    I find my mood is lifted when I am surrounded by nature, especially trees, listening to birds singing or being near water. I love listening to the sound of the sea and I have a night light which has different nature sounds and I use at night.

    I have Aspergers, and I’ve been depressed for the past two weeks. I’m 36 years old, unemployed and still living with my Dad (who can’t stand me because I give him stress that triggers his heart problems. He had two stents installed in his heart this past summer). I have no driver’s license to go anywhere and I don’t have a life, and I’m not fully independent (I depend on my Dad to get me food, clothes, shelter, etc.)! I really don’t have much of a life. I feel like I let God and my family down! I just feel terrible! I would go in the gym to get in shape and curb depression if I had money for membership, but I don’t! Does being depressed make me a selfish person? Sorry for this very long comment, I just had to vent!

      Get a job and hoard money while you’re still living at home. By age 38-39 you could save 30-40k. Then, get a gym membership and sculpt your body. Your depression will be much more manageable if you got money, dependable car and inshape body.

      Volunteer to do something. I had a go at that (in my case collecting tickets that turned into doing lighting at a volunteer-run arts theatre) and it worked well - stayed with it for a decade. Loved being part of a good cause, being useful (adequate and eventually a star at my job) and also being part of a tribe/“family” there. Not “paid”, apart from food expenses, but don’t let that put you off, it’s not like doing a boring soul-for-money job.

      I'm similar age and in a similar situation, and also asd. Just try your best and bare in mind you're not alone, there's others out there in the same position. I also don't have a license and don't really know why, I can drive, but it just seems like a massive hurdle to get the license. Being dependent and under/unemployed at this age can be really frustrating, boring and depressing. Autism is not a character flaw, its a developmental disorder. You haven't let your family down for what you can't control, and you haven't let God down, God created you and he doesn't want everyone to be the same.

    First, let me say that this was the BEST video you've created, IMO.
    I have a strange suggestion from my experiences...
    When I am depressed, and really stuck resisting doing basic things like showering, I put on a podcast while doing the task. It seems to be enough of a distraction from my internal negative thinking. It has been so effective that now pressing play on a podcast functions like a start button, just start by getting up!
    I would love to see research supporting why this kind of strategy works.
    You are making a difference! All the Best.

    I’m feeling really sad and out of hope, I want to be more positive - as so many traumatic events have occurred; I can’t help being either angry or upset. I have dopamine dys-regulation due to ASD/ADD - and further PTSD. I have tried a-z antidepressants (adverse affects) and instead use other medication, but every time I go outside I find I often find it hard to get “the most” out it - I just see litter and mess and human grossness, even amongst nature - go to the shops and people are aggressive towards me. I’m not sure how to engage with the outside world anymore. It feels unsafe and sad.

      you can look torwards your interest and find facebook groups or local groups that participate in your inerest you can find friends their but also with the people who are "not like you"
      Brene Brown has great teachings on vulnerability and going through rejection and allowing yourself to feel negative emotions Is the key to feeling positive emothions more often. Be a good person and don't let hatred and rejection change you. Because bitterness will destroy your before sadness. get into hip hop become a rapper Hip Hop = Higher and infinite power healing our people . Express yourself through rap write songs about how you feel to release the emotions learn to freestyle yes you can become good at this. Just be patient with yourself just continue to say one word and a phrase and a word that rhymes with the first one. Like this my name is DEXTER they say its not and i'm like WHATEVER lol also I have good artist you can listen to they will let you know there are people they truly care about mankind. I'm pretty sure your mind is thinking that everyone is selfish. This isn't a judgement. These are the Artist ruclips.net/user/AkalaOfficialChannel ruclips.net/channel/UCkUMk5PAKx2DHRYzfr8i4AA Also get into different hobbies like sports or video games become stronger and empower yourself and get better by just doing ( don't over think it or exert extra effort and accept yourself and don't try to improve your flaws) and trust the process.
      If you feel that you can't accept yourself now improve yourself to a certain level only and then put yourself into situations in which you don't know the outcome/ vulnerability.

