20th UYD (2019): Annual focus on SDG16 - Youth & Justice

Every year the Network on Youth and Global Citizenship agrees for an umbrella theme, representing the thread that connects all the activities taking place in the framework of the Universities of the same year.
The annual theme 2019 is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, with a focus on “Youth and Justice”.
Through multiple Court-cases simulations, the Joint Team raised UYD participants’ awareness on unequal access to justice and barriers to civic and political participation, especially among young people, women and migrants.
Moreover, thanks to the expertise of Cristina Gallach Figueres - High Representative for the 2030 Agenda of the Government of Spain - and of Agata Stajer - human rights expert and lawyer - the UYD participants further explored the link between democratic participation, youth rights, sustainable development and social justice.
