums but their initial EP and first full album - Warning, along with Operation Mindcrime, were the best from the original band. Please do Take Hold of the Flame (live 1984 is the best version), Queen of the Ryche, The Lady Wore Black and On the Roads to Madness. As for Operation Mindcrime, like a Pink Floyd album it is best heard all the way through as it is a concept album of the 1st order. Enjoy! Rock On. 😎
This is very 80s to me, the music and the singing (siren-style as Bruce Dickinson, Jeff Scott Soto and others). I like both songs, but I only listen to QR once in a while. Geoff by the way is the shortcut of Geoffrey (I heard people pronounce it "Dschoffree". Fun fact: according to Wiki Geoff Tate is born in Stuttgart/Germany under the name Jeffrey Tate ... but it doesn't say when and why he turned Geoff
One of my favorite albums of all time! It was SO unique, and still is one-of-a-kind in terms of song writing and production. “Walk in the Shadows” was the most simple/metal song here, but a good intro to the album, because it’s fairly dark.
Mind crime is the 2nd best concept album ever. The wall will always be number one. Slower stuff that’s awesome is bridge and also someone else. Then you’ll have to dive into the album Empire.
On the singer's name... Geoff is pronounced like Jeff. Operation:Mindcrime is probably one of my favorite albums, CDs, whatever. You really need to listen to the whole thing though first to last track.
Got this in HS when it came out, I love it. I'd say as a complete album Operation: Mindcrime is more impressive, but Rage For Order is really underrated and has some very mature compositions and playing. Even their first LP 'The Warning' is impressive. Definitely a great band in that era. Thanks much for the reaction.
Loved them for 30 years….at this point they were just starting to find their sound. By the next album they had found their true sound. Operation Mindcrime is a masterpiece
No one here mentions Degarmo!
Chris Degarmo was the true genius here!
DeGarmo was part and parcel with Tate, they were a GREAT writing team, but also DeGarmo on his own. That includes the lyrics and composition of "I Will Remember". Great Guitarist!
YES, HE WAS!!
And he crushes it on backing vocals as well.
An extremely talented, but seriously under rated guitarist 🎸
No Michael wilton
My favorite Queensrÿche album... the music, the lyrics... a masterpiece, start to finish.
I Will Remember has such a beautiful, ethereal feel to it!
"Roads to Madness." Epic.
I love Queensryche and R for order is awesome

I think that there are aspects of Rage For Order that lead into the direction that they were going to for Mindcrime.
The warning and rage for order were better
Neue Regel , The Killing Words - Unplugged on MTV
Absolute stunner of a song. The MTV Unplugged performance is transcendently good.
Greatest band ever! Love everyone of their songs. Ryche rules
Queensrÿche, they turned metal into art with this album. Killing Words and I Will Remember live on MTV Unplugged will make you appreciate his vocals even more.

I Will Remember is one of my favorite Queensryche songs. Lyrically intriguing as well.

You guys definitely need to do more Queensryche.... especially so many great songs off of Empire or Operation Mindcrime
Operation Mindcrime is considered to be their best by many people, but Rage For Order is right up there for me. The entire album is amazing, but you should at least check out I Dream In Infrared, London, and Screaming In Digital.
Go back and watch Take Hold of the Flame "live in Tokyo 1984". A must see from back in the day
Queensryche might be the king (queen??) of power ballads. Check out any and all of the following (from their first five albums; I never went past those):
Take Hold of the Flame
Roads to Madness
London
The Mission
Eyes of a Stranger
Anybody Listening?
Promised Land
Somebody Else? (piano/vocal only track)
And their epic prog metal masterpiece:
Suite Sister Mary
Thanks for tackling Queensryche, one of my favorite hard rock / heavy metal bands ever. The have a bunch of good albums but their initial EP and first full album - Warning, along with Operation Mindcrime, were the best from the original band. Please do Take Hold of the Flame (live 1984 is the best version), Queen of the Ryche, The Lady Wore Black and On the Roads to Madness. As for Operation Mindcrime, like a Pink Floyd album it is best heard all the way through as it is a concept album of the 1st order. Enjoy! Rock On. 😎
You shoudl try NM-156 by these guys. If you thought that dual guitar solo was impressive...
My favorite track next to "Roads to Madness" \m/.
my top 3 rush ironmaiden and queensryche
Check out their song “ Suite Sister Mary “ live crime version- it’s a must
Early Ryche is the best Ryche!
You should try "The Killing Words" from the same CD. Amazing vocal performance (the entire CD is, but the melodies on that one are top-tier).
Loved them for 30 years….at this point they were just starting to find their sound. By the next album they had found their true sound. Operation Mindcrime is a masterpiece
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Tokyo live vid of Take Hold of the Flame..
Man, I hope I still have mine, but it may be in my storage unit :(. Have they put that on DVD yet?
