yup even at first there were many negative talking about casting, the remake of an anime low budget movie and such. But to see the trailer had gone 2 Million views in just a day, maybe there is hype, but the most important is how the 2017 movie will be relative to the anime movie and series at the same time has its own stand alone story.
Love and support to Scarlett Johansson here from Israel! She is such an awesome down to earth honest person. You cab see and feel how emotionally attached she is with hee role, her passion that is acting and how serious and deep she takes both. I am impressed and pleased to see claiming this role. If anyone can do it - it's her. Cheers
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this. I've seen bits and pieces finally the whole thing :). Can't wait for the movie it all looks awesome - the trailer, the event, the making of a cyborg.
To every single idiot in the comments-section complaining about "whitewashing", I'll bet that *_none_* of you have ever read the original manga. Do _any_ of you know that Major Motoko Kusanagi actually *_prefers bodies that resemble European (Caucasian) women_*? ^ This is even backed up by statements from Shirow Masamune *HIMSELF* in the appendices of the original manga. This time, the masses can believe that Scarlett Johansson cast as the Major is "whitewashing" all they want, but *_Guess what?_* You're technically *WRONG*.
Now, now don't start bring logic and common sense into it! They want to be outraged goddamn it! Unless the major is played by a Transgender Asian with Black and Latino Ancestry they will not be fucking happy. And even then they would complain that the entire film be in Japanese with English subtitles. But even after that they won't bloody see it because it promotes violence and the director is a man... A white man even worse! Don't even bother trying to argue the moronic mewling grumpy fucks.
Straight On Till Morning I've already stated the source right in the OP. It's the appendix section at the very end of the original 1989 manga. The appendices are not posted online (as this is not a common practice anyway when uploading manga chapters), and even if you wanted to read the original 1989 manga chapters online, you'd have to type in *_Koukaku Kidoutai_*, or "Mobile Armored Riot Police" (the original Japanese name of the series). The 1989 manga can still be purchased from Amazon and other sites. You *_need_* to read the original manga in paperback for yourself, as it really is a good read (plus a surprising amount of fanservice).
+LivMovieMaker so if a japanese bought an american car his racist, shirow always points out in his future that buying cyborg bodies will be as common as buying cars.
Number 1 should be purely animation with Hollywood budget. If the genre includes real actors, then it would just be anime adaptations. Otherwise, it's not anime if it's not animated.
***** I miss spoke. I meant live action adaptations. Animation, especially Japanese animation, sadly still has a childish stigma in the west. They will need to be live action, and done right in order to attract the masses. Similar to the comic book adaptations.
Orcha Flotta Well, after watching Ghost in the Shell, I was sure about one thing: Rupert Sanders is better with sci-fi rather than fantasy. Let's face it, the fantasy genre is dead
i know haha shes says "little" like there nothing when the Marvel movies are a Big hit very Popular movie franchise, unless she said that because shes in Tokyo and those movies may not be as popular.
They're in Tokyo and Japanese people expect self-deprecation, that's considered polite/classy behavior. Thus the "little" Marvel movies comment, although to us it might appear sarcastic.
yup because just like Game of Thrones, there are expectations from the fans of the book (in case here fans of the anime movie and tv series and m,anga) how the actress knows much about the material she is given to play.
Not rigid or inexperienced. This event was in Tokyo, he was conducting the interview the way that interviews with movie actors are normally conducted in Japan. It doesn't have the same feel or format as American/European interviews.
I live under your bed what we've already seen of it looks awesome, and we know Rupert Sanders can direct. So there's no reason to think negatively of it. Unless you're just a troll. Given your name and avatar, I think so.
Brace yourself for the race-bait haters ... [Pre-emptive questions for the usual nonsense]: 1) Name one Asian actress who looks more like the original anime movie character, than Scarlett Johanson does? 2) Is a character's name always indicitive of their race? I know an Asian man named Edward (should I insist he is actually white instead?) 3) Why do people deny the fact that there are white _(and black)_ Japanese people today, let alone in some science fictional future?
Is a story in Japan with a character with japanese name that works for the Japanese government and her body is by the japanese government, obviously she is japanese.
Ask the creators why they drew an android that looks just like Scarlett Johanson, in a fictional future state in their anime. Perhaps they will let you know why they chose to make her a Caucasian Japanese national. _[Refer to question #3: above]_
Symon Oliveira No, Eddie is 100% Japanese, but a British national (he was born here - both his parents are Japanese migrants). Karen Fukuhara ... It's going to get awkward when they ask her to wear blue-contacts and lighten her skin to look more like Motoko.
Something struck me while watching. MIDNIGHT VELOCITY! - In Lost in Translation, Scarlett and Bill are laughing at Anna Faris talking about working with Keanu in Midnight Velocity. And here she is...in that lead roll with the big flashy press junkets. Some sort of odd parallel, both in real life, and the movies. Bizarre!
I've long been a fan of GITS since the late '90's it has to be said from what I'm seeing I think this film is going to be brilliant. I think Scarlett Johansson was a good choice as The Major I really can't think of that many actresses who can lead and do both action and drama well. The response of many people including fans to this film has been very disappointing people seem unable to reconcile that a big budget movie is a game of balance and many compromises and concessions. It just has to be that way with the sheer amount of money involved, you have to mitigate risk, and so many factors can cause massive losses and you are also dealing with peoples reputations and careers, a bad movie can finish a director turn a star into a bit part extra even bankrupt a studio.
This movie is gonna kick ass to me, I don't care what anyone says. I wish people would just let people enjoy what they want instead of shitting on it before it's even released.
Takeshi Kitano is a magnificent actor, one of Japan's greatest. But he wasn't born to play Aramaki; hell, he feels almost miscast. I feel that the executive branch just said: "Hire a famous Japanese actor. Which one? How should we know?" -- and the dart fell on Kitano's picture. He's a great actor and I imagine that he's probably going to give the best performance in this picture, but I also suspect that it will have very little to do with conveying Aramaki's character into live-action.
Lightice1 because he cannot portray a character that's he said to grow very familiar with and understand 100% Aramaki isn't too complex where a great actor like Kitano can't get him down to some extent
Mahogany Magik Kitano just doesn't seem to be into the role or the film all that much, whatever he says in an interview, and I'm not exactly confident that the director has enough competence to see what makes Aramaki's character tick. Kitano probably makes a good performance on his own experience and talent, alone, but I doubt that it will have much in common with the previous iterations of the character. Actually I suspect that of most of the characters in this film, but not every actor has Kitano's acting chops to make up for it.
God damn, his answer about the relevance of the film, that ends at #3:43 - I got completely lost in his explanation, I think I might believe in this guy, I think the film might be good?
Clint Mansell according to www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/ghost-in-the-shell/43849/ghost-in-the-shell-first-trailer-clint-mansell-to-compose-score#ixzz4PwIcEN57
That lame remake of that DM song is already a bad sign. If the anime soundtrack is 10000 miles above the live action's soundtrack how good will the rest be? I wonder, they had Kawai at the Tokyo event, so they must have talked to her. Why not asking for permission to reuse the anime soundtrack?
Scarlett Johansson seems so fucking anxious and terrified in this interview, and that goes for pretty much every interview she's had for Ghost in the Shell.
Im really glad you guys posted this. This interview was the most generic interview i've seen this year.I could feel the awkwardness seeping out of the screen mainly due to Takeshi Kitano.

