This is a walk from the Paperbark Flats picnic area carpark, Redbank Plains, Ipswich, to the Gun Pit Ridge Track lookout GPRT). This is a shared bike and walk trail; the bike path known as Pyro.
The track leaves the White Rock Track (WRT), and follows a ridge that runs parallel to the White Rock Ridge Track (WRRT). There are about 4 or 5 small split track sections where walkers and bike riders have separate tracks. The video stops at the lookout. I saw no sign of the WW2 gunpit, and the only image I have seen of the site is a poor quality Oz at War photo.
It is possible to continue west on the Gun Pit Track, and circle back on the Spring Mountain Track.
There is no track connecting the lookout to the WRT, but the distance is only 250 metres through steep but open country. I avoided any cliff sections, and descended in 10 minutes. I put up a separate video called … Gun Pit Track Lookout to the WRT … A walk off trail that covers this section.
