i just binged all of your avatar reactions so I really waited for this one, it's an emotional episode I usually only watch reactions to this show when it's all done and uploaded but I really like the way you guys do it, first of all the quality of the video is better than a lot of reactors (you don't cover the show too much, the structure of the video is good) plus your disscussions are great, you really understand together the story, the characters, you don't just recall what you just watched keep it up!

See, I did a full rewatch of this show with my sister. She absolutely loves Appa and always disliked the treatment of animals in circus. So when we got to this episode, I was like "Oh boy..."
Tfw you realize there's a guy who literally gets paid by standing in the recording booth for hours making the sounds of a flying bison and a winged lemur.
Another tearbender episode. It gets me every time I watch it, so I cried along with Carlie again. As hard as this episode is to watch, it's still really good and it was nice to have an episode dedicated to Appa after we hadn't seen him in a while. Glad you guys got to see more of how awesome Suki is too. Someone's obviously still having fun with those Joo Dee jumps scares. 😂
4:23 I genuinely wonder if this statement is a throwback to that Haru coal mine episode where that warden asked "is this a buffalo or a bison". If there is something called a "wind buffalo" or something similar even in that universe and if an airbending avatar is out there, it'd be natural to know whether a creature is a buffalo or a bison exactly.
ATLA gives us Leaves From the Vine last episode, and now we have to watch Appa suffer this episode. This was such a brutal 1-2 emotional gut punch when it first aired, and it made me go hug my dogs.
I don't have any pets and never have, but watching Appa get taken and then what happened to him afterwards had me feeling saddened, enraged and heartbroken like I had one😢

ATLA predates the AOT manga by a few years, so any similarities you see are AOT being influenced by ATLA, not the other way around. I think that's unlikely, though, as ATLA was inexplicably not a big hit in Japan nor South Korea.
Now see, the last episode makes a lot of people cry, but then they think the next episode might lighten then up. NOPE. Animal Trauma! For some people, this episode makes them cry more than the Iroh segment last episode. Avatar wasn't playing around man.
Long Feng is a typical political figure, anything he gets his hands on is dirt, or "material" that he can use to get whatever he wants or needs in that moment of time. In this case, the bison offers him an exclusive shot to remove the Avatar out of Ba Sing Se should things get out of hand. He also knew it would be a matter of when and not if the avatar regains the bison, so him leading the bison into a trap so he can trade the avatar for it, means that 1. he gets something out of that reunion, possibly and 2. the Avatar has to give something up to achieve that reunion, most likely his stay in Ba Sing Se.
This and the desert episode is 2 episode I skip when I was kid watching on tv. Because it's hurt for young me watching Aang angry because losing appa in desert and of course I no need to say the reason for this episode, it's just so hurt to watch 😭
Youre almost halfway through book 3 on Patreon so no spoilers here. When Aang ran away from the Air Temple it was because the monks said they were sending him to the Eastern Air Temple to train to be the Avatar. Guru said he had a vision and came to the Eastern Air Temple to train the Avatar so its theorized Guru possibly waited 100 years for Aang to show up.
You just have to love how basic ass tropes like "inclosured society holds dark secrets" and "tree is a sacred/meaningful place" are what you call similar to Attack on Titan 😂
This episode is such a cheapshot on writer's end lol Animal hate, pedophilia, nazis, etc. are certain triggers that we can't help but feel bad for or feel good about. Not saying that the episode is bad - surely, that shouldn't be a conclusion in your head after reading this comment

I always love and make note of this. It’s a small thing but him asking permission really shows more respect than most.
i also love how Guru Pathik stays laying on the ground, lifting his head a little to see Appa's reaction, and waiting until Appa is more comfortable

Season 2 is full of incredible moments. The show has only gotten better since Season 1.
