I met a Reaper yesterday as, being new to the game, I sailed out to meet them where they were to see what they were about and face my fears. As it was, they were actually very friendly to me and not only gave me a chest of rage, they also made sure to demonstrate how to douse its flames so i could get it to an outpost safely. Of course I am fully aware that not every ship on the seas will be quite so generous, but it was still a heartening experience!
Concept: A loot type that makes it so however long its on your ship, the more valuable it is. Maybe with a max of 10x value multiplier if you've had it for a few hours. This means that a 1000 gold item, if held onto for awhile, (I'm thinking 3 hours?) then it will instead be 10,000 gold when you cash it in. The idea was inspired by what you said at 8:27, just thought I'd share. Good content, keep it up

@@ironbear2645 how do emissary flags incentivize stocking loot? I empty my ship of loot just as often when I’m flying one as when I’m not. Also, emissary flags do gain value the longer they’re on the ship, assuming you’re ranking up, because the rewards for lowering it increase with each tier
Was sailing with my brother when we came across a reaper ship, another sloop, manned by two people. Though we were bracing for a fight, we saw one of the players jump into the water and waved at us. Curious because the encounter didn't immediately start with cannon fire, we let them on our ship. The guy, after saying hello, just started eating worms and puking all over the ship while we watched in confusion and amusement hahahaha. After a while, my brother just threw caution to the wind and took the first swing, and just like that we started fighting - clashing swords, exchange of bullets and cannons and all that. We're both admittedly bad at pvp so we were laughing at ourselves the whole time even as I heard our ship fill with water, mostly scrambling and dying over and over while getting a few lucky hits and kills. Surprisingly enough, while we were at the ferryman, the other player repaired all the damage, even setting our mast back upright. The fighting ended when I thanked them for fixing our ship and keeping it afloat, and funnily enough they even apologized for attacking (even though they were a reaper crew 🤣) Told them it was all good and also apologized as well because technically we started it hahaha proceeded to raise our grogs and play a few shanties before they went back to their ship, bidding us a good day. The last laugh of the encounter was that at that point we realized our ships were going to collide and we had no time to stop it. So we all just said SORRY!! over the crashing sounds before sailing our own ways 😂 probably one of the most enjoyable encounter I had with the reapers
Completely felt that Gold Hoarder's emissary crew just giving up and dipping. It's so frustrating to be constantly attacked by PvP-hungry people in this game, and after 5 times of fighting them and losing, sometimes I just sit there and watch it burn.
its pvp game first tho everything its in the name of the game Sea of "Thieves" pve you do puts you to risk for pvp as you have loot on your ship only pve content is tall tales and even then some people will attack you
I was playing with some guys last night and we were just minding our own business and we were getting constantly attacked. While we were selling we got attacked by a Reaper 5 that wanted out Athena 2 flag. We dropped all the storage crates we couldn’t sell off our ship, sold all our loot, and lowered our emissary in the time it took them to sink us. So they got absolutely nothing
Here’s my problem with a lot of Reapers. They don’t respect who they’re attacking. I enjoy having a threat looming when I’m doing an emissary mission, otherwise it wouldn’t be interesting. But so many of the reapers I’ve encountered are bad sports. If I could have a fun, respectful battle with them then I’d love to have them around, saying “gg” on the Ferry of the Damned after one of us has sunk the other is the best part of pvp, knowing that apart from losing some gold, you both had fun (which is ultimately all that matters). But when you have an angry teen screaming at you to kys, it just gets annoying. Cliff is the best example of a good reaper, he plays to have fun and he’s always respectful. If only more reapers could be like him.

Sometimes you can bargain with reaper ships. Take the other day where I convinced a reaper to leave me alone, twice, because my OoS emissary value was too low. Both times they accepted whatever misc. loot I had that wasn't a skull as payment for keeping my ship afloat. They can be decent players, especially if you can say "hello" before cannons are fired.
I play helm a lot, and just by keeping our cannons pointed at the other ship we end up sinking like 90% of boats. It's amazing how something like that makes a difference.

