    I set up a home studio to enable me to teach guitar students online and have spent literally months of tearing my hair out trying to find a working solution to multiple audio inputs into Zoom. Nothing seemed to do what it said on the tin, the biggest problem being my USB guitar interface hogging channels and killing other sources. I tried OBS, routing tracks in Logic Pro or Reaper, Blackhole, VB Cable - nothing would give me the three main sources I needed: Microphone, USB Interface and System sound. After watching your video, I bought Loopback on a leap of faith and withing 15 minutes I had a robust working setup! Not only that, I could add keyboards and as many inputs as I desired. It also made recording multiple audio channels a breeze.
    I know it's 3 years old now, but thank you so much for this - you are a scholar and a Gentleman!

      Absolutely my pleasure! This channel is a catch all from my school, but I have a more "professional" channel called Ensemble Teacher Tech. I'll have tutorials like this one (and will probably migrate this video over, at some point. Here's a link, if you're interested: ruclips.net/channel/UCvrDr-A3g7-3XBFl5H2u0JQ

    I watched this video out of curiosity a while back and didn't think I'd ever need it so I didn't pay close attention, just thought it was a cool concept. Fast forward and I'm in dire need of some audio routing so I'm back and this is a life saver. Thanks Gregg!

      Absolutely my pleasure - I have even used this a few times for routing monitor-mixes for my live-recordings (see ruclips.net/user/islandtimesteelband to see the results) - works like a charm!

    A couple thoughts. Adding the zoom software as a source and having the pass-thru device and setting zooms speaker to the virtual device name is redundant. the whole idea of pass-thru is to have it show up as a output source but if you are already adding zoom as a source anything zoom plays to a speaker is captured in your virtual device. (I just tested this and it is true, i saw audio coming in on both. Second thought why do you even need to bring the zoom audio in, unless your capturing the video in some other application to save it. If you do this anything that is said from zoom from your students is brought into your virtual device and then sent back out to zoom. so the students hear what they just said thus causing some strange echo.

    Hi Gregg, thanks for the video, I have a question: What audio device are you using in MainStage 3 in this case? thanks!

    • @GreggCharestEWGBands
      @GreggCharestEWGBands  3 года назад

      Hello Jorge! I have been using a few: the Pearl Malletstation (I'm a percussionist), but also a small 32 key piano controller. I just started using a launchpad, as well (not in mainstage, but I think there may now be support for this? It's in Logic, anyhow).

    Thanks for the video, I’m currently using ListenTo audiomovers but I noticed that when I add a live track with a plugin for example a guitar amp or an audio channel with my acoustic guitar the audio isn’t going through. Does Loopback would make it go through?

  • @madmac66
    @madmac66 3 года назад +1

    Wow, this is an expensive solution, but it IS a solution. Seems to work great. My problem, as a guitar and bass teacher online, is that the signal I pass through Amplitube (an amp and stomp sim) get so delayed with latency when using a combination of Soundflower and AudioMIDI Aggregate Devices that I cant use it. I can’t find a solution to use ‘good’ sounding guitar tone (without using a bunch of outboard gear on my office floor), mix it with video and mic sources in OBS and send that all to Zoom. Loopback looks like a great idea. What is your experience with latency?

    • @GreggCharestEWGBands
      @GreggCharestEWGBands  3 года назад +1

      I am mostly not using midi, although for my private lessons (percussion) I occasionally use Mainstage with either a Pearl Malletstation controller, or a small keyboard. I haven't noticed an issue with latency. I am using OBS for classroom teaching and again, occasionally use Mainstage with my keyboard and haven't noticed an issue. I have run backing tracks while using multiple cameras for ukulele lessons with no issues. Rogue Amoeba has offered subscribers to my *other* channel a 30% discount if you use the code WIBC2021 when you purchase (a reference to a music tech session I'll be offering at the Western International Band Clinic in a few weeks). My other channel (this one is a school account) is called "Ensemble Teacher Tech" and I would be very appreciative for a like/subscribe over there. Glad this worked for you!

    Hi, any set up needed to happen in Audio Midi Setup before using Loopback?

    • @GreggCharestEWGBands
      @GreggCharestEWGBands  3 года назад

      I haven't needed to do any "extra" setup - but remember that you are always choosing sources and outputs, so if your source is, for example, Mainstage, you DO need to specify it and route it to the correct output.
