The removal of the record limit is a total gamechanger in my opinion. I'm so glad that Panasonic listened to the feedback and implemented it so quickly - it shows they actually care about their consumers.
I have a pair of the S5II & X and a G9II. So I bought a S9 two weeks ago cause I wanted a “dad cam” that I can grab and go and just take pics for personal memories. Overall I really love it, it’s actually really fun to shoot with it. I’m even using it more than my G9II because of the ease of use with the LUTs with the Lab app. These updates are great for the entire line up of cameras.
An S9R for Hybrid Zoom would be low key clutch and I didn't even think about that. This update and lens is awesome and I reckon could be hidden gem for a compact full frame POV. Nice video mate
Seems like these features could have come out at launch no? Guess I'm confused why they released the S9 without these features in the first place... Glad to see the lumix lab support come to the s5ii...
I wish they'd give some love to the Lumix S1R. It's sad to see that "worse" cameras from Lumix have more functionality and the S1R getting no proper software updates
Josh is the new Smoky white color available for US region ? I see a preorder for the Pink and Mint green color but not white, could you let lumix know about this ? I’m instantly preordering the white version if it shows up.
Which means the critics that didn't like the S9 were right, it shouldn't have had all those restrictions. I still think the S5ii with the 20-60 is a way better deal than this with the new lens. Price needs to go down to 1200$ with the lens, and 999$ body only for it to make sense.
@@Metro6amso Panasonic expects us to pay the same price as the S5ii with at least 10 cut features just because there are people looking for smaller cameras?
Those critics brought more attention and had a reason to talk about the camera. Now those same YT will make a new video about the camera brining attention to it again. Its great marketing
Nice overview, thank you Josh I was kinda hoping for a S9R to be a "pro version" honestly: with EVF, hot shoe, shutter and indeed highres that said as an owner of the S5 OG, GH6 and a G100 i got hesitant with buying new anyway Hope you'll keep us informed :)
Had they released the camera without the record limit alongside this 18-40 lens, it would have received a much better reception. At $1,800 for camera and lens, it's a much better value proposition. Hopefully they will learn from their launch mistakes.
Just picked up a Lumix S9 w/ a Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 and I couldn’t be happier. Panasonic please add a red boarder around screen when recording like Sony does and it’ll be perfect.
Josh do you reckon the 18-40 will be good enough for commercial vertical content. I have a A7R5 and a Tamron 20-40, but really would like a backup camera and lens. I like the stabilisation on the S9 so thought it could be useful at 18mm for building and room push in shots, instead of carting a gimbal around
I just need to know one thing before I buy this camera. Can you shoot in Vlog for max dynamic range and then apply a rec709 lut and then another stylized lut baked in? Essentially removing the need for post processing with a computer.
From the early rumors, I was hoping the S9 would have the same 60mp sensor that my FPL has. It was a top of the line sensor over two years ago, so by now it should be available in something more affordable. Cool new lens, but I love shooting faster glass on these full frame sensors, IMO a budget minded new photographer would be better off buying a couple very inexpensive and compact prime lenses out of China.
@@JoshCameron I believe you , I already have an S5II and find it too bulky for everyday carry was gonna get a fuji but the shackles have come off the s9 !
Yes, this firmware update has completely changed my view of the device! I'll retract the shade I shot at it on release, good on Panasonic! Would like to know more about real world long recording and overheat, my personal case would be to run 4k25 as a static tripod. Lens looks decent for what it is too. Thanks for the video. Can this digital zoom feature work with other lenses on the S9?
I think lumix was always going to do it. They knew form the start that YT didn't like the recording limit sit and would want it taken away. It gave them a reason to release a new FW update that would get YT talking about the camera again witch is what has done.
Im rocking the sigma 10-18 apsc 2.8 and I think that one is smaller and definitely stretches less. Why not shoot 2.8 smaller sensor and be able to pump 48fps and 60fps when needed maintaining the wide view z
I'm really quite disappointed with the announcement today. Great for S9 users, but for those with the advanced and more expensive models like the S5II don't get frames or the new AF features. Likewise the GH7 has the newer AF modes but their photo centric G9II doesn't get these modes. Very frustrating.
I was infested in this camera for photography. I could get over the fact that there isn’t any EVF but no mechanical shutter and 12 bit RAW are deal breaker for me
Does it fix the major issues of not having active cooling? Or having no mechanical shutter? Or not having 12 bit raw? Or only having 1 card slot?, or of not having an evf? Or of not having a hot shoe? Or of not having a full size hdmi port? Or of being 50% overpriced? Maybe we'll have to wait for the next firmware update to address those ridiculous shortcomings that the youtube panasonic shills forgot to mention!
I have an S9 and the AF works flawlessly in all frame rates. To me, it feels like phase detect works in 1080 60p. *Correction the phase detect DOES works in all modes
So.. 40mm f6.3 is perfect for portraits - bud , nothing personal but how much u get paid to promote this crap lens? Only available budget friendly lenses are 35/50/85mm f1.8

I was going to mention the Hybrid Zoom crop, but decided not to! No way hahaha, Mint would be sick!

Thanx Josh, great vid again. Next week im going to Japan and I hope to pick up the s9 with the new 18-40

Any zoom lens that has electronic contacts. So 20-60 becomes 20-90 in 4K.
