I like how it introduces the attack with sparks floating down first, and then every other time after, he starts shooting at you halfway through as if he intended to catch you offguard
I sort of like to imagine he knows he'll lose and is just trying to get you to burn through as many healing items as he can to give anyone else remaining a fighting chance
A certain skeleton would be hell if that went to his plan

If anything, it’s a show of how powerful you’ve gotten at this point of genocide in undertale. It’s not that Mettaton was weak, it’s more that you were overpowered.

@@grubly9372 Genocide attacks are ridiculous as to how high they go against the main characters the further you go into the run. At the start you deal around 2k damage to Toriel, Mettaton NEO gets hit by a 40k damage attack, Sans gets hit by a 9 million damage attack, and by the end you deal 9 trillion damage to Asgore, which doesn't immediately kill him, only knock him down to his knees until Flowey finishes him off.
Talk about overkill.

Really love this so far! One suggestion I have: the part where Mettaton's feet kick out like Undyne's spears could possibly be changed to feel more like a kick, flashing red a few times in the area where the kick will happen and then the leg flies out really fast. The speed at which this occurs could get faster throughout the fight, too.
Unfortunately I'm a pretty mediocre coder, it took me an entire day just to get that attack working properly, and I would of made them faster except I made them too long and when it moved faster than the second time (which is faster than the first) I ran into a problem where they became unavoidable since the ones that have spawned will still be passing by when new ones spawn which creates a wall that forces you into a corner and you inevitably get hit. I can fix this by making them shorter so they can fire faster but I'm not too sure about the flashing red since their set to fire at where ever your soul is and I don't think Undertales standard warning box would properly convey the direction of one these attacks since their set to spawn from every direction, I could give it a crack though.

additionally, maybe add something like "Mettaton NEO is sparking." or "Mettaton NEO looks like he'll fall apart any second now." when he's low

This is amazing, one thing I'd like to add is that since he doesn't talk, when you eat the MTT brand food he should say something along the lines of, "I hope you choke on it." and when you eat the instant noodles his ATK should rise
And there should actually be a chance that when you choke on it you would lose about 10-20 hp
This is very toby fox-style attack-wise, just add some dialogue and maybe background lights to suit mettaton’s nature and you’ve got yourself a fight so good that if a new player were to encounter this in the actual game, they’d fully think it’s real and wouldn’t believe you if you told them it wasn’t! Great job!

It's nice how you use some of Toby's unused sprites, like some of the robot attacks for example.
This absolutely lives up to my expectations. I was seriously disappointed when I fought Mettaton NEO and it was basically a joke fight. Come on man, I just fought Undyne the Undying and have Sans coming up. We're in the endgame now. I want more of a challenge. I'm genuinely loving what you've got so far, and from what I can guess it's not even finished. Great job and good luck!
ok but to be fair, if MTT NEO wasn't a joke, then the fight against Sans would have been worse bc everyone would have already eaten the good items by now making Sans more of a pain. Plus we already have [[NEO]] IN [Your other Local] PLACE!

For anyone wondering, the indestructible block and sparkily mettaton box are both cut attacks that were removed from mettaton EX's fight.
Try giving him some fight dialogue like “alphys was right about the evacuation thing” or “I’m the only hero the underground has left!”

Amazing job, this genuinely looks like what the mettaton neo fight would have been! I would say it’s a good idea to change how the laser blaster moves so that it feels less like a gaster blaster. Having them move to the screen in a linear line could look good.
Yeah, the laser doesn't feel like laser at all. Also, i think it should also move and charge directions in-screen, slowly charging it's direction to try to damage the player player and trying to follow him for a while to get a better spot. It could make sense since NEO is trying to do the most damage he can before he dies. When he as very low HP, he should try an all-out attack, constantly blasting and throwing attacks at you before his blastes get overloaded and you kill him.
This is exceedingly good!
It just needs a tiny bit more polish and refining before its amazing!