I think my biggest problem with sea of thieves is that it takes an hour and a half to find people, (unless they are doing a fort), so you can either choose to do a quest and risk wasting the grind during the fight at the end when you inevitably get seen, or you could sail aimlessly for hours just hoping you find someone actually doing something. Im glad the reapers were implemented, they kind of fixed this problem. Although any pve player wont raise an emissary when there is a reaper 4 or 5

when a reaper spawns up on your map and you’re full of loot grade 5 emissary you get the😨 face..2 days ago I was sweating so hard for an entire hour but they instead parked at an outpost and didn’t move the entire time whilst grade 5, unsure what they were doing but I got to gain money and 2 levels in my order of souls unbothered so I’m happy
@@testerwulf3357 that's funny, two days ago I was sailing around doing commodity runs to sell to reaper for commendations. Commodities raise your emissary flag when sold, so we got all commodities and sailed to reaper's, then raised the reaper flag and just kinda sat there selling
Last night, my buddies and I were allied in two sloops and we 2v1'd a Reaper sloop, the two guys on there were insanely good (we're all pretty average apart from one) and we gave them a solid run for their money. Really enjoyable fight, they said the same and offered to team up sometime. Best PvP interaction I've had in the game so far.

I mean that's kinda what competence is. Having ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully. In this case having the skill to win a fight and also having the knowledge of who exactly you are fighting.
I want to get into Reapers, but tbh I kinda hate blunderbuss meta. It just feels so cheap hopping around trying to barrel stuff people. I wish short ranged combat was more reliant on sword skill as sword fighting on an enemy ship is way more awesome.
Sword doesn’t have too much skill tbh either a lot is just spam click when you’re close and hold block if they are spam clicking. It’s honestly pretty similar to blunderbuss because for both the only real skill comes with being able to move around efficiently and sneaking up to your opponent.
@@meeton2990 Yes you spam sword swings and try to block them but that’s just surface level there’s more to it than that. You can dodge hop while blocking, you have lunge. Lunge hits through an opponents block, lunging while holding down block allows you to move side to faster and could be used to gain the advantage over your opponent or spell your doom if you miss. Yes it’s not a super deep system but it is far more meaningful than just hopping around the deck trying to one shot each other with blunders.
@@Sackboii double-gunning isn't as strong as it was. a lot of people use sword +rifle or pistol and have a lot of success. and don't listen to people who say 'something doesn't take skill,' etc. if you kill the other guy, you had more skill. anybody saying anything else probably just died to you or died to someone using what you used.
@@jp-sn6si Absolutely! I’ve actually been practicing my swordsmanship and have been finding success with sword pistol combo. It’s to the point now where I’m almost hoping people have blunders because I know if I backstep before they can shoot it won’t one shot me. Then I just slice em up. I wiped a galleon crew yesterday alone with a sword and one of them was screaming at me that I was a garbage sword spammer. Best feeling in the world 😅 I just laughed to myself as their ship went beneath the waves.

