Egon Schiele: Living Landscapes
Plants, natural environments, and townscapes determine the spaces Egon Schiele (1890-1918) created in his paintings, and they also reflect the rich symbolism he employed that is centered around the human condition. In particular, plants are often endowed with an allegorical meaning. Flowers and trees assume the role of portrait subjects and convey an almost human appearance. Schiele’s landscapes always represent more than their apparent subject matter. His portrayal of nature and his rendering of towns and trees epitomize the life cycle and the human condition. “Egon Schiele: Living Landscapes” investigates the importance of landscape in the Austrian artist’s work.

Why is provenance important? (SCHOLASTIC)
The first part was all over the place regarding this or that mansion-owner, etc., but when he centered on the Miller family, that's when it started to get interesting. Perhaps I'm not the only one who wondered how much the YIVO Institute purchased the mansion for (following the death of owner Grace Vanderbilt)...? I visited this museum in the early 2000s and it's magnificent - inside and out.
Fabulous
My legs are twisting
I love Mr Schiele work. I also agree 100% with all he says about nature, flowers, trees, birds, insects... I'm blown away by their unique "sense of purpose", "innocence" and "powerful communication - teaching skills". Thank you NEUE GALERIE NY for this Exhibition. Best Wishes 🙋
Those red walls are obscene.
Thanks to the President's Circle for their generous donations. The private gallery really succeeds in showing the depth of Austrian and German Expressionism in the beginning of the 20 Century! What a wonderful collection! Do you need an intern?
Thank You so Much for this brilliant video🎉❤. Cape Town
🥰🥰🥰
Klimt was talented beyond belief.
Great Museum!
Stunning exhibition. I wish I had seen this.
Egon Schiele: Living Landscapes 1206pm 5.11.24 gradually Schiele is chipping away at my distaste for his work... Klimt's obviously worth your time. well done!!!
This video is wonderful. I knew about his self-portraits and portraits, but not his landscapes. They're equally moving. 💕
I'd never before seen Schiele's work in situ. It was grand to see them together on a wall and let the size of the piece sink in - some were surprisingly large, others surprisingly small. It would be a fantastic thing to stand in front of them, seeing the actual marks.
Breathtaking art. What a wonderfully informative presentation. Thank you.
I really need to get to that museum, but I am always distracted by the Met when I'm in New York. Is it very accessible to the disabled? On a barely related sidenote, his figural paintings remind me of Frank Miller's Joker in the Dark Knight Returns.
Can I just listen to the fucking music
And why the fuck can we not just see this art? Why has nobody ever bothered to show this music? I’m gonna bet you can even find a list in online
I saw the painting in Vienna at the Belvedere. I'll never forget the thrill I felt when I saw it!
❤
Thank you for this video!
Schiele equated the natural world with death
shouldn't it be in austria?
Very informative video. I went to Neue Galerie and saw the Schiele's show. This show give us the opportunity to see the rare and wonderful art works in one place .
A wonderful description of Schiele's life and works...Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion❤
Egon Schiele: Living Landscapes 5.11.24 1213pm nature doesn't give a damn, though...
This is very badly edited - but you can slow it down to quarter speed.
wonderful !
Thank you for these rare paintings of Schiele. Never seen them before and it's a real piece of art. There is a direct line between Dürer, Altdorfer and Schiele. Thanx again.
What a fantastic collection and well done to all that helped create it. I'm particularly impressed by the quality of the visuals here: they bring Schiele's landscapes to life, more so than the book on Schiele that I read recently. If only I had the money to pop over to New York to see the exhibition!
Not sure how to view his "landscape". Human centric but, I wish he had lived long enough to "mature". Love to see his vision as an old man fascinated by gardening or bird watching. About a year ago I was introduced to his work by just a few landscapes. They fascinated me enough to buy the book. I was disappointed to see the majority were architecture. Now his entire portfolio is impressive. It seems he is severely underrated. But what do I know, I like animal painting.
Beautiful gallery. Very nice wofks
Or marks 😮
Egon stands on own ,thy print of his brush is thy soul thanks Egon Schiele ,sweet sleep😴
A kind thanks I am most grateful for this wonderful video 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😃
Great vid
Fantastic
How did this brilliant genius create so many masterpieces in such a short life!
No cell phone or internet.
8:41 . . gracias a todos por this vision. . .
I didn't get Schiele in my earlier years of becoming an artist. Then about 30 years ago I saw an exhibition of drawings by him at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the way he conveyed flesh amazed me. Somehow as scratchy as his drawings were the skin and flesh seemed so realistic. It was like an enlightenment when it hit. And his art is so interesting to me now.
I like the bold colors of the exhibit walls showcasing the works beautifully. So much better than boring white walls. Good job on this exhibit showcasing such a tormented artist .
how sorry i am to miss this exhibition. Cried my heart out last time in Neue Galerie in 2018, with excitement. my favorite artist by far
Schiele takes to a place no other artist does. Thankyou Neue Gallery🙏🏼
My top five painters right now that I'm studying and enjoying (and have been for 40+ years) are still Schiele, Klimt, Kline, Kiefer, and, most recently, Van Gogh. Wonderful video!
It is likely that Schiele would have known of Van Gogh's sunflower paintings, and perhaps was reacting to them when he pursued his own artistic renderings of that subject.
Put Edvard Munch in that group
Wounderful paintings , Many I have not seen before ,Thank you very much for posting . I have always love this period .
wonderful; wunderbar Wound - injure/scar, physically or emotionally.
After viewing this I think, perhaps, the pupil Egon may have surpassed the master, Gustav.
Klimt's art is highly decorative in nature, while Schiele's art seems more inward looking and emotional--more personal, if you will.
Bro Klimt bites his dust , everyone knows that. Gustav Klimt is just more famous, cause Egon was a bit of a nons wasn't he? 😄
They’re two distinctly different artists. Schiele, more expressive, while Klimt interested in the surface and decorative elements. But don’t get it twisted, Klimt’s work and his rebellion of the status quo paved the way for Schiele to do what he did. Both artists are absolutely brilliant.
Such a wonderful portrait! I am devastated by the difficult history of this work of art, but so pleased it was rescued and is preserved now by your Galerie!
The story of how this painting got to the USA is fascinating. Stunning painting.
It's a beautiful painting. I'd love to see it in person sometime. At the risk of being controversial, if the aim is to restore Vienna's cultural heritage then shouldn't the painting be on display in Vienna and not New York? I understand the history involving it's theft by the Nazis but the Nazis are long gone now. Shouldn't the painting be returned to its national and cultural home?
The heart and the artistic genius of man share a common language: the harmony of sound and music. It's a heritage from the dawn of time that will live on into eternity Yé Lassina Coulibaly
I saw the movie about this masterpiece and learn about its history.
