I appreciate this introduction by Dr. Olaf Peterson, as it emphasizes how Max Beckman’s art reflected and commented upon difficult socio-political conditions of his era. The allegories, scenes from everyday life, and grotesque depictions of social interactions appear both timeless and linked to concrete circumstances.
