In some Orthodox Jewish families, they will hire a non-Jewish kid from their neighborhood to turn their lights on and off on the Sabbath, since they consider using electricity to be a form of work.
This is just the same principle in reverse.
Jesse Berg They can’t hire him, because that would be paying him on Shabbat, but he’d do it anyway.
I WAS CHOOSEN BY HEAVEN!
@MinecraftPro15 Orthodox Rabbis would tell you that triggering a switch is still work, whether you flick it directly or trigger it via motion detection. What doesn't count, appearently, are automated processes initiated before the Sabbath: so elevators in Israel are set to continuously go up and down stopping on every floor for the entire Sabbath. That way people just get on and get off, but don't actually control it.
@MinecraftPro15 you don't have to stay still, you just can't have motion sensors on your lights.

B R there should be more about San Marino. Come on people!
I really hate this channel's community. All they do is just endless meme-spouting and once something remotely fresh comes up, you can bet your ass they will keep repeating it ad nauseaum. It seems like 90% of the comments here are yet another piece of "dialogue" trying so hard to farm cheap likes. Basically, your only option of ever finding something actually interesting is by entering threads because the meme crap typically dies after the third reply and then actually interesting debates sometimes happen.
I mean, this is obviously the case with almost every history-related channel out there. But Indy Neidell or Epic History TV's channels somehow seem able to attract the kind of crowd that's legitimately into history and you can learn truly cool tibdits directly from their comment sections.
There are more comments about how many comments there are about James bisonette than there are comments about james bisonette

PS who were Caiaphas and Barrabas then? I remember the Sanhedrin organized the trial, Caiaphas ordered him put to death, Pilate finding no evidence that he was guilty, Pilate allowing the Jews to set one prisoner free, and the Jews choosing Barrabas instead of Jesus. Did they rewrite that bit recently?

Fun Fact: The Pope is a king. Specifically, he holds the title of the King of Vatican, and for the purposes of conducting diplomacy with secular and non-Christian majority nations he's officially referred to as such, and not as "the Pope".
Not as King, but "Sovereign of the Vatican City State". However, if you mean to use king as synonymous with monarch, than technically the Pope is one. But his formal title is not King of Vatican, but Sovereign of the Vatican City State.
He’s also the only theocratically elected absolute monarch
Continuation on Fun Fact- The Pope isn’t just any king. He’s an absolute king. This makes Vatican City among the small hand full of nations that still have an absolute monarchy as their government on the modern era, which includes Saudi Arabia.

Pope: ,,I'm excommunicating you"
Holy Roman Emperor: ,,You think you can destroy me this way?"
Polish Kingdom: supports the Pope and coronates new ruler
Holy Roman Emperor: ,,Oh, c'mon!"
For a small historical correction King Henry wasn’t requesting the pope a divorce. He was trying to argue with him the marriage was never legal to begin with. There was apparently some sort of old Catholic law that stated that marriage between a man with his brothers widow was illegal.
Henry brought that up to the pope but it didn’t convince him to void the marriage he basically said, “It does not matter that we over looked this law, you said your vows and legally agreed to marry her under god, so the marriage stays.”
@@brandonlyon730 it's also good to mention, that divorce was and still is illegal in Roman Catholicism. What king Henri tried to convince Pope for was void, as you said.

@Wacky Venky that's more or less what the Norman rulers of Sicily did during the Investiture Crisis. A large portion of their population was Muslim, so they were able to draw on them to fight the Pope for the right of the secular authority to appoint bishops.
They lost that conflict, so these rulers were effectively forced to earn back the Pope's favor by fighting in the First Crusade that the Pope called for in order to reunify the Catholic world after the Investiture Crisis conflict.

One of the main reasons for the existence of the Vatican City State is to maintain the autonomy and independence of the Catholic Church, without it being a vehicle of italian state politics. It's something that has been in the forefront of european politics during the last one thousand years, kings and emperors trying to exert power over the church to gain prestige and power.
And they can never take over the Church because Jesus established it, and promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail. Eastern Orthodox can't say the same... and certainly not protestants.

Next time: "Why is San Marino an independent country?"
Reasons!!! 😉
San Marino was originally just a guy who went up into the mountains, seceded from the crumbling Roman Empire and formed his own separatist micro-nation, similar to fringe groups nowadays. He just got lucky that his micro-nation was formally a Catholic republic before that was cool, so the Pope formally recognized them as a legitimate independent nation after the Pope came to prominence. The continual support of the Pope kept them independent for centuries.
They survived Italian Unification because they sheltered Giuseppe Garibaldi for a bit while he was a bit of a fugitive. In repayment for their help, Garibaldi promised them continued independence.