I see a reaper boating around and I stay as far away as possible when doing my emissaries haha. Last time I played one sat around galleons grave the entire time I was on? Unsure of their deal..They did move a bit but it was to circle the outpost once. I’m the nice ship boating around doing my voyage tasks to get gold and pirate legend some day! I’ll gift loot sometimes and generally like to build alliances whenever I can, we’ll fight back if we have to though I’m not great at it (i struggle against skeletons..have to get backup for my order of soul voyages) and a terrible shot on cannons 🥲 I leave the pvp to my boyfriend and anyone else we’re with whilst I handle the harpoon, fishing, carrying things, backup, or sailing every now and again (all the chores basically haha).
The Reapers are one of those things that sound good on paper, but are completely stupid once you take a second to think about it more. Yes they are supposed to be the PvP faction, yet they are also the faction profiting the most out of PvE while also being the only faction getting special loot through PvP. In my oppion Rare really should fix the faction, by making it so only loot taken from other ships gets the full emmissary bonus for example. Every Reaper I have met so far either is a PvP focused asshole chasing you over the entire map because you dared to raise an emissary flag or is PvE focused and only runs away once you even look in their direction. I am not saying that every Reaper has to take every fight coming their way, I just think that the other emissaries should get something out of winning a fight against a Reaper. For example making the Reaper Emissary flag sellable to all factions plus the bonus, because often for me its like even if I win against the Reaper having homed in on my the moment they spotted me having fun, my reward for winning is keeping my loot and nothing else, while for the Reaper if they had won their reward would have been all my loot plus my emissary flag plus the captains log they just added.
agreed. they profit the most out of EVERY PvE while not even PvE focused. IMO I think Athena's needs an update, and should work the same way as reapers without the whole PvP and see every emissary part. You should be able to sell everything to Athenas AND profit off them the most.
@@floofitoaster2168 of course it takes long to get into a fight because nobody except reapers want to see all the time they spent getting loot wasted by a PvP sweat looking for their 5 seconds of hype. Additionally the ships are often empty cause they sell as often as possible as long as a reaper is on the map just to make sure they atleast make some progress.
My friend and I took out a fort which ended up taking over an hour and we went to sell, but on the way to reapers hideout a megeledon, kraken, and skeleton ship attacked us and we had like 5 gunpowder barrels at the front of our ship
So, I'm watching this video late. And imma tell a story. So, I was online and we were on a galleon. We raided a fort, found the key. We loaded all the treasure. And I saw a ship. And out of nowhere and no warning all my cremated left me. The ship started to attack and shot us. And like probably most of you know galleons sink really quick. By the time I patched up the hole. I ran into a giant rock. I was so freaking mad. Oh yeah the the megalodon showed up and finished the job.
i usually fly the reaper emissary flag and i try not to be toxic i only attack if i need treasure or if someone is to close cause i get paranoid when a ship is to close

I had a reaper attack me. I am not a pvp guy, I am a diplomacy kind of guy so im sure you can understand that a galleon attacking a one man sloop who just does basic runs would end bad. eventually they seemed to feel bad that I was just a simple man making his way because they repaired my boat, put chests on it, said sorry and left. Weirdest reaper encounter I have ever had. That encounter has made me consider the reaper career but then I remember that I am not great at fighting so I stick to my basic vault and merchant runs.
My opinion towards other players as a reaper when they call me a bad player or a bad sport after I’ve just sunk them is “womp womp cry more” because honestly that’s not my problem, I can still get jumped and lose my loot just as much as you can…
Defend myself against reapers? If I see one on the map I abandon whatever it is i'm doing, dump treasure, and head to the nearest fort for gunpowder barrels. Then I find a rowboat and then head to the hideout with the rowboat loaded with the gunpowder, then scuttle my main ship and wait. You know what happens next.
here's my take on the reapers faction (and i know im gonna get alot of "interesting replies" from this). i have a bit of like/Despise relationship with the reapers and i say it that way because 80% percent of the time, i freaking hate the reapers just for their pure existance in the game and i have only ever met one group of reapers who actually alright in the entire game. that's the way it is for me and no-one's changing that about me. thing is though, i don't mind the concept of the reapers. the idea of a faction purely dedicated to hunting down other players for their emissary flags can be a fun and cool idea for a playable faction that requires an extreme amount of skill involved and group co-ordination. There is one MASSIVE problem that's preventing me from liking it though, THE FREAKING EMMISARY GPS (don't lie, it is EXACTLY what it is.). see at grade five, they effectively get the abillity to see where other emmisaries are on the map of the server. that, to me, takes a huge amount of skill away from it because given that the reapers take any kind of loot they can find (with some exceptions), a fully grouped ship (4 man, 3 man or 2 man what have you) could essentially speed run through loot quests (from any faction take your pick) to get it to grade 5 and get a full GPS on the dot. then when it comes to actually fighting then, your most of the time outnumbered and at that point you might aswell kiss both your ship and the loot you spent an hour or two getting goodbye. all because a system built into the game held their hand and showed them to where you were. and before reaper sympathisers give me the whole "but you can see the reaper emmisary on the map aswell, just sail away from it" excuse, that doesn't make it better. infact, it just adds more stress and at times, takes alot of the fun out of the game. there have been multiple instances where i've essentially popped into a server, looked at the map, saw that a reaper emmisary ship is right next to where i spawned and quickly after, i had to hop to another server just to get away from them in hopes that i don't run into another one (which is in SOT's case, is a 60/40 chance) so that my anger issues don't become worse then when i play league of legends. its just genuinely not a fun experience to be on the receiving end of it. it would have been so much better for the game to NOT add the emmisary GPS feature into it so that the faction encouraged more exploration aswell as push the group to priorities what should happen if say (as an example), you've found an emmisary ship but you also have a quest to do and don't have much time to waste. so yeah, to sum it all up. i don't agree with the reaper faction as a whole because how poorly (in my eyes) it was designed.
Yes the GPS feature totally ruins it! If you can’t out fight them give up, if you can then you should also give up as they literally can find you real fast and will continue hunting you. There’s no stopping them! Sell all your loot asap then log, no other option..and that sucks. Running isn’t an option against them.
How do I keep my distance from reapers. My friend and I aren't good at close pvp but we are pretty accurate with the cannons. Can you please give us advice
If you guys are good cannoneers, use opportunities like 7:41 to rain cannonballs on their decks. Aiming for the steering wheel and the cannon lines give you the best chances to kill them or knock them off their boats. When reapers sail directly into your cannonline they're making themselves super vulnerable which makes it harder for them to board your ship and kill you.
just yesterday i got greifed by a reaper galleon after my 3rd death i just scuttled and server hopped so they couldn't get anything out of it since i was literally just looking for supplies
i really hate pvp in this game, but not for the usual reasons. whenever i get in a fight with another crew, my hands start shaking, and my heart starts racing in a way i dont like. i get caught up in the heat of the moment, spouting insults, its just not a fun time for me. i would just prefer to run would-be attackers in circles for hours, wasting their time.
Same! I get shaky and my heart pounds..it’s just so stressful and makes me upset. It’s not fun for me especially when I’m just trying to have fun time doing voyages!