The event was in Tokyo. She acted and carried herself the way a Japanese audience would expect. What sounds confident to people in the west sounds arrogant and brash to them.
Not sure if they are gonna touch on how its more than a action movie. Its Government being overly involed in people's person life. Its police's going after people who have not commited a crime but are thinking about. Its about corporations controling what implants people have to get to keep a job. I pray all this is in the movie and not treated like a action movie
So let me get this straight when they show this movie in Japan (Japanese manga series) made in English with Japanese Subtitles or better yet dubbed in Japanese that's FUCK ING Hilarious
did scarjo just use sigmund freud's psychodynamic theory to describe the ghost? i didn't think of it that way before, considering his theory was debunked.
I can't believe it. They got fuckin' Peppler to MC this event. The only annoying thing about one of my favorite shows (Tokyo Eye on NHK), is MCing the GitS Event. Ain't that about a Bitch!?
Auto subtitles for Takeshi are rubbish.... would be great to have some real ones for English speakers (learning Japanese but still can't understand him).
Let's face it, those who know better came to see only one person, Takeshi Kitano. Even though we can't understand a word he's saying...
Truth! In fact, he's the only reason I personally give this adaptation of Ghost In The Shell it's merit. He's the Japanese equivalent of Al Pacino!
Guys, here is a breakdown of the Q&A section if you want to jump forward:
Takeshi Kitano starts at 11:34 and Scarlett Johansson starts at 19:15
Thank you so much for this dope exclusive Q&A!! Really looking forward to this movie 👍🏻
Our pleasure! :)

no subtitles feels bad
Outrage 3 please.
also, beat shows up in ong bak uncredited, now you know.
When Takeshi is speaking in Japanese, turn on the closed captions, they're hilarious!
Ikr
Bruh i lolled so hard reading the closed captions! Lmao made my day 😂😂😂
Noon felony sexual named cuca till the mo.
You d1ck. Hahaha. Utterly funny! Andy is a genuis!
Pay me no children! hahahhas
These CC are the funniest thing I've seen in ages.

