Produced by the Van Beuren Studio in New York, and originally released by RKO-Radio in March 1934. Acquired for the 16mm "home movie" market by Official Films in 1945.
I've always gotten Bert and Eastwood mixed up. They look and act so much alike, it's scary. I've researched it extensively and they are not the least bit related.
This crudely made and poorly directed 1934 short, shot at the Van Beuren studios in New York, primarily an animation house, let’s us see a bit of what made Burt Lahr one of the biggest stars on the Broadway stage. Along with his frequent partner Ethel Merman, his over the top energy did not transfer as well to the screen as it filled a theater. He is best remembered of course for playing an animal, as we all know.
Came here after reading Bert’s biography written by his son. I loved this so much, thanks for uploading it.
The Justice of the Peace/Judge is played by Harry Davenport, best remembered as Grandpa in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS.
Guy really used his amazing personality in all his roles 😂🎉🎉
2:40 Bert makes a very prophetic statement: "I want to hear the Wizard of Bullets!"
Just came to see a very young “Wally” from Ozzie & Harriet.. he played the Indian

You may call it "crudely made and poorly directed." I call it charmingly simiple. And very funny.
@@ccvisions You clearly see very well.
Exit, stage left. XD
There's no sound.
HARRY SHANNON, the crook who pretends to defend Burt, played the forlorn father of the child Charles Foster Kane in CITIZEN KANE.
