For me, the tempo is just about right. And the finesse of the playing in the last minute or so is stunning.

I just heard this piece for the countless time without knowing who or what, but the melody kept haunting me. I actively searched for two hours and finally found it. It's beautiful!

il ne s'approprie pas Satie, il ne restitue avec un intensité merveilleuse..j'adore.
Splendidement joué ! Bien que ce morceau de Satie soit simple de partition, il n'est pas donné au commun des mortels de le jouer de cette manière magique, onirique, l'expression des sentiments ressentis lorsqu'on joue ce morceau est vital. Merci Monsieur Tharaud

Long familiar with Satie's Gymnopedies, I only recently discovered this agonizingly beautiful and wistful melody. After listening to several interpretations, I have to agree that M. Charaud's easily surpasses all others. Cést magnifique!

Tharaud me scie les jambes à chaque fois que je l'écoute - c'est sans doute cliché cette façon que j'ai de comprendre son interprétation, mais il semble doué d'une empathie fantastique pour saisir à ce point des émotions dans son jeu.

The music identification feature in the Google app is great. My DM uses this piece often in our DnD campaign so it gets stuck in my head a lot, but they could never figure out which of the pieces it was when I asked about it. Finally did a weird but similar enough rendition of it today that the app managed to match to this. Now I'm happy, this is absolutely magical

A delicate interpretation of great Tharaud. Don't want to sound mainstream follower by praising Tharaud, but when it deals with him we have to be very careful for we are speaking of one of the best pianists of our times : just listen to his Ravel if have any doubt. Anyway, got the habit of hearing the bizarre and beautiful gnossienes by Pascal Rogé and keep liking them too, so, can and will recommend both accounts..

It's a nice enough interpretation of the piece, but the staging is silly. Did he do an actual performance for an audience with backlighting and a screen displaying an extremely tight closeup of his face? Or was it just for the video? Perhaps a bit of dry ice smoke could have been added to complete the effect.

Acordes soprados pelos anjos. Óbvio que fui remetida à "O despertar de uma paixão" (título no Brasil) e Gymnopedie.
Cette mise en scène rassemble tous les clichés romantiques contre lesquels Satie a écrit sa musique : lustres bourgeois + effets de lumières + pianiste surjouant son interprétation avec le visage tendu pour rendre chaque note super bouleversante + vidéo kitsch intégrant des images de partitions... Tout l'inverse de l'esprit ironique et distancié de Satie, où la mélancolie naît justement d'une légère froideur et de l'effacement. Au lieu de chercher à développer grandement dans ses compositions comme le fait toute son époque (Wagner), Satie s'efface face au pouvoir fragile d'une atmosphère. L'interprète devrait en faire autant, mais la capacité de s'effacer n'est pas donnée à tout le monde.
Au contraire je trouve que Alexandre Tharaud donne une interprétation très juste de cette Gnossienne. Après on peut sûrement en redire de la mise en scène mais il a très bien compris Erik Satie, il en fait jamais trop.
Vous devriez mettre en ligne votre interprétation de ce morceau pour que l'on voit et écoute comment il faut le jouer.
c'est vrai que les effets vidéo sont ringards. Je ne pouvais pas le regarder, en fait. mais j'aime bien son timing - certains le traînent trop lentement, pour améliorer une qualité méditative ou pour l'accélérer un peu, cela ressemble donc à de la musique pour un exercice de danse de gymnastique. .
La critique est aisée...

N'est pas facile trouver la meilleure interprétation !

non justement Ayse Melrose, c'est le seul qui joue cette gnossienne comme un enfant, et c'est ce que demandait Satie. Ici il ne faut pas être pianiste, juste appuyer sur les touches sans chercher à montrer qu'on sait jouer du piano.
