From inverted full rotations, to pop shove its, Yago Dora has raised the bar of backside surfing at a right hand point break. The judges simply didn’t know how to score the level of progression that Yago was putting on, dishing out 7s and high 6s at first, for waves that deserved 8s and 9s. Until he stomped one of the most insane inverted backside full rotations that has ever been witnessed at Jeffery’s bay. Forcing them to give him the score her deserved. As a goofy footer all I can say is obrigado, Yago you are truly an inspiration, and you have forever changed backside surfing from this day forward. Even if you don’t win this event, you have won the place in my heart that belongs to my favorite surfer(you). OBRIGADO YAGO!!!
Dora looked gooooooooooood! His lateral air and pop-shove it wave should've gotten a higher score. They should add "an intangible excitement point" for surfers like Dora. Also another extra point for doing an air that most competitors aren't doing to motivate them to do more than the standard front and backside reverses.
bring back julian wilson, conner coffin, michel bourez, and jeremy flores.... style and power masters....! bring back king parko and the master tom curren. bring back the best commentaors.... ronny blakey and pottz...! ps. wsl. can we do a finals series at a power surfers wave (so a power-style surfer has a chance of winning).. you did promise youd change the finals venue every year...... can we just get rid of the finals series.... it just doesnt represent who is the best surfer over the FULL year. californication of the wsl....$$$$$$
Can we please not turn J-Bay into a one turn air completion. Top to bottom, connected power surfing👐🏽. It was a sick air, but it was a J Bay close out, so by tranditional standards it should be rewarded as such. Yago’s other scoring waves were half the size, deserving of a MUCH lower score than the same surfing being done on a set wave. Yago’s got rail game, and scoring at J bay should require he and all other surfers use it to be rewarded, lest every completion just become about doing the biggest air.
It's a "one air completion" because the organizers are running this comp on a pretty small day. If they waited or run this on the upcoming big days next week, you won't have to worry about these one trick airs.
Yago deserved the win but throwing near perfect scores for one move is nonsense. Unless it’s a maneuver we haven’t seen before and/or isn’t ludicrously mental to pull down for the conditions it shouldn’t ever break an 8. And Yago sticks these kind of airs all the time.