@@CliffTheStoryGuy you shoot one gun, switch to the second gun sprint quickly to cancel the animation and then shoot your second gun. very fast if done correctly
I love this game, The naval combat is great but the whole no stamina thing which allows the people to just constantly jump spam while swinging a sword really makes me hate anything to do with PVP in general,

That would make stacking loot actually viable, though it would probably ruin the economy of the game, 10x is way too much

@@testerwulf3357 that's funny, two days ago I was sailing around doing commodity runs to sell to reaper for commendations. Commodities raise your emissary flag when sold, so we got all commodities and sailed to reaper's, then raised the reaper flag and just kinda sat there selling

Last night, my buddies and I were allied in two sloops and we 2v1'd a Reaper sloop, the two guys on there were insanely good (we're all pretty average apart from one) and we gave them a solid run for their money. Really enjoyable fight, they said the same and offered to team up sometime. Best PvP interaction I've had in the game so far.

I mean that's kinda what competence is. Having ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully. In this case having the skill to win a fight and also having the knowledge of who exactly you are fighting.

I want to get into Reapers, but tbh I kinda hate blunderbuss meta. It just feels so cheap hopping around trying to barrel stuff people. I wish short ranged combat was more reliant on sword skill as sword fighting on an enemy ship is way more awesome.

