What do you suggest for a beginner in painting lighthouses flashes in traditional style?

Thank you Sam! I only use Ecoline for the colors in this piece. Bluish Green, Deep Yellow and Vermilion. They are all mixed a bit so not the actual color direct from the bottle.

And what are you washing the second brush in? Into the water? Or is it dry?? How do I make this shadow with a second brush?
