I collect the cars I like. Majorette, Matchbox, Hotwheels, even unknown Chinese brands (they have really nice 1/32 and 1/24 scale cars). If you're into model cars just buy what you like and enjoy it! That said, I completely understand why ppl are abandoning hotwheels. Finding the less produced ones (which hotwheels deliberately does to create a feeling of scarcity and exclusivity) has turned into a mental illness for many "collectors".

  • @TheTigerQuoll

Hotwheels feed the ugly side of human nature of exclusive possession and are really just a totem to hoard for deeply dissatisfied people.Quality over quantity,Mini GT are really great for the price and i have a feeling they will be ruined in the near future when the hoards catch on to what a great deal they are.

    • @kinocorner976

They are already a ruined brand. Everyone who collects Mini GT are self absorbed douches.
Wait…? People like you and this mouth breather in the video. Taking some moral high ground. Brother, they’re diecast cars. Toys.
Not everyone who collects Hot Wheels go after expensive exclusives. The few annoying scalpers don’t mean the entire community does it. People mod hotwheels, paint them, track them. I’m sure you’re gonna rip open your Mini GT and race them, huh? No. Many people I know enjoy their hot wheels and even have tracks. I’m one.
What will you do with your Mini GTs? Exactly what the “hordes” of unsatisfied people will do, you’ll toss them in blister protectors and stare at them like the goblin you are. You’re gollum and mini GT is your ring. Meanwhile, I’m gonna see if my Night shifter can beat my fast fish on my custom made track. I’ll definitely be “dissatisfied” while this happens too.
You can keep your “quality,” I’m gonna enjoy my quantity.

we should expect MORE from Mattel [Hot Wheels sales 2023 = 1.43 billion U.S. dollars globally] than from Mini GT. Mattel's price margins are ENORMOUS whereas Mini GT's are more reasonable. The cost difference means that MORE of your $$ are going to PROFITS than PRODUCT with Mattel, than in Mini GT or Pop Race, et al. Mattel makes 10 mil/wk or 519 million hot wheels per year. Mini GT in the tens of thousands. Imagine what HW 'could' make, if they operated on the same budget + margins as Mini GT, Pop Race, etc.

Great video. I've been a diecast collector for decades but never really jammed with Hot Wheels. I have a handful of them, but they just never hot the mark on detail. MiniGT has it, though. Since they (and some other brands) showed up in the space, I've added quite a few 1/64 to the collection. They make super nice models.

    1. Grab the JDMs, exotics, and race cars from your favorite miniscales manufacturer.
    2. Grab production cars (that isn't from Japan), classics, and muscle cars from Hot Wheels. They're, imho, better at making classics compared to MGT.
I follow this rule and it makes me happy; no scalper price, gets the best of both worlds.

I only collect older cars (no matter the brand, majorette, tomica, matchbox, hot wheels idc) since it gives me this nostalgic feeling. I guess it's a perk of collecting stuff that people don't really care about, that makes the prices cheaper. I don't collect these kinda cars though, they are too expensive and people "fight" for them all the time, although i would grab one if i ever find a good deal

Only thing is that Mini GT doesnt have as much of a wide variety as Hot Wheels since this is a newer brand and is more for the adult collector than for kids. I promise you that this brand is so worth it. I also made a conscious decision to quit buying hot wheels since the beginning of this year. Enjoy your new Mini GT model my brotha🙏

If you’re not buying premiums it’s 1 dollar vs 22 dollars, yes mini gts are awesome but I can get around 20 hotwheels for the price of that one car. No im not one to buy everything but for a budget friendly collectable that I can also take out and mess around with without worrying about breaking something it’s a good deal for me. Hotwheels have a decent amount of detail for the price, a great amount of detail for the price at that. I have over 1000 mainline hotwheels I’ve collected over the years, some loose, quite a few in the packaging, very few are duplicates. For those to be mini gt it would be 22 time more expensive. Even premiums are only 5 dollars so again Theres a price difference that relates to quality. Both are great theres no wrong way to collect toy cars as long as it makes you happy.

U know, I first got interested in diecast because I wanted to explore custom, I headed to hotwheels because I thought I could get good model materials at a cheap price for my custom project. When I entered the community, I just found out that in the diecast hobby there are a lot of middlemen who like to hold back stock so that it is rare and can be sold at unreasonable prices for 3+ toys. That is really annoying for a hobby (so far I have a hobby of mechanical keyboards and audio gear, when I just wanted to try the diecast hobby, the middleman's game in this hobby made me think twice)
Btw, lately I've noticed that many middlemen are starting to get desperate because of the many restocks and new models that are the same in every different brand, and that makes me satisfied 🤣

I know I'd be less stressed out if my kid suddenly grabs a hold of my hot wheels as compared to my mini gt models. Just look at the spoiler - yes minigt is more detailed and accurate but it looks like it will break by just sneezing at it haha. But the details are still fantastic though, admittedly!

@@HelloMyNameIsAxl and you are absolutely right on this point and this is what i notice a lot of toy reviewers don't point out enough of. You know... I really really love Hot Wheels, but... with the scalper prices of some premium and mainline releases, it's becoming more and more of a hassle to collect. Just last month, a guy in my city grabbed a whole box of Cyberpunk Porsche 930s $10 each, and surprise surprise, they magically popped up for $30 each on local listings site. Recent release of RWB Porsche 930 from Silhouette set also was sold out everywhere, and goes for $30-$40 on second hand market. I'm seriously considering switching to collecting MiniGT, AutoWorld and other 1:64 brands. They're slightly more expensive, but at the same time, the details are much better than HW, and they scale nice, cause most of those brands are true 1:64, while HW is closer to 1:61 and can have really weird proportions. Not to mention, some are cheaper than Hot Wheels. For example, AutoWorld Toyota Supra MK4 costs about $15, you can open the hood.. and the RLC Hot Wheels version costs over $60, and from what I've seen, you can't even close the hood properly on many of them.