The hp thing was either in the game files or just the empty gun being hard to use
When it comes to the difficulty of the attacks I'm not trying to go overboard like most fan animation or fan games do with their boss fight, instead I'm trying to keep it somewhat consistent with the general difficulty of Undertale but slightly harder because it's a genocide fight, additionally, whenever I get hit in this video it is me legitimately getting hit and I'm not really bad at Undertale fights plus you have to fight Sans right after this so I can't have him burn all your healing items.
As for his health it's unchanged from what it is in the game files, however, if you use the Empty Gun against him and get perfect hits every time you can kill him in 8 turns (I just find it hard to use), which is faster than the standard Undyne the Undyning battle in which if you get perfect hits against her than the fastest you can kill her is 12 turns.
When it comes to dialog, I'm not a writer and anything I could come up with just felt too goofy to me, didn't match the tone of Genocide or didn't match Mettaton, so I elected to keep him silent, just like Undyne the Undyning is. Besides I personally like it better this way as to me it gives the impression that he's taking the fight seriously.
On to damage, the reason it's so low is because I'm level 18 if you drop down in level his attacks to more damage because I reworked Undertale's armour/ defence system for the player so that you take less damage the higher the level you are (monster also do more damage to somewhat compensate), for example a simple drop from level 18 to level 17 increases the amount of damage you take from a standard attack of Mettaton Neos from roughly 9hp to roughly 14hp. I think I might keep the damage you take from Mettaton Neo at level 18 about what it is as a reward for people who managed to reach it before fighting him.

May I add a suggestion, perhaps you could add more dialog in-between attacks because there appears to be a lack of that in this fight. Other than that, I think this is pretty well made.

Attack suggestion: SOME of the mettaton arms should try to punch you even after you shoot them as a "HAHA! Gotcha!" kind of thing.

I suggest you change the sound of the mettaton lasers that the gasters use, for the sound of the deltarune queen's laser, that would be better in the fight
This is great! The only problems I have with this are:
-Some of the attacks are really weak due to how slow they are, even compared to Undyne. (Such as the disco ball attack, for example) while others are way too difficult to dodge (Like the weird lightning dodging attack with super small gaps)
-Some of Box Form/EX's more iconic attacks could really be great to place here at the fastest speed (Such as the EX attack with the bombs and boxes, or the one with the 1V1 against the robotic heart, as long as its the hardest version of them. While Box Form doesn't have that many interesting attacks, it could be nice to see its Red SOUL mode attack with the falling boxes since its pretty hard to dodge, or its own lightning attack)
-Lack of dialogue from NEO himself or different battle text on your turn than just "Stage lights are blaring"
-While the arm gaster blasters are fine, it would be nice to see Mettaton fire their actual arm cannon, a la Spamton NEO.

I think this is going great, but I suggest adding like a difficulty “ramp” of a slow steady increase in difficulty throughout the fight, making the begging start easier to balance things out

I think it would be better to use song savior of humanity but it's up to you
personally I think some of the attacks are kinda bland, most of them are just various objects falling from above. I think there should be a bit more variety in the objects, and he should use his gun more often during the falling attacks as well

For what it's worth? This is pretty good! My only critique is that some patterns seem pretty hard to miss. For example, the lightning bolts falling from the top of the screen to the bottom. While good in idea, the execution makes it seem so hard to dodge. Maybe have a way to stop them too, like something is shooting it, and if you hit it so many times, then they stop. You need to keep in mind this is before Sans, so it has to be easier than him. This doesn't seem impossible, as you demonstrated, but it does seem pretty rough because you'd use a ton of heals on this battle.
Other than that, this is great! Incorporates ideas from Mettaton EX and other enemies in Hotland, which I believe is a great feature. Keep up the great work and stay determined! I know this will come to be a masterpiece at the end!

Oh, of course, one of the major reasons Toby didn't make Mettaton Neo a real fight in the base game was because he didn't want the players wasting a bunch of healing items before going into the Sans fight.

This is meant to be somewhat balanced, since you have to fight Sans directly after this fight, I didn't want him to be too hard.

Maybe you could get this by aborting your run in Hotland. The reason you kill him in one hit in genocide is because he's programmed to fight human and you killing in one hit is the game's way of telling you that you're no longer human. Him putting up a good fight should you abort your run could be the game's way of telling you that you've regained a bit of your humanity.
So glad neo as a boss fight is getting more attention, now we need a fangame where him and undyne team up. That would be crazy.

small thing to point out, since in genocide Alphys evacuates Hotland and the core you don't meet with her, hence she doesn't upgrade your phone so you shouldn't have the yellow mode, tho I'm aware at this point of progress in creating the fight it can't be changed anymore
I just like to imagine that the Human just does what Kris does and forces their soul mode to change to fire back.

This has potential, but it still needs some work. A lot of the attacks look like Mettaton is just throwing a bunch of crap at you and telling you to dodge it. I also think he should have some dialogue.
There was no need to make Mettaton NEO an intense Boss fight, as long as he HAS one. He can be similiar to Toriel in terms of fight difficulty

Vulkins attacks are Mettaton Neo's defauts so I left them in and changed thier sprites for this fight as a reference to that.
idea: make attacks which make the sprite animate like physically shooting lasers out of the sprite
my only question is how you would get the yellow heart, as you need the upgraded cell phone to get it
I personally like to think the Human is just firing determination bullets out of the Gun, besides Kris kind of just pulled it out of nowhere in Deltarune so I see no reason why that can't be the case here.

