Me too she's thought me allot I'm getting a love bird at my birthday my birthday is December 19 I'm Soo excited too get the love bird I still don't know what will I name him/her
My family went camping recently, and when we go camping we leave for a week. We only do this once a year in July. But I haven’t had my quaker for that long (just over 4 months) so it was the first time I was leaving her. The pet sitter is a great guy he just didn’t have much experience with birds. And then right before we left Fate decided it was molting time and two giant pin feathers appeared on the primary part of her wing. My family had to do a lot of convincing to get me to leave her😂 thankfully there were no issues.
without you and the explanation at around 7:40, I would've probably had to go the vet. wasn't an urgency but I did manage to pull myself up and muster the courage to take the cloted feather out, thanks a million for this, alongside 2 other clips I found, I almost cried of joy after popping out the feather from my baby boy!
Helpful info! This video is great timing for me; I recently adopted a young budgie from the animal shelter who is now going through his first moult and also in the past few nights has started having night terrors. So breaking blood feathers has become a bit of a concern. I put a nightlight near the cage to try and help the problem, but am also making up a little birdie first aid kit just in case this happens. I'm hoping I never have to pull a broken blood feather myself, but since the closest avian vet is 2 hours away, at least I'll be prepared if it comes down to it.
This was so helpful! The other day I saw a blood feather on my budgie and I got worried because I could visibly see the blood in the shaft which I had never seen before (he's all shite so it's v visible). I contemplated pulling it out but after research I learned that you should only pull it out as a last resort, so thank God I didn't touch it. I'm keeping an eye on him in case he preens it too hard or breaks it. Thanks for the info!
Hey, could you please tell me a bit more about 'only do it as last resort's thing? I just noticed the exact same blood filled feather on my budgie and I'm trying to decide whether I should pull it out to avoid it breaking and bleeding when I'm not there.
I had my Jackie for 29 years. I didn't fully understand this. Thank you. I did know that he liked to rub his face on my finger, and I loved him so much i let him do it to his heart's content!!
Your channel is so underrated. From all channels I've seen, yours provides the best information. Maybe others use fun music or cute cartoons, but that's not gonna help the birds in the end 😋 My budgie has a pin feather on his head and today it kinda looks like it bled (but no bright blood, so not currently bleeding). I guess I shouldn't do anything currently apart from observing it. As long as it doesn't bleed again he should be fine 😊
If u have school during the day or something at night where you have to leave the bird in its cage, is there a chance it could break a blood feather while your gone. If so what happens if it keeps bleeding and you aren't home, is there a way to prevent this from happening
Hey! I know this isn’t the point of the video and I’ve watched your other one but my bird won’t eat the pellets and I’m afraid of him starving... he also can’t get a full nights rest at the moment due to construction and is understandably cranky... he’s only 10 weeks old and came completely untame, I have him target training and stepping up for millet but the seed diet won’t break... it’s the fourth day with him and I’m running out of the other food from the past home, please help...
Crush the pellets into small pieces, mix it with a little of the old food maybe put a little bit of millet (remove the seed bit from the stem). Slowly leave more and more of the pellet so it is larger, if you run out of the old food put millet in with it instead, after a good few weeks (when your bird is happy eating it) you should be completely on pellets. My bird wouldn’t eat pellets so we seriously had to smash it into powder. Hope this helps a bit.
@@pixie0098 Thank you! thats what im trying and im trying to trick him into thinking broccoli is seeds... im using some illet too and i made the pellets a litle wet so they were mushy... its working a little
I personally would dampen all of the other things like seed and millet and dunk it in some pellet powder so it tastes like pellet but still has the texture of the seeds
This happened to me last night I saw so scared I almost cried I was inexperienced even though I hade spent years with birds in a rush I put flower as it’s an alternative to kwik stop and luckily she pulled it out her self
I have a house chicken. Even though some of your videos will only help parrots, most do help my Chick too! She had a blood feather 5 days ago, and I had to pull it. 😕
Thank you so much I’m getting a cockatiel tomorrow and I’m afraid of night frights and blood feathers and since my vet closes at night I’m just worried about not knowing what to do
I wouldn’t be too afraid night frights usually do not hurt them very bad and my cockatiel has never had a night fright and she stays in my room I usually put her to bed then sneak into my room later.