You have to remember that at the end of the day, Hot Wheels is just a toy. Mini GT is way more sophisticated. A better choice for adults.
But the Hot Wheels version is very nice. You can put it in your pocket whereas the mini will break the spoiler if you did that.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. MiniGT will never have the following that HWs have among adult collectors and kids. The thing that makes HWs so desirable is that it connects many of us to our own childhood. We buy them more for that reason than to just have something to display on a shelf. I bet you that MiniGT will be out of business within a couple years while HWs and Matchbox will be around for decades.

I started collecting MINI GT two years ago, and the price, quality control, and detail are perfectly balanced compared to Hot Wheels Premium/Elite/RLC. On one hand, I'm happy that more collectors are discovering MINI GT, but on the other hand, I don't want the prices to skyrocket. Regardless, the quality control of HW, especially RLC, is a JOKE.......

Im sorry, but hotwheels all the way. The fact that hotwheels makes you go out and hunt is the exciting factor rather than sitting at your couch tryna preorder a random minigt. Its the fun that we get from these experiences thats why we collect diecast brands that are sold in flagship stores. To address the problem of scalpers, ur pretty much just unlucky. Scalpers are also humans who need time to eat whatsoever and have their own commitments so its impossible for them to constantly be at the stores. You just have to be good at the game. Spectraflame paint is also another thing which is special to hot wheels and makes it stand out, with examples like the chevy c10 RLC giving off a retro and a real collector’s vibe

I love your videos man. You have one hell of a great sense of humor and you are quite entertaining. That all said, I’ll never switch from HW’s. I’m in too deep man. Over 500 premiums collected over 18 years.
I 100% agree though that you simply MUST be selective. You really MUST specialize or you’ll end up with tons of crap you no longer want and cannot get rid of besides using the trash can. I only collect REAL premiums with Real Riders. Not this silver line junk. Also, I only collect U.S. muscle and U.S. pickups. And even then I have almost 500 releases I’m still trying to catch up on going back to the mid to late 90’s!!!
Lastly, I strongly suggest knowing what your display style will eventually be. (I use and recommend wall cases.) Otherwise, you’ll end up with boxes upon boxes of cars in the closet, under the bed, or in the cellar or attic. If that’s your case then you must ask yourself, what was/is the point? If you cannot look at them and enjoy them on demand then you will almost certainly lose interest and/or just burn out.
That’s my two cents. Thanks for your videos. I appreciate them and your content is getting more and more known and liked by fellow collectors.

I love all of the people trying to justify buying these over HWs, 😂😂😂. HWs will always be more popular as a collectible than any other 1:64ish die cast, with MB being close behind. The reason is that you can buy them for so much less than brands like MiniGT, Greenlight, Jada, and other brands that start at $6-7 each. You can blame scalpers for ruining things, but part of the fun is hunting for the ones you like and finding them. If you just happen to want a particular model really badly, then paying a little extra and buying it on eBay Isn’t all that bad. Most of the time you will still pay less for a mainline than you would on something like a MiniGT, even with shipping and handling. And for those that keep saying that MiniGT is for “real collectors” and HWs are just toys, just WTF makes someone a “real collector”. I am pretty sure if you collect something you like, that makes you a “real collector”. And HWs also have a deep connection with most of us that collect them now, especially those of us that grew up playing with the original Sweet 16 and early redlines. HWs will always be popular and there will always be those that collect them. Most of these newer brands will never reach the popularity that HWs (and Matchbox) has and many will simply go out of business. But hey,to each his own. You can collect whatever you like.

Yet there is zero chance that a MiniGT will ever be worth more than it cost, most likely they will only decrease in value. Not all HWs will be super collectibles, but many will increase in price because of the fact it is a HW and the history of the brand.

Please define a “real collector” to me. People collect many things for many reasons and saying that someone that collects HWs Isn’t a “real collector” I just BS. Too many people in the comment section are trying to justify the higher price of Mini GT by saying the very thing you are saying. HWs have a sentimental connection with many that collect them, especially those of us from Gen X who grew up playing with the original Sweet 16 and having many redlines. In some ways HWs have gone downhill since those days, but in some ways they have improved a lot. I know that you said you prefer HWs and MBs yourself, but I cannot agree with your statement that “real collectors” don’t collect HWs.

Premium HW are collector's products just as MiniGT are, perhaps not always the same collectors but there's going to be significant overlap. There's no more valid comparison than two versions of the same thing. For my part I feel HW's quality ought to be higher, based on how long they've been making diecasts and how much money they must have invested in the technology, compared to a relatively young company like MiniGT.

Things are worth as much as someone is willing to pay, and that is true with anything. And for some people that live in more rural areas, being able to buy a particular model on eBay is very practical and the only way they will ever get it. The biggest cost with buying from eBay these days is the shipping cost. I do customs and sell them on eBay and over the last couple years there have been several price increases in the shipping. It used to cost me as little as $3 to ship a custom mainline, now it is almost always over $5. Plus the cost of the boxes has gone way up. I could buy boxes in bulk that came out to be between 0.25-0.30 a piece, now it is almost a dollar for most of the boxes.