I have unfortunately gotten frustrated and upset with him because he hasn’t opened up to me enough but I realized the reason he hasn’t is because I don’t understand his problems fully because I don’t have them. Right now he’s at a very bad point and he just now finally said so himself. I already knew he was struggling because he told me but he kept saying he was fine. I have discovered those steps along my journey too plus music and dancing. This last month was hard for me too. Depression hit mit so hard, almost out of no where. I think I crashed mentally basically from watching all the political news on MSNBC , regular news, tragedies and impeachment hearings and obsessively to try “understand” what the heck is going on in the world. Ugh, it’s frustrating trying to wrap your mind around what is happening in the world. I am using the technics you talked about except walking out in nature, which will be my next step. Right now I am working on compassion vs empathy. I realized I was using empathy instead of compassion. Empathy alone was Literally making me sick because I would just absorb the stories of pain and then mirror that pain in my body, I become their pain, that is not at all helpful. But with compassion there is a boundry and respect for the other, you don’t become them by joining in their pain. Compassion you express into action - caring by doing - like you do with your videos. I am concentrating on the Buddhist saying you can’t have a lotus without mud, that is the fertile ground upon which it grows. You also can’t have a lotus without sunshine or water or the right environment. I am assuming in the political world we are all in the mud right now and that is all we see. But someday there will be a Lotus, in the right environment.

    My partner has mild Asperger's and has some years ago began to suffer from depression. His depression has lasted for almost 3 years and some months ago got worsened. He is possessive and never like other people to touch or flirt with me even if it's accidental. He saw me as part of him and if I got touched, he would feel very uncomfortable and be sulky about it for much longer time than an average person. He would remember the incident vividly and many of these incidents have added up to his depression. He just never seem to get well. He refused to do therapy but he took antidepressiom from the psychiatrist as he thinks that these people won't help. I am so helpless I can only watch him getting into depression deeper and deeper each day and he started to show signs of hurting himself by banging the wall or hurting himself with items. He said he did this to stop himself from going into the depression abyss so that he can stay rational. He said he have two voices arguing in his head all the time. One talking shat about me and one defending me. I really at the verge of breaking down seeing him like this everytime. Can anyone help me?
    Btw he has quite a high IQ and therefore it's very hard to convince him to relax or etc. He ha

    Sometimes I find it too hard to cook when I'm depressed but I keep a fairly strict paleo diet. A new practice I've recently adopted for working 14 hour shifts could be applied to depressive episodes. Every Sunday, I cook enough food for the whole week. I leave some out for that night and the next day. I freeze the rest of it in portions. Then all I have to do is thaw it out and heat it up the rest of the week. Most people can manage using the microwave when depressed, this allows you to still eat healthy but not put so much energy in to cooking every single night in a time when everything seems so exhausting.

I’ve gotten used to doing the same stuff over and over again and I’m kinda in the mood for something new. But I also need an escape for when I’m angry. I call being angry and depressed at the same time dangry or Sangry (sad and angry). Currently I’ve been cycling between this neutral and angry depressed state and I wanna get out of it. So I’m gonna buy myself a guitar for an outlet for my feelings. Honestly, I’ve had a lot of emotional stress lately so I’m gonna try and look up more ways to relieve it. Thanks Dan for this video. Talk to a psychologist about it, don't ask advice from strangers on the internet. This video is aimed at autistic adults. I hope your grandson gets better, my suicidal thoughts only began when I was 13 years-old. On the brightside I'm 31 now, so it doesn't mean the person will act on those thoughts. Its just our reaction to not understand emotional pain, we can't handle the pain and senses sometime, emotions and physical sensations mixing up in the brain. But get a professional to work with the child and the family, they will be able to ask the right questions and actually help.

    • @Sarah.lux.
      @Sarah.lux. 5 лет назад

      Ah, I forgot to mention. Maybe he is repeating something he heard somewhere else (tv, internet, etc.), your grandson might not understand what are the implications of what he's saying. it could be ecolalia (I don't know how it's spelled, I wrote in my language), many people on the Spectrum repeat sounds or sentences they heard somewhere else.

    Depression needs to last for at least 6 months to be called that

    • @someonecausticandignorant
      @someonecausticandignorant 5 лет назад +2

      I think you mean *clinical* depression requires six months for there to be a diagnosis. That said, anyone - even when coinciding with positive feelings or life-events - can get depressed. It's generally a physical mind-body response caused by external influences that are diagnostically irrelevant to the condition. In that case, it's kind of an adjective more than anything else and isn't necessarily long-term.
      However, clinical depression is caused by an ongoing chemical imbalance (often with an ambiguous or undetectable psychological source) that generates feelings of depression independently from external influences, personal mood, or life-events. It's not the same thing as just feeling depressed, but both are very valid & concerning situations that should be taken seriously in every way. Especially for those of us on the autism spectrum where these feelings become obsessive and we start to fixate on it almost recreationally in ways that are comparable to self-harm behavior. Please be careful saying things like that, it could make those affected by either circumstance feel self-conscious in ways that are toxic and detrimental to their personal growth.
      Full-disclaimer: I am not a psychiatric professional, this is a very general description I wrote to the best of my knowledge and experience (I'm HFA with clinical-depression) so I'm sure I've gotten a few minor things wrong. Please take it with a grain of salt.
