@Irunwitha hatchet twoset didn't really roast the bass any worse than they did classical instruments. they actually respect (almost) all classical instruments, no matter how much they roast them. the only instrument they really can't praise is the triangle. watch them roast the viola, but they actually want the viola in a quartet and said it sounds empty without a viola. what they said about the bass was like a gentle nudge in comparison. however, i have no doubt that they have a bias for violin, but it's a perfectly understandable bias, since the skill ceiling and barrier for violin is actually much higher than most instruments.
@Irunwitha hatchet actually, the solution is simple in research methods. you take a sample of 100 beginners and assign them to a bass or a violin. record their progress for a statistically significant measurement of the skill barrier of each instrument. *alternatively, you can also take 100 samples of intermediate to advanced players in addition, if you have a valid category of ranked pieces.* instrument difficulty is an empirically provable measurement, and has also been passed on through hearsay without the need of actual studies. i am not trying to "diss" any instrument, as "easier" instruments can sound "better". however, i am a factual person, and the difficulty of instruments is a reality when we exclude god-sent prodigies from the equation. different instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, violin, etc.) sound better to me in different songs. I don't believe I even have a favorite instrument. However, i hate the "subjectivity" argument ppl throw out for no reason. I believe in subjectivity, but only when it is actually true that we have no current method to measure objectively. of the hundreds of instruments in existence, their difficulty levels are not purely subjective. it is 100% possible to test their difficulty if one wanted to, in an empirical way (with prodigies excluded, ofc).
@Irunwitha hatchet unfortunately, if we did it as you described, the study would be measuring how beginners compare against each other (and davie), with davie's skill as a target/constant. it does not measure the difficulty of the instrument, and the research should not be published as one measuring instrument difficulty. in addition, if you wish to use davie, we have to first acquire info on how long he played, his education, quality of education, etc. we also have to categorize davie to know if he is a genius, prodigy, or just a hard worker. now, if we tweak your study, we can use davie's rifflines, but basically, we would use his rifflines as a control factor in the original study i proposed. i said i wasn't trying to diss any instrument, so why are you reciting davie's quotes, reciting davie's signature lines, and randomly throwing out invalid studies in a tantrum? in fact, why do you seem offended? either 1 instrument or the other will be more difficult to the general public. It is like being offended if someone said a tennis ball is lighter than a basketball. nobody insulted either tennis or basketball, and nobody said they liked tennis or basketball better. it's just the truth that one will be lighter than the other. there is no reason to feel offended and ask people to serve 6 aces in a row, and if they can't, "checkmate" them. in fact, "checkmate" is davie's comedy content. it makes no sense in our conversation at all. davie uses checkmate both in and out of context, for comedy.

I really enjoy this "war", but friendly reminder to everyone that violin and bass are two different instruments that were meant to evoke almost polar opposite emotions. They aren't really comparable.
You are selling both instruments short I feel. Both instruments invoke many emotions in me atleast. All instruments serve a purpose in their genres and the arrangement of the band. It's literally a very subjective questions. Very personal. What is better to you/for you. I love bass. I don't like the standard violin. I liked the Erhu much better. But being a musician I can respect someone practicing 40-69 hrs a day to do what they love.
The thing with sheet music is if there is a copy of the music somewhere, the music can be revived even if everyone has forgotten how to play it... also we use sheet music to learn the piece and memorize it later for performances. Some of the huge violinist (Hilary Hahn, Pearlman, etc) can play who know how many 30-40 min concertos on the spot
i always think it's a collab. davie and twoset are both flippant-comedy kinds of people, so "normal" collab is too boring for them. so they choose something more fun, which suits their personality more

@Irunwitha hatchet twoset didn't really roast the bass any worse than they did classical instruments. they actually respect (almost) all classical instruments, no matter how much they roast them. the only instrument they really can't praise is the triangle. watch them roast the viola, but they actually want the viola in a quartet and said it sounds empty without a viola. what they said about the bass was like a gentle nudge in comparison.
however, i have no doubt that they have a bias for violin, but it's a perfectly understandable bias, since the skill ceiling and barrier for violin is actually much higher than most instruments.

@Irunwitha hatchet actually, the solution is simple in research methods. you take a sample of 100 beginners and assign them to a bass or a violin. record their progress for a statistically significant measurement of the skill barrier of each instrument. *alternatively, you can also take 100 samples of intermediate to advanced players in addition, if you have a valid category of ranked pieces.* instrument difficulty is an empirically provable measurement, and has also been passed on through hearsay without the need of actual studies.
i am not trying to "diss" any instrument, as "easier" instruments can sound "better". however, i am a factual person, and the difficulty of instruments is a reality when we exclude god-sent prodigies from the equation.
different instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, violin, etc.) sound better to me in different songs. I don't believe I even have a favorite instrument. However, i hate the "subjectivity" argument ppl throw out for no reason. I believe in subjectivity, but only when it is actually true that we have no current method to measure objectively.
of the hundreds of instruments in existence, their difficulty levels are not purely subjective. it is 100% possible to test their difficulty if one wanted to, in an empirical way (with prodigies excluded, ofc).
@Irunwitha hatchet unfortunately, if we did it as you described, the study would be measuring how beginners compare against each other (and davie), with davie's skill as a target/constant. it does not measure the difficulty of the instrument, and the research should not be published as one measuring instrument difficulty.
in addition, if you wish to use davie, we have to first acquire info on how long he played, his education, quality of education, etc. we also have to categorize davie to know if he is a genius, prodigy, or just a hard worker.
now, if we tweak your study, we can use davie's rifflines, but basically, we would use his rifflines as a control factor in the original study i proposed.
i said i wasn't trying to diss any instrument, so why are you reciting davie's quotes, reciting davie's signature lines, and randomly throwing out invalid studies in a tantrum?
in fact, why do you seem offended? either 1 instrument or the other will be more difficult to the general public. It is like being offended if someone said a tennis ball is lighter than a basketball. nobody insulted either tennis or basketball, and nobody said they liked tennis or basketball better.
it's just the truth that one will be lighter than the other. there is no reason to feel offended and ask people to serve 6 aces in a row, and if they can't, "checkmate" them.
in fact, "checkmate" is davie's comedy content. it makes no sense in our conversation at all. davie uses checkmate both in and out of context, for comedy.

You are selling both instruments short I feel. Both instruments invoke many emotions in me atleast. All instruments serve a purpose in their genres and the arrangement of the band. It's literally a very subjective questions. Very personal. What is better to you/for you. I love bass. I don't like the standard violin. I liked the Erhu much better. But being a musician I can respect someone practicing 40-69 hrs a day to do what they love.

The thing with sheet music is if there is a copy of the music somewhere, the music can be revived even if everyone has forgotten how to play it... also we use sheet music to learn the piece and memorize it later for performances. Some of the huge violinist (Hilary Hahn, Pearlman, etc) can play who know how many 30-40 min concertos on the spot
