Used to go through those crossings twice a day 5 days a week from 1982- 2002. I remember that the crossing gate was manually operated and sometimes the gate didn’t go up fast enough. The same routine every morning
Long Island City was the original terminal of the LIRR. Passengers going to Manhattan took ferry boats across the East River. The original LIRR ran from Long Island City to Greenport. Passengers going to Boston would take the ferry across Great South Bay to Stonington, CT. and change to train there. Info. from Wikipedia and other sources.
Nothing can compare to Pingpong coaches, gray with orange trim, the Dashing Commuter and owl eye windows. Those old MUs that used to roar out of the ground on Atlantic Ave.
its on a sharp curve its a railroad crossing in long island city plus its approaching the station from both directions Hunterspoints and LIC are really close stations
I’m extremely new to LIRR rolling stock, but could someone explain to me why the DE30 is on one end of the C3 cars ? Does it have to do with certain routes not being electrified? Thanks In advance !
I'm not personally 100% sure, but if a train is shorter, a C3 would be at the end for a return trip. If the train is longer (8+ cars or so), another locomotive would be at the back. I've always wondered if the C3's have their own engines or it siphons power from the locomotive, but I think it has its own engines if it only is at the back of shorter trains.
Wouldn't have cost Less to buy DMU cars for the unelecticfied sections,or even battery powered cars? The cars above must be labor intensive to operate and maintain. What happened to the M9 coaches that were supposed to be for non electric branches?
They should build a platform for the long island railroad train to stop at the kingshighway subway station that the mta new york city subway F train stops
99% of the branches that are used for these tracks are Montauk, Oyster Bay and Port Jefferson Branches, with one electric train, the 5:29pm Hunterspoint Avenue to Ronkonkoma train, which mainly are M7s.
LIRR stops in three terminals in New York City. Brooklyn Station (used to be called Flatbush Ave). Long Island City (a.k.a. Hunters Point station -- very near this video spot), and Penn station. All three lines go to Jamaica, Queens. They will soon be joined by a fourth Eastern Terminus, Grand Central (deep below existing Grand Central Station).
Maybe they only need trains to LI city station during Peak hours due to ridership issues and forcing passengers to use the nearby Hunterspoint ave station
Which are the tracks to Hunterspoint Station on this video or is this further down the Montauk line? I wish they would run a fan trip from LIC to Jamaica Station on the old Montauk right of way.
If you note the switches under the big red bridge, that's where the route from HP Av and the downgraded Montauk line from Jamaica via Richmond Hill merge, just before entering LIC. To get your bearings, on all the push-pull sets, the driving trailer is facing West, towards LIC, and the diesel locomotive is facing East, towards HP Av. \m/
Hunters Point is where the Ringling Brothers Circus Train would stop and unload, they may have walked over that crossing as they head through the 34th street midtown tunnel. You can also see the Empire State Building in the distance which is located on 34th street in Manhattan Island [NYC} we have video of some of the unloading there.

And what you mean with other sources? When did you saw that ulinformation on Wikipédia? Anyone can change it
Nice copy paste but I kinda already knew that
There were RDCs in service then...
...Great South Bay to Stonington, CT...i don't think so.
I think you meant Long Island Sound
Does the mta new york city subway D train go to a neighborhood that is called buster avenue
Hey theres that M9 Kawasaki that going to Huntington
Could be due to a lack of cab beacons causing the train to default to a slow speed.

I love the first railroad crossing! Very old Safetran incandescent lights
I'd love to see a two mile long freight pass through here X-D
Felice Graziano it cant because the track ends right here
lol
The mta new york city subway should go to boston
Cool video but the trains are going at a painfully slow speed.
its on a sharp curve its a railroad crossing in long island city plus its approaching the station from both directions Hunterspoints and LIC are really close stations
Yes, Lionel trains are MUCH faster. 🚂🚃🚃🚃......
@@lescobrandon3047 lionel trains are 30x smaller than these
Will Long Island City and Hunterspoint Avenue still be in use after East Side Access opens?
That has not been designed to open, but instead to line pockets for fifty years.
LIC will still be open.
Hunterspoint Avenue LIRR should serve as a train-watching site.

@@rollback27 The C3 draws it's power from the DE30. But one engine can only power 6 cars, so for 7+ cars it take 2 Engines.
Great video! Hope you can do some more driver views soon!

The mta new york city subway G train should operate on the long island railroad from Atlantic avenue
Awesome video.
Nice
What branch of the LIRR uses these tracks???

Why is it so hard to get into the LIRR job wise I mean ?
55 minutes. New❗️
The long island railroad train should go to staten island
Why is the long Island City stop only used during rush hour?
During off peak they go to penn
NYCT Enthusiast I get that but why isn’t it used off peak?
Maybe they only need trains to LI city station during Peak hours due to ridership issues and forcing passengers to use the nearby Hunterspoint ave station
NYCT Enthusiast that station is used during rush hour only too I think

The long island railroad train should go to avenue j on the new york Q subway line
Multilevel cars that are nearly single level height. Look miserable.
L.I.C Station is Barely ever Used like that.