Sorry if it was a bit much, I played Undertale so many times that the Geno bosses (even Sans) started to get a bit easy to me, so along with Mettaton Neo I also buffed everyone else a bit (and Undyne alot).

Hey. By testing the standalone Mettaton NEO mod. Omega Flowey has extremely more HP than he should be and also the green projectiles during the green soul don't heal. I hope you read this and fix it.

Do you know how to create attacks for MTT NEO in Undertale Mod Tool?
I really want to know 'cause I'm new at making mods and stuff
It's kind of hard to explain, if you want to use a pre-existing attack you can usually find them somewhere within the code for whatever character uses them _step script or somewhere in their battle scripts, the attacks you find will normally have additional code with them that determines how they spawn, the number of them spawning, their patterns, spawn rate, what direction their moving, etc. This is what I did for a lot of the attacks I used for this mod, I took a bunch of pre-existing attacks and modified them to make my own attack patterns, in the case of stuff like the Mettaton Neo legs and Neo blasters, I would recommend looking up tutorials online, or asking on redit or somehere similar, but, what I personally did was copy a bunch of scripts for gaster blasters and Undynes spears, modify and rename them to work with Mettaton Neo and replace the pre-existing sprites for them with custom ones edited.
As for getting them to work in Mettaton Neos fight, it's been a while since I did it but I'm pretty sure you have to change Mettaton Neos Mercy modifier to a different number to make the game not skip his turn (I used the number from Undyne the Undyings battle) and then change the damage system so that he doesn't take a guarantied million damage from an attack (I used code from Udynes battle again here) and then change how he reacts to taking damage so that he doesn't die until his HP runs out (his normal scripts just say that if he's attacked he dies regardless of how much HP he has). Once you've done that he should work like an normal fight, and will be using Vulkins attacks, since those are Neos defaults, now it's important that you don't delete these attacks as, doing so will break the fight. If you want to add new attacks to the fight then all of them must be build including one of these attacks as part of them, you can see this in my earlier parts I used to just turn down their fire rate to make them only play once during the other attacks but I later learned you can just code it to so that the entire script is just one on these attacks that deletes it's self before spawning and then you can build the rest of the attacks on top of it. I would recommend adding code to the attack that creates a turn order that increases by 1 every turn and then creating a different attack for each number, you can then write code to loop the set the order back to a specific number once it reaches whatever number is the last attack you have so that it repeats.
Personally for me I learned a lot of this stuff through reading through the pre-existing code to try to get an understanding of what it did, trial and error, and asking people of redit when I couldn't figure something out, but, I hope this helps even a little bit.

@@FChesco If your starting the Undertale mod tools for then press File - Open and then click on the data.win to open Undertales files (if the directory isn't set in the the mod tools automatically then it should be located at here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Undertale if not you'll have to locate it on your own)
Then click on Code.
If you want to find Mettaton battle related files type Mettatonb or Mettatonex or Neo into the search bar.
If you want to find Undyne battle related files than its Undyneb and Undyne_ex (for Undyne the Undying)
The code that defines how they respond to taking damage should be in their _Step_0 files near the top (this is also the file that either defines the attack patterns or calls other files that do) and the code that defines how much damage they take is located in their _Alarm_3 files.

@@FChesco Not all of it just some of the code from them, read through the code from Mettaton Neos Step_0 and Alarm_3 and Undynes so you can find out what the code does and which lines to replace.
Hey umm, a question, and something I need help answering, right so does the mod ONLY affect the mettaton boss, or other bosses too? Because I got to the undyne fight and surprisingly she kills me in 1 hit + extra buffed, or is it because I named myself merg for a reason I don't know, any ideas?
This Fight is part of a rebalance mod witch makes Monsters stats become closer to their Check Stats the higher the Level you become, and Undyne in this version is a bit cracked. I'm currently making her a bit easier and changing the Sans fight a bit as well but I don't have an ETA on anything.

The fanmade fight is amazing but the only thing I can point out is the lack of dialogue between turns. The fight feels off with Mettaton not speaking.
If you’re ever making more parts, I recommend you really add some dialogue! It makes the battle more much interesting. Y’know?
I know people want dialog but I kind of like it silent, it makes me feel like he's taking the battle seriously like Undyne the Undying, plus I'm not much of a writer, most of the dialog I've thought up has either not fit the tone of the Genocide run, not match Mettaton as a character or was just cringy.
