Pivot Ramp

  • In this video we explore the idea of a vector changing platform as a launch ramp for our differing scales of RC cars and trucks. This is an idea we've discussed for some time now and feel the time has come to explore this idea further. From prototype to finished product, we test these ramps to see if they are a viable solution to car weight vs velocity to gain altitude without imparting as much impact upon the vehicle in use. For anyone who's laid a road sign over a cinderblock and jumped it with an RC car, this ramp should be right up your alley. However, all is not smooth sailing either. Angle and power used at the ramp and speed, of course, all play a role in the trajectory of the car or truck in use. Come along as AJ walks you through the design of this new (new to us, anyway) ramp. Check it out as we put this new idea through the ringer to see if it can perform as we hope it will. Then decide for yourself if it passes muster. And, of course, feel free to comment in the comment section to help others along the way. AJJAMStudios

    Sounds like all my ramps! 4x8 with one 2x4! I just find the closest thing I can find and make a ramp. 🤣nice! 👍💯

    Won’t the flex just absorb the momentum and reduce velocity for the jump?

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  3 года назад +1

      Perhaps a bit, but I have not noticed a significant difference in height or distance. It does make the flight a bit unpredictable, however, and I find that interesting. I like the challenge of dealing with the flight in the air. All of the usual stunts are still possible, back flips, front flips, and such, and I think the flex works more like a catapult, bucking the car up. I do have plans to modify the ramp, and perhaps that will make another interesting video. Thanks for the comment.

    Can you tell us whether that is Aluminium or steel and what thickness or gauge it is?

      1/8th inch tempered aluminum. 👍

    Amazing idea, I like it! I'm not too sure the metal sheet will last though, eventually it will bend completely acquiring the shape of the base. I think a different material, like an acrylic sheet (plexiglass) might actually work better and won't loose its straightness (although it might shatter, it would have to be tested). It would be ideal to find the thickest acrylic sheet possible that allows for bending to the desired angle, maybe 10mm or so is pretty thick and I don't think it'll shatter. To reduce the possibility of shattering I would cover the entire inner face of the A shaped base so that when the acrylic flexes down it touches on a solid even surface.

      It did feel the strain, and I have a better sheet for it now. As far as plastic sheeting goes, I have considered Teflon sheeting at 3/4 of an inch thick, but $900.00 a sheet is too steep. Teflon won’t shatter. It also retains its low resistance quality over time. Thanks for the comment. 😎👍
