  • You should check out the Guyanese-owned Value Fresh Market on Jamaica Avenue in NYC, where lots of Guyanese products, like fish, packet spices, cooked food and bottled items are available. The Value Fresh Market, is the home of the Little Guyana Bake Shop, that has two other branches on Liberty Avenue. The owner, ‘Boyee’ who was more than happy to give us a tour, said there is a huge market fresh produce, like cassava, bora and other vegetables. He hopes that soon vegetables can be imported from Guyana because the taste is much better. He uses 100 boxes of cassava every month for his three stores and his bakery, while he sells about 15 to 20 boxes of bora every week. We were impressed with how neat and well organized the supermarket was. He took us mainly to the sections where the Guyanese items are displayed. He also has a section where he puts items on sale.
Located at the back of the supermarket, is the Little Guyana Bake Shop, where a variety of sweet and salted snacks were showcased. The owner also lamented that he produced the tastiest salt sev/chicken food. He gave us a pack and after trying it, we had to agree with him.