She's so calm and wonderful to watch and just hear her speak here. I love her and gits is gonna be awesome
I'm excited for this movie but good God, Scarlett really does look amazing.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this. I've seen bits and pieces finally the whole thing :). Can't wait for the movie it all looks awesome - the trailer, the event, the making of a cyborg.
Awesome, so glad you enjoyed it :)

Agreed, and those people never do any research.........
Not trying to disagree whatsoever, but is there a source you could provide about Masamune saying that Motoko prefers caucasian bodies?
Straight On Till Morning I've already stated the source right in the OP. It's the appendix section at the very end of the original 1989 manga.

This just might create 2 things:
1: A new Anime sub genre in Hollywood.
2: A growth in cyberpunk movies.
Ether one is an excellent outcome.
Number 1 should be purely animation with Hollywood budget. If the genre includes real actors, then it would just be anime adaptations. Otherwise, it's not anime if it's not animated.

Aaaaand neither of those ever happened 🤗
I'm came from the future to inform you, that neither of those ever happened Lol
I trust in Rupert! He seems very dedicated in making this a great film. one to remember
He's got a lot to make up for. His Snow White movies were a total waste of otherwise talented actors and budget. Soooooo so so bad. :(
Orca Flotta You mean the one cause the second one was directed by someone else.
Maybe. I don't care about teeny shitfilms. AFAIK both Snow White's fell into that category but I've watched them both and found them equally terrible.
Orcha Flotta
Well, after watching Ghost in the Shell, I was sure about one thing:
Rupert Sanders is better with sci-fi rather than fantasy.
Let's face it, the fantasy genre is dead
As terrible as his fantasy shitfests were, I still enjoyed the watching experience over suffering thru GitS, this convoluted piece of dreck.
Impressed with The Tokyo Event and trailer. Thanks For The broadcast. Rupert Sanders better Deliver!
"Little" Marvel movies.
- Scarlett Johansson
i know haha shes says "little" like there nothing when the Marvel movies are a Big hit very Popular movie franchise, unless she said that because shes in Tokyo and those movies may not be as popular.
I think she was being sarcastic
+TheKira708 Marvel is very popular in Japan.
Kevin Feige yeah i think she was too
They're in Tokyo and Japanese people expect self-deprecation, that's considered polite/classy behavior. Thus the "little" Marvel movies comment, although to us it might appear sarcastic.
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS
Our pleasure!
Flicks And The City thanks for uploading! Much appreciated.
i dont speak japanese, but i got the feeling takeshi kitano doesn't like the work they've done.
I'm so excited, this pumped me up so much!
Takeshi Kitano is cyberpunk to the core.
The subtitles are everything :'D at 16:44 "I know given my own dick in a country boy owns LA and one young girl... so you know, hey shuttle Jewish"
pinjekerne XD
scarlett understands the material really well... looks like i was wrong in dismissing her casting
Thank you sooo much for the upload.
My pleasure!
I honestly think this movie will turn out great
Harley Rules after seeing the second trailer do you still feel the same way?
Winterwacko Reborn not sure, but I really hope it turns out great .-.
Harley Rules
It's cool to see Chris Peppler interviewing.
She looks prettier with black hair
"Henka Robotics, which created the Major"
So we're just gonna forget about Megatech? ok.
So long as we are true to the characters i suppose
listen to johansson in interviews, not gonna be even close
She seems very nervous compare to other interviews she has done.
Karate Chicken of course she is.
yup because just like Game of Thrones, there are expectations from the fans of the book (in case here fans of the anime movie and tv series and m,anga) how the actress knows much about the material she is given to play.

Unless you're just a troll. Given your name and avatar, I think so.
bcoz theres a high expectation out of it. most anime/manga turned into movie, disappoints fans everytime.
Is there a version with accurate subtitles for Kitano?
The subtitles starting at 11:34 omfg! :D
Brace yourself for the race-bait haters ... [Pre-emptive questions for the usual nonsense]:

You know one Asian man that is probably half american.
Karen Fukuhara looks more Major than Scarlet.