My Cockatiel is about 14 years old and he does have night frights every so often. He bashes his cage and toys, but he hasn't had a broken blood feather in many years. When he was young he was constantly breaking them, so extra flour and cornstarch were always kitchen staples. Knock on wood, but we've never had to pull a broken blood feather on any of our birds.
quick question my bird is very clumsy and often hurts himself when landing today he did that as well and i noticed two of his feathers that fell out had a little bit of blood on them he seem fine and their no blood on there body i can but should this be a cause for concern?
Planning on getting a pair of budgies soon and doing all my research.. this sounds like a pain for both you and your bird to deal with 😂. I hope this never happens, but if it does, I hope my bird will forgive me for holding it down and removing the feather.
I think your videos are amazing. thank you very much for making them. I do have a question though, I have an air purifier and it says to clean the filter with ammonia, would it be a bad idea to use this air purifier?
hi! I’m getting a cockatiel soon and i was wondering if it was okay to move his/her cage outside my room at night because I sleep there and I use an ac.
I have a cockatiel and sleep with an ac and she is in my room. I keep my window open so she doesn’t get too cold then I point my ac at me so I don’t get hot. Hope this helps!
I just know they shoudlnt be in the room with ac because dry air isnt good for them. If u should get him outside dwpends on the temperature and if hell be too scared which im not sure will happen
It is okey! Birds cage doesn’t have to be in your room when you sleep. We enjoy having a cage with wheels on the bottom for an easy transportation/change.
Yea my birds molting rn and I brought it on the bed, and then blood randomly appeared on certain spots the bird was on my bed, so thank you for this I got scared she was hurt or somthing
So my bird has like his feather of strands sticking out on his wing and it has a bit of blood on it but he’s been preening it and he doesn’t seem to be bothered he is even stretching
I’ve tried corn starch before but honestly it didn’t help much. I’d suggest u use kiwi stop. It helps clot the blood quick n I heard it helps relieve pain a bit.
Omg me too. Like iw would see the really white ones and try to flake them and my bird would sometimes squeak. I couldn't understand it tho. I'm such a bad owner 😭
my cockatiel has some pin feathers (2-3) on his head, but, their white. so im not sure if thats normal. Please give some responses so i can know what's going on
The white is the casing that covers the new feather. When I still had my parakeet, they popped up all around his forehead and cheeks during some times of the year. It's nothing to worry about.
my bird cant reach some of his pin feathers, so he needs help, i try to be careful but im scared im gonna accidentally kill him, but i feel so bad because hes super cuddly and loves being pet
My bird just had a night fright and it's wing is bleeding it doesn't seem to bad but I'm scared for it and it doesn't let me hold it yet because I only got it a day ago I can't even touch him yet and I'm scared he's gonna die and I can't do anything
@ILHAN ZAYNAB BINTI FAREZ ZAIN Moe well if you aren’t excited about it then you might lose interest so maybe you shouldn’t. But to be honest it’s really not that hard. I clean the cage once a week and it takes me like two minutes then once a month I clean all the bars of the cage. And when you bring your bird to the vet they will clip the nails and trim the beak for you when you go in for a check up. And blood feathers don’t happen often but if they do you just gotta know how to deal with it. Then the rest of it is just spending time with them. Yes they are a lot of work, but so is every other pet. And the bond that you will have with your bird will be well worth the work.
@ILHAN ZAYNAB BINTI FAREZ ZAIN Moe well I have 3 budgies and parrotlet, but I’m hoping to get a Maximus pionus soon. And I’m glad your gonna get one. You seem like you’ll be a great owner.

Agreed! I've been thinking this for quite a few videos now. I love the stuff she uploads and it's obvious that a lot of thought and work go into it, so it's a bit of a shame that the audia quality is so bad. Hope this will get better with future videos, as the rest is really great!
