      @@FiremanUpDiscGolf yeah, it is a very, very straight shooter with just a bit of fade. When I get a good throw on it, I can get it out there as far as my 9 speeds or greater. I actually bag two just in case I lose one during a round, or for some player B shots when the course is not busy. Most of the courses in my area are tight and wooded.

    Really glad I found your channel. You and I are so much a like in our progress. And it’s nice to see how a beginner progresses, versus just watching videos of advanced players all the time.
    I played my first round in October of 23, but it was actually in prep to go out and play for my brother’s bachelor party. We’re real competitive with each other, because we didn’t get to spend much time together as kids… so to prep for this round I was playing with him and 3 of his friends, I made a coworker teach me, and then played 4 practice rounds in prep so that I wouldn’t be the worse in the group.
    Fast forward through all of winter and spring and I haven’t played at all. Then for some reason I decided to start back at the beginning of summer (of all seasons to pick back up.)
    I started out by borrowing 8-9 disc from that coworker. Then I went and bought a few, like the Jade (I’m also a big fan of it.) Now I’ve fallen down a hole and bought probably close to 30 disc in about a month’s time. (Because I haven’t joined a league and just had to buy stuff to try it and couldn’t borrow things before hand.)
    Now I’m trying to widdle my way back down to what I consider a Bare bones bag of about 12-13 disc. I bought Westside’s version of that trooper bag, and I noticed that while it can fit 20-21 disc, it just isn’t that comfortable carrying that much weight being out of shape. So I think I’m gonna carry similar to you, what I have confidence in. Funny enough that’s Jade, and Underworld. I’m also putting a Tursas in, a Bear, a few others. I found that I really like the Banger GT as my putting putter, so I, like you, bought 3 in different plastics to try.

      That is awesome. Beginning in the summer has been tough sometimes. One nice thing is the days are longer and you can get some early morning or late afternoon throwing in. I love using that small bag, unfortunately it doesn’t have a water holder but I bet someone makes a holder that would fit on the bag. I don’t throw the jade as much as I use too but still throw the underworld a lot. The Diamond I had replaced the Jade on most throws because it was a little heavier. I have added more stable to over-stable disc now due to the winds we get during the summer here in Texas and have had pretty good success My Jade and Underworld do not like the wind at all. I would encourage everyone to check out their local disc golf club/league I have met a bunch of great people and feel my game has improved faster by playing with people who are way better than me.
      I am really glad you stopped by and I do look forward on hearing your progress as we go along.

    I've been playing many years now and have improved my form, but I remember some of my favorite discs as a beginner-intermediate so I'll list some for ya.
    Neutron Soft Envy - fairly overstable for a putter, but is great for longer pushing hyzer approach shots, and forehand approaches. The plastic is grippy and durable.
    Zone - I have an ESP FLX one, I love the grippy feel and it sticks next to the basket instead of skipping away. I had a Lone Star Harpoon in V2 plastic before that, it is similar but vey shallow and less OS, but I loved that as well and it floated in water.
    Crave - I have this in Fission plastic. It beat in pretty fast. Fission would likely fly straight for you. I had a River before, but didn't like the hand feel and couldn't get clean releases. Fission Crave absolutely bombs but is squirrelly on me.
    Lucid Vandal - Understable 9 speed that was my workhorse in the woods for a long time.
    GStar Shryke - This was the longest flying disc in my bag no matter what for a long time, from when I was throwing 250ft - 350ft. It just went far, and had the same S-flight for me every time.

      Great suggestions. Sorry I missed your comment until now. I now have an Envy and a soft proxy which are my go to Approach disc and I love them, especially the soft proxy. I haven't tried the Harpoon or the Zone yet. I received a Fission Crave but the first day or 2 of throwing I couldn't get them up to flat so I took it out of the bag. About a month later I came back to it and it flies awesome for me now. Good and strait with a little fade. I just don't throw it a lot because my Rhythm 7 speed is my go to disc at the moment. I will look into a few of the disc you mentioned. Thanks for taking the time to suggest them and joining in on the journey.

    If you like MVP discs and you're still looking for a throwing putter, you really need to try a Watt. Super good throwing putter for every skill level. My 15 year old daughter just started playing a month ago, and she throws that thing far and dead straight.

    The disc golf bug got you fast, lol. Great video, Ive only been playing a little over a year so just a bit of knowledge from my experiences. The diamond and the underworld should be fairly similar in flight if the diamond is the heavy 170g diamond (its more rare to find on a shelf) typically diamonds are in the 150g range. Both are fun to throw and really easy to learn hyzer flips with. Ive not thrown a heat, but by your description its similar to my sphinx in flight, great flippy disc for throwing into a head wind at lower arm speeds, because you can use the headwind to push it into a hyzer flip in the wind without overturning it and follow the same line you would have with your diamond or underworld.
    If you are going to try out some stable-overstable discs try the Athena or something with similar flight numbers. May have to work on form and a little power to get a correct flight, but very useful for straight with a reliable hyzer finish. Then a firebird or capt raptor for a really beefy hyzer disc to grow into and learn as you improve. A Zone or something Zone like is a good putt and approach for upshots to the basket. That will open a nice smooth hyzer to the basket on the right side or a backhand turn over that you can throw to the left side and settle nicely to the basket or make a floaty run at it.
    The Athena, firebird, and zone all make for good discs to forehand also imo, so they are discs that can fit a few hats in your bag. Will have to agree with the previous comment about trying an envy for a throwing putter, They have a pretty straight flight with a nice reliable fade at the end.
    Just some thoughts and suggestions, I'd say you have a really good handle on your understable discs though. I use an MVP Uplink for an understable mid. Weights on those seem to change how flippy they are by a lot. I use a max weight Underworld for straight drives, a 165 Underworld for uphill drives and my Sphinx for headwind throws.