Scarlett looks beyond awesome (: , perfect dress, hairs, everything
Where are the subtitles? I want to know what Takeshi said.
Turn on the Closed Captions when "Beat" Takeshi starts speaking. XD
crazya22whiteboy5150 That's what's so funny about it.
re all: xD
Funniest thing I've seen all day, arigato sir
Something struck me while watching. MIDNIGHT VELOCITY! - In Lost in Translation, Scarlett and Bill are laughing at Anna Faris talking about working with Keanu in Midnight Velocity. And here she is...in that lead roll with the big flashy press junkets. Some sort of odd parallel, both in real life, and the movies. Bizarre!

Thanks for upping this, you beautiful person :)

Yes, and so far they made every mistake in the book.
like?
Zaca Teca I wouldn't hold your breath for an answer... Its probably going to be crap anyway.
@@albrtb77 read any review online - they point out all the mistakes. it's insane that you dont see they missed the mark lol
What an amazing director. Time to take on Neuromancer ( Gibson ) If he does the same that with Ghost in the Shell we have a book to movie masterpiece.
subtitles and translations 10/10
This movie is gonna kick ass to me, I don't care what anyone says. I wish people would just let people enjoy what they want instead of shitting on it before it's even released.
To be fair it is out and it is pure garbage.
I saw it and loved it.
The English sub :) LOL
wow those fucking CC when the japanesse starts WTF?????
I can't believe she said those little marvel movies.
What else would you call them?
other comic themed movies
John Chang I'll stick with her label.
The Geishas in the tráiler is so fucking beauty
IKR agree with you... its so cool
Damn, Scarlett looks so tired in this interview!
Scarlett
felt like he might have misinterpreted what 'Ghost' meant in the universe of GIS.... but the movie might still worth a watch
thats what i wanted to hear is that scarlet has analyzed the original movie i wish she watch the shows to but its aight for now

