  • We are on our summer holiday in our Volkswagen Crafter Self Build Camper Van, touring through France and in this video we visit Lake Annecy. There's one small problem at Lake Annecy and it's real shame. Let us know if you've been and how was it when you visited?

No matter where in the world you travel to France will always be up there at the top of the list, its a country that has it all, great beaches, mountains and lakes, gorgeous little cafes and restaurants, nice roads to drive on too, a very Motorhome/campervan friendly country, we have just come back from 5 weeks in France/switzerland , we were right by were you filmed all of this, we never experienced any midges while we were there about a month ago

As a local (we live higher up near Morzine in Haute-Savoie) this Summer has been the wettest since we came to live in France and that's almost certainly why you had the experience that you did with the bugs. It's been absolutely extraordinary at times. We love a day trip over to Annecy - it's absolutely gorgeous and so sorry you had the experience marred.
Best tip is to head higher to escape the insects - if you're not put off, there's some spectacular campsites in the Chamonix valley and you can get cable cars up to get the views and do balcony-type hikes with the kids.

It is a gorgeous area! On site there were no bugs at all just around the centre near the water. What a place to live! Gorgeous!

Fondue is life! I am American but I have lived in some very European based areas - Slavic, Swiss, German, Italian and Spanish influences abound.

    Van looking great.
When we passed by Lake Annecy we couldn’t understand why it is so popular. The road along west side of lake was just a long traffic jam, and we were bursting for a pee😂 and couldn’t see any public facilities to stop at. We preferred the peace and quiet up in the mountains. In our Hilux and roof top tent on that trip.

It's a 12 month tourist attraction and, because of it, it's always overfilled..., damm tourists😂!!
The hassel of it all is well worth it though, the old town is really beautiful and carries the name "little Venice"

Just found you here and admire you doing this sort of thing with TWO babies, I might have tried with one, many years ago, but never with two! I'm retired and divorced now, so I have the pleasure of travelling with my own timetable and can do this sort of place during the quieter times. Annecy is an all year round tourist attraction, and is virtually always over populated with tourists, especially on sunny days. I've been 3 times, once in Spring, in Summer, and in Winter, but don't ever remember the flies. A good and short account of your stay here, with some good pictures. See ya in your next offering.

Love the scenery, looks well cosy in the van when it's raining.
    The children are so well-behaved.
I'm looking forward to the next rollicking adventure.
    Keep safe Kev

We spent 5 days at Annecy in June this year, the old town is very beautiful, as is the lake and surrounding area, but yes, those flies on the bridge and next to the river were very annoying, couldn't believe the number of people eating there.

"why's it always raining..." that's coz you're English, and the rain always follows you when you leave, so you don't get homesick!

One doesn't eat Fondue in a tourist place... 1, because it's overprised and 2, It's rarely how a "proper" Fondue should be. My credentials are..., I live in Switzerland with a Fondue mad family and therefore have a bit of experience in these matters. And btw, I have also eaten in that beautiful restaurant, pity the menu is not as good as the inner decor!.