    • @FiremanUpDiscGolf
      @FiremanUpDiscGolf  4 месяца назад

      Yes, the golf bug got me fast. I have learned in the last week or 2 that my bag is way on the understable side. Big learning moment was on a few windy rounds, another was some of the understable are starting to turn more on me and the third is I lost my Diamond. I will stick more understable for now on my distance and fairways because I have been working more on hyper flips to control them with some success. I have slowly been adding more stable to over stable on my mid-ranges. I feel right now i have a little more control on my mid-ranges and can work them on shot shapes better. I have been throwing the proxy with a lot of success but have heard a lot of good things on the envy so might try that to add to the proxy for a little more fade since the proxy does not fade much on flat for me. I know a lot of my stuff is leaning towards the MVP/Axiom line but I like the feel of the disc and they fit my hand good. I appreciate your time and thanks for joining in on the journey.

    So I've been playing almost thirty years now, but about five years ago I had a spinal cord injury and surgery. I started playing again after two years off because of the spine stuff. Lost all my distance and basically had to start over from the bottom again.
    I feel like you could really get a lot out of a Glitch. And you might give a Proxy a shot, for a neutral throwing putter. The glitch is kind of similar to the catch frisbees we all played with as kids. It's easy to throw and really floats far. It's fun and really good and useful.

    Started about the same time as you, and I have several of the same discs in my bag! I have a Z-line Buzzz, a 152g Jade, a VIP Underworld (game changer for me!), and an IT. If you like the MVP/Axiom putters and you want to try a more stable throwing putter, I highly recommend the Envy! Some others I like: the Discraft Meteor in Z plastic flies really straight for my slower arm speed, and is a great midrange... my Innova Leopard flies really straight and has a ton of glide, and is my most accurate fairway driver... the only thing faster than the Underworld that I can get decent throws with is my Avenger SS.

    • @FiremanUpDiscGolf
      @FiremanUpDiscGolf  4 месяца назад

      That's awesome we share a lot of the same disc and started about the same time. I will take a look at the envy...I actually just picked up a proxy, I have only practiced with it a few times and love the flight on it so far. I will have to get some video of it. Now that it has been a few weeks since that video, I threw my Underworld so much it quickly beat in and now it has turned truer to the numbers. It is the second disc I have started to throw on quite a bit of hyzer and have it flip up. Of course, no surprise, the first one to really start turning on me after being a straight flyer is the Paradox . I appreciate you taking the time to comment and look forward to hearing more of your journey as well.

    I started about the same time you did. I found in the lighter weights, I can throw slightly faster discs. I throw a katana (13,5,-3,3) really well in blizzard champion. But overall, the Heat is my favorite disc. Followed by the TeeBird.

    • @FiremanUpDiscGolf
      @FiremanUpDiscGolf  5 месяцев назад

      I will have to check those out. I think that is why I can throw the Orbital good and straight right out of the box is it is lighter weight. One downfall, I found out doing field work this morning, was the lighter understabe disc like the Orbital and the Underworld did not like the 10 to 15 mph head wind, very flippy. The heat I have is max weight and it stayed straight even being a 9 6 -3 1 in the head wind. Thanks for taking the time and dropping a comment.

    So just for future reference, MVP gyro technology typically requires more spin rate than other discs to get them to fly the way the numbers say. My suggestion is to stay away from mids and fairway drivers from MVP while you are learning. Once you learn to spin the disc better they should work better for you. Great stuff!

    First off let me say you are spending way too much money😂 but that is the fun of it for me. I am 63 years old and have been playing for 10 years. If I was giving any advice to a beginner, the first disc that I would give them is a Innova Mako3 . this is a starting point. the numbers are a 5 5 0 0 so if you get a disc that is 170 g for a beginner,if you match the arm speed to the Disc, the Mako3 should fly straight and land straight down. now that same disc if you throw it and it turns right that means your arm speed is too fast for that Disc and you need a heavier disc and if the Disc does not turn but fades, then your arm speed is to slow, you need to go to a lighter Disc. The numbers are only a starting point to match the weight of the disc to your arm speed to get the disc to fly like the numbers are showing
    A good rule of thumb for beginners when you go up in speed, go down in weight, go down in speed go up weight,always match the numbers with the weight and arm speed they all go together😅
    I hope that helps. keep slinging them Disc 😊