Sword doesn’t have too much skill tbh either a lot is just spam click when you’re close and hold block if they are spam clicking. It’s honestly pretty similar to blunderbuss because for both the only real skill comes with being able to move around efficiently and sneaking up to your opponent.
@@meeton2990 Yes you spam sword swings and try to block them but that’s just surface level there’s more to it than that. You can dodge hop while blocking, you have lunge. Lunge hits through an opponents block, lunging while holding down block allows you to move side to faster and could be used to gain the advantage over your opponent or spell your doom if you miss. Yes it’s not a super deep system but it is far more meaningful than just hopping around the deck trying to one shot each other with blunders.
@@Sackboii double-gunning isn't as strong as it was. a lot of people use sword +rifle or pistol and have a lot of success. and don't listen to people who say 'something doesn't take skill,' etc. if you kill the other guy, you had more skill. anybody saying anything else probably just died to you or died to someone using what you used.
@@jp-sn6si Absolutely! I’ve actually been practicing my swordsmanship and have been finding success with sword pistol combo. It’s to the point now where I’m almost hoping people have blunders because I know if I backstep before they can shoot it won’t one shot me. Then I just slice em up. I wiped a galleon crew yesterday alone with a sword and one of them was screaming at me that I was a garbage sword spammer. Best feeling in the world 😅 I just laughed to myself as their ship went beneath the waves.

Last time I played one sat around galleons grave the entire time I was on? Unsure of their deal..They did move a bit but it was to circle the outpost once.
I’m the nice ship boating around doing my voyage tasks to get gold and pirate legend some day! I’ll gift loot sometimes and generally like to build alliances whenever I can, we’ll fight back if we have to though I’m not great at it (i struggle against skeletons..have to get backup for my order of soul voyages) and a terrible shot on cannons 🥲 I leave the pvp to my boyfriend and anyone else we’re with whilst I handle the harpoon, fishing, carrying things, backup, or sailing every now and again (all the chores basically haha).
The Reapers are one of those things that sound good on paper, but are completely stupid once you take a second to think about it more. Yes they are supposed to be the PvP faction, yet they are also the faction profiting the most out of PvE while also being the only faction getting special loot through PvP. In my oppion Rare really should fix the faction, by making it so only loot taken from other ships gets the full emmissary bonus for example. Every Reaper I have met so far either is a PvP focused asshole chasing you over the entire map because you dared to raise an emissary flag or is PvE focused and only runs away once you even look in their direction. I am not saying that every Reaper has to take every fight coming their way, I just think that the other emissaries should get something out of winning a fight against a Reaper. For example making the Reaper Emissary flag sellable to all factions plus the bonus, because often for me its like even if I win against the Reaper having homed in on my the moment they spotted me having fun, my reward for winning is keeping my loot and nothing else, while for the Reaper if they had won their reward would have been all my loot plus my emissary flag plus the captains log they just added.
agreed. they profit the most out of EVERY PvE while not even PvE focused. IMO I think Athena's needs an update, and should work the same way as reapers without the whole PvP and see every emissary part. You should be able to sell everything to Athenas AND profit off them the most.
with how long it takes to find a fight, and how often other ships are empty, I feel as a reaper main PvE is very necessary for reaper to be relevant
@@floofitoaster2168 of course it takes long to get into a fight because nobody except reapers want to see all the time they spent getting loot wasted by a PvP sweat looking for their 5 seconds of hype. Additionally the ships are often empty cause they sell as often as possible as long as a reaper is on the map just to make sure they atleast make some progress.
It's high risk high reward, reapers get hunted down themselves by other reapers or other people looking for loot

My friend and I took out a fort which ended up taking over an hour and we went to sell, but on the way to reapers hideout a megeledon, kraken, and skeleton ship attacked us and we had like 5 gunpowder barrels at the front of our ship
Sadly just never grab the gunpowder…not worth it.

So, I'm watching this video late. And imma tell a story. So, I was online and we were on a galleon. We raided a fort, found the key. We loaded all the treasure. And I saw a ship. And out of nowhere and no warning all my cremated left me. The ship started to attack and shot us. And like probably most of you know galleons sink really quick. By the time I patched up the hole. I ran into a giant rock. I was so freaking mad. Oh yeah the the megalodon showed up and finished the job.

