The video of Icon Yacht's incredible project Master raised so many questions that I took advantage of their presence at the Monaco Yacht Show to ask them some directly....

Excellent, thanks 😊 About wind turbines... While the small ones are common on sail boats, I've yet to see one on a motoryacht/superyacht. I wonder why? In your video of February 2020, about the Rossinavi design challenge, you talked to a young designer (Jack something, impossible to hear), who had designed a superyacht project with a rather large but retractable wind turbine. I found that very interesting, but have not been able to find any information on such a setup anywhere. Not only does the turbine itself take up space, but the 'transformers or whatever you need to capture and store the energy' will also take up space. Not worth it? Owners don't want to give up space? Not efficient enough? It's an interesting subject I'd love to learn more about.

Using a donor vessel, how much is the cost reduction compared to an equivalent new build? 10%? 50%?

I also asked that question. Would be interesting to know what the big builders like Oceanco, Turquoise, Bilgin, Lurssen, Heesen, and Feadship would charge. I don't think Benetti would do anything this big, nor would Van Der Valk. Those are the only other 2 custom builders I can think of, maybe Alia or Dunya in Turkey, but pretty sure those 4 would not do it. The others might. I agree though. What are the savings?

I wasn't going to watch this video because I don't usually go for shop-talk kind of videos, but in the end, because of your expertise, I decided to watch it anyway. I am so glad I did! I learned a lot and many questions I had, such as cruising distance and the stabilizers were answered. Now, I am looking forward to your next video and for the one on Saturday as well. Thank you for sharing this with us!

This content is complimenting the reviews/tours perfectly. So interesting and informative to hear and see the in-depth process of design and engineering of different vessels.

The best is you must give you're client satisfaction and follow what they wanted. For you as a manufacturer and builder , you give also you're thoughts and explain as a pioneer builder but in the end you make your build competitive on market and impressive.

Has anyone asked how much money would be saved by converting rather than building from new? 10%, 20%, 40%?

With all the people looking at explorer yachts these days, why hasn't anyone bought the Palmer-Johnson PJ-801 World hull? Love the look of that yacht and would love to see a video on it.

As I am late to this Q n A can a sail that like a kite be an option for long range cruising?

it looks great and I imagine maybe slightly cheaper than construction of the yacht from scratch. That would be interesting to see what Lurrsen, Oceanco, maybe Turquoise or Heseen would charge for something similar to that without a donor vessel. I bet it would be in the hundred millions. Whereas this you are buying the yacht and recycling some of, parts by selling them. That's another question, is that savings that comes from selling the unneeded parts transferred to the client (minus labor for removal) or do you view it as your yacht and you are removing it and finding the buyer so it's a wash(comes out even if you don't get American slang)?? Last question, I watched the video about these donor vessels from another channel. He said that these ships will have 70-80% aggregated total of the systems, furnishings, and some structures removed, which all combined is about 70- 80% of the yacht. They want a bare shell. is this true? sounds amazing if it is.? I can see 50-60%.

    Could "GT" = Gross Tonnage?

Thanks for watching and for your comment. GT usually refers to Gross Tonnage you’re correct, but the question seemed to ask whether the yacht would have stabilisers or GT. Maybe I misunderstood, but since ALL yachts have a Gross Tonnage measurement I don’t think that’s what the viewer was referring to.
Again…I may be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time!