***** Aramaki wasn't just a diplomat and you must not have seen all of his films
It's Chris Peppler of Tokyo Eye fame.
Shame you missed the intro with the amazing drumming, vocals and imagery of the creation of Major Motoko Kusanagi...
HI there thanks I just checked and we have the intro + clip if you want to check it our here ruclips.net/video/ux3VZsdwnm0/видео.html
***** Thank you :)
andrija stamenkovic uhhh ok lol...
>Loss of innocence
I mean I guess? For the Major it was an expanding of consciousness.
Jon Chu... this is how you make a movie based on a cartoon (or Anime in this case).
Lol, Scarlett looks like a cyber soldier... He he.. Gonna be good.! Hopefully!
WHO THE FUCK MADE THESE SUBTITLES!!! I"M DYING!!! XD
Making subtitles and smoking weed, as usual!\\
Subtitles for Takeshi Kitano speech anyone?
Tu irgi būk pasveikintas multikultūriniame pasaulyje, žmogau :)
God damn, his answer about the relevance of the film, that ends at #3:43 - I got completely lost in his explanation, I think I might believe in this guy, I think the film might be good?
Takeshi-san totally wants to chikan Scarlett.
takeshi`s second greatest challenge trying to get the damn subtitles to work on this video and figure out what he is accually saying
Have they mentioned who is composing the score for the film? I havn't been able to confirm beyond the sound editors.
Clint Mansell according to www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/ghost-in-the-shell/43849/ghost-in-the-shell-first-trailer-clint-mansell-to-compose-score#ixzz4PwIcEN57
Requiem for a Dream!!!
Doom the movie is his work too!
That lame remake of that DM song is already a bad sign. If the anime soundtrack is 10000 miles above the live action's soundtrack how good will the rest be? I wonder, they had Kawai at the Tokyo event, so they must have talked to her. Why not asking for permission to reuse the anime soundtrack?
aki and joey are at this event. (Anime youtubers) So lucky!
I don't care about any of these White Washing crap... Just give me Tachikoma, god damn it.....
I will be dissapointed if there are no Tachicoma's in this movie!
tachikoma is life. I don't think it's gonna be in this one, but if it turns out to be successful, they're definitely gonna be in the sequel.
WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE PUT JAPANESE CAPTIONS ON THIS I BEG YOU
Scarlett Johansson seems so fucking anxious and terrified in this interview, and that goes for pretty much every interview she's had for Ghost in the Shell.
FanFanatik I think she's nervous about the face of a possible franchise on her own
someone, please interpret what Takeshi tells. looks like some cool and fun stuff, everybody laughs
is the interviewer a robot?
Im really glad you guys posted this. This interview was the most generic interview i've seen this year.I could feel the awkwardness seeping out of the screen mainly due to Takeshi Kitano.
Seems like a lot of care's being taken over this movie. Although I'm feeling pretty nervous about the direction they're taking things. Still gonna see it, though. Even if it sucks big time, it's not like it'll erase the manga and anime.
"Scarlet Johansson has an incredible body of work"
who is the host?
scarlett dosent feel confident at all...
I think it's an intimidating position for her, she knows this could turn out like "Lucy" if it goes south. It might be the weight of responsability.
Lucy Box Office Worldwide: $463,360,063
The event was in Tokyo. She acted and carried herself the way a Japanese audience would expect. What sounds confident to people in the west sounds arrogant and brash to them.
Thats true! Didn't even thought of that. Well done good sir!
+Manuelomar2001 very true.
The captions don't make any sense when Takeshi talks
ruizj2006 pretty sure those are auto-generated. don't think there are subtitles put on it.
Not sure if they are gonna touch on how its more than a action movie. Its Government being overly involed in people's person life. Its police's going after people who have not commited a crime but are thinking about. Its about corporations controling what implants people have to get to keep a job. I pray all this is in the movie and not treated like a action movie
beat kitano.......fuck yeah
19:18 Scarlett Johansson
Is there somewhere a translation for the japanese part ?
After Choi Min Sik Scarlett play with Kitano .......Real Chance
no subs for Beat sensei : (
why no subtitles for Takeshi and only translating half of his answers by the interviewer?
lol yeah closed caption on when buddy is speaking japanese .
wow Scarlett Johansson seems very nervous, probably she knows who is sitting next to her. normally.
fun fact for those who watched kamen rider drive the host is belt san
Watching it just for Kitano, movie might end up sucking, but at least Kitano is in it :D
i love beat takeshi but they couldn't have done worse job by casting him as aramaki. its like casting al pacino as gandi
So let me get this straight when they show this movie in Japan (Japanese manga series) made in English with Japanese Subtitles or better yet dubbed in Japanese that's FUCK ING Hilarious
So.. Michael Pitt is the main villain then? ;) "The laughing man"?
Kuze to be precise.
Yup!
Kuze, but a combination of elements of Kuze and the Puppeteer from the 1995 film.
yup
If this does well, I could see them using the Laughing Man for a sequel.
anime taking in out what no no no no....
Someone needs to fix the subs for Takeshi Kitano
did scarjo just use sigmund freud's psychodynamic theory to describe the ghost? i didn't think of it that way before, considering his theory was debunked.
it'll be a high bar to clear...
Takeshi was praising Allah in the captions.
The host look slike a cyborg
he is.....he is the voice of Kamen Rider's belt in Kamen Rider Drive Lol
At first I was like ha this italian yank can't even pronounce Kitano's character's name. Then he starts speaking fluent japanese...
Valar Morghulis Chris peppler ftw
Belt-San.
I can't believe it. They got fuckin' Peppler to MC this event. The only annoying thing about one of my favorite shows (Tokyo Eye on NHK), is MCing the GitS Event. Ain't that about a Bitch!?
"Make some torsos, i stay coordinated" - takeshi kitano
I apologize for not knowing Japanese, but why is there no captions?
Vic Romano from MXC!
I hope Rupert got paid well for doing this movie cos it's gonna be the death of his career.
Actresses seem to 'really' get on with this director.
Auto subtitles for Takeshi are rubbish.... would be great to have some real ones for English speakers (learning Japanese but still can't understand him).
When you know that Joey and Aki were in this.
I really do hope this movie isn't shit. I'll be so so disappointed if it turns out to be shit.
Rupert Sanders, please dont fuck this classic like dragon ball evolution
I don't like Rupert Sanders as a director. I hope they gave it to someone else. [sighs]
I see... 🤔
?PLAY A EPIC SONG WHEN THE SCARLATT JOHNSON ENTERS ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SONG ?? ?
All three of them got pretty epic entrance music, and three years later, they don't appear to be identified in the comments section.
When Scarlett say: "All those little Marvel Movie". Yeah allmost no one saw them LoL