I had a reaper attack me. I am not a pvp guy, I am a diplomacy kind of guy so im sure you can understand that a galleon attacking a one man sloop who just does basic runs would end bad. eventually they seemed to feel bad that I was just a simple man making his way because they repaired my boat, put chests on it, said sorry and left. Weirdest reaper encounter I have ever had. That encounter has made me consider the reaper career but then I remember that I am not great at fighting so I stick to my basic vault and merchant runs.
I’m not gonna lie you can hate me for this but order of souls is probably one of my favorite emissary flags to grind

Defend myself against reapers? If I see one on the map I abandon whatever it is i'm doing, dump treasure, and head to the nearest fort for gunpowder barrels. Then I find a rowboat and then head to the hideout with the rowboat loaded with the gunpowder, then scuttle my main ship and wait. You know what happens next.

here's my take on the reapers faction (and i know im gonna get alot of "interesting replies" from this). i have a bit of like/Despise relationship with the reapers and i say it that way because 80% percent of the time, i freaking hate the reapers just for their pure existance in the game and i have only ever met one group of reapers who actually alright in the entire game. that's the way it is for me and no-one's changing that about me.
thing is though, i don't mind the concept of the reapers. the idea of a faction purely dedicated to hunting down other players for their emissary flags can be a fun and cool idea for a playable faction that requires an extreme amount of skill involved and group co-ordination.
There is one MASSIVE problem that's preventing me from liking it though, THE FREAKING EMMISARY GPS (don't lie, it is EXACTLY what it is.). see at grade five, they effectively get the abillity to see where other emmisaries are on the map of the server. that, to me, takes a huge amount of skill away from it because given that the reapers take any kind of loot they can find (with some exceptions), a fully grouped ship (4 man, 3 man or 2 man what have you) could essentially speed run through loot quests (from any faction take your pick) to get it to grade 5 and get a full GPS on the dot. then when it comes to actually fighting then, your most of the time outnumbered and at that point you might aswell kiss both your ship and the loot you spent an hour or two getting goodbye. all because a system built into the game held their hand and showed them to where you were.
and before reaper sympathisers give me the whole "but you can see the reaper emmisary on the map aswell, just sail away from it" excuse, that doesn't make it better. infact, it just adds more stress and at times, takes alot of the fun out of the game. there have been multiple instances where i've essentially popped into a server, looked at the map, saw that a reaper emmisary ship is right next to where i spawned and quickly after, i had to hop to another server just to get away from them in hopes that i don't run into another one (which is in SOT's case, is a 60/40 chance) so that my anger issues don't become worse then when i play league of legends. its just genuinely not a fun experience to be on the receiving end of it.
it would have been so much better for the game to NOT add the emmisary GPS feature into it so that the faction encouraged more exploration aswell as push the group to priorities what should happen if say (as an example), you've found an emmisary ship but you also have a quest to do and don't have much time to waste.
so yeah, to sum it all up. i don't agree with the reaper faction as a whole because how poorly (in my eyes) it was designed.

Yes the GPS feature totally ruins it! If you can’t out fight them give up, if you can then you should also give up as they literally can find you real fast and will continue hunting you. There’s no stopping them! Sell all your loot asap then log, no other option..and that sucks. Running isn’t an option against them.
They need to get something for reaching grade 5 as every other emissary gets a voyage

How do I keep my distance from reapers. My friend and I aren't good at close pvp but we are pretty accurate with the cannons. Can you please give us advice
If you guys are good cannoneers, use opportunities like 7:41 to rain cannonballs on their decks. Aiming for the steering wheel and the cannon lines give you the best chances to kill them or knock them off their boats. When reapers sail directly into your cannonline they're making themselves super vulnerable which makes it harder for them to board your ship and kill you.

just yesterday i got greifed by a reaper galleon after my 3rd death i just scuttled and server hopped so they couldn't get anything out of it since i was literally just looking for supplies
i really hate pvp in this game, but not for the usual reasons. whenever i get in a fight with another crew, my hands start shaking, and my heart starts racing in a way i dont like. i get caught up in the heat of the moment, spouting insults, its just not a fun time for me. i would just prefer to run would-be attackers in circles for hours, wasting their time.
Same! I get shaky and my heart pounds..it’s just so stressful and makes me upset. It’s not fun for me especially when I’m just trying to have fun time doing voyages!

I love this game, The naval combat is great but the whole no stamina thing which allows the people to just constantly jump spam while swinging a sword really makes me hate anything to do with PVP in general,
