I just bought the same 50s Vintera Tele in Fiesta (Tomato Soup) Red that you showed here. It’s the ultimate guitar for me. I love the 7.25 radius glossy U shaped baseball bat neck and the sound of the pickups. No nonsense, just essential Tele. Straight up 1950s, just like me, so it’s perfect for my old school C&W style of playing. Your review is also no nonsense. I’m now a subscriber. Thanks. 👍🏻
Guys, some constructive criticism, the reviews are great but that “earth tremor” transitions you have recently adopted are really annoying, please make them stop!
@@XPhantomLord Sure, but what specs? An american-made tele with vintage specs, you absolutely CANNOT get one for this price. You need to compare like-with-like
@@JohnnyFriendly they no longer have the American Vintage anymore from what I've seen, they dropped it in favor of the American Original series. im sure you can probably find some out in the used market, it's similar price to the American Pro 2 series which is like 1500, if you want a true vintage classic, custom shop is your only option. other than that, i think the Vintera series is the best your gonna get without spending custom shop money, but your right. ya you definitely aren't getting a true vintage classic for this price, still i think for the price of the Vintera series, there pretty good for what you get.
I used to think that...now I'm opposite. I love a huge, oversized headstock...but its for a strat..a tele is best left as a tele. Plus, there's a feel to it, when you run your hand to fret zero, along the back of the neck, when your hand hits the hilt... I like that feel - on a tele - the skinny, almost pointy headstock.. Anyway.. each to our own! But ..."just for funsies," try that point of view on for size, and see if it won't start to seem alright..
If you want the big headstock Telecaster, the 1970s Telecaster Deluxe has it. That guitar has two humbucker pickups though, and not a single coil humbucker configuration like the Telecaster Custom that John demonstrated.
I think I like the modern humbucker better which goes against what I normally think. That said, I'd take the 50's Tele because of the bridge pickup sound.
on the tonal difference between the 50s and 60s tele... don't forget the bigsby will change it up considerably too. Every guitar I have used with one has a little extra zing on the top end
I wish I could find a room that hasn't been opened since the 50's. I'd get some of that air and put it underneath my pickguard. The tone would be unbelievable.
Premier Guitar has some of the best reviews, rig rundowns and interviews on the internet and Jon is a player's player--entertaining, cool and knowledgeable. Just lose the little video filter that makes it look like the video is an old film or something, not needed and distracting.
The Telecaster Deluxe with the two Humbuckers (as does the two humbucker Vintera, 9.25 radius) has a Stratocaster neck. The one humbucker, a Telecaster Custom, has a Telecaster neck, so there is a bit of difference.
John thanks for the new/vs vintage Wide Range humbucker comparison! God, no CONTEST in my opinion. Why can't Fender get closer to that real ballsy '70s Wide Range sound, and why wouldn't they want to?? I don't get it.
The American Original series uses the transitional logo, probably why they didn't use it on the vintera, The original wide range pickups used a cunife magnet that is basically extinct now, that's why they changed them to bar magnets.
i've played a lot of telecasters and theres something really special about these guitars. basically i looked like 3:43 when i played that 50s model. what's with the transitions, man
Every major guitar brand does that nowadays, just think of Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker... if you want originality you should look to brands like Music Man
Most people want them to be vintage correct, that’s the problem, they expect Fender and Gibson to be exactly as they were. When they come out with new designs they don’t sell enough. Gotta look into Music Man like he said or the other big names for new stuff.
How will theCostom shop stay in business ? Fender can not make their mind up what direction the want to go... I have played Fender 50 Yrs.. Sorry the cost on shops guitars ate not worth 3000.
On the 60s tele I really like the vharacteristics of that piece of Pau ferro it's got a nice swerve on the 7th fret and it's a bit darker. I'm not a fan of all the red in Pau ferro. IDK man nothing sounds like true wide range pickups.

So can you get the red one with the bigsby, or really just get the full setup from the one with the bigsby but with the maple neck. I loved the one in the middle with the bigsby, but I just can't stand the rosewood fingerboard on a telecaster. Is there a bigsby model that has a maple neck would be the best way of working my question.
I don’t think they were bigger necks cause they didn’t have a truss rod , but the opposite, the necks were big and comfortable and tuneful, and just didn’t need truss rods cause they didn’t move. In the later years people wanted slimmer necks and they needed truss rods
Oh funk yeah. I'll be grabbing that fat tele version for sure. I have a weakness for telecasters. After I made a parts tele with a roasted maple neck, I've been wanting another slab fretboard.
These aren't jump cuts, they're transitions. Jump cuts are the small cuts you see in popular RUclips videos that remove the pauses and "uh/umm" from a person's speech
So not the huge bigsby trem or the different pickups or the different bridge change the tone. No it’s 30 grams of rosewood that does it. So guitarded!!!
Well Telecaster with individual adjustable saddles also sound perfectly like a Telecaster so your point about the three saddles thing is irrelevant IMHO
@@benallmark9671 yes I definitely would. Wide range humbuckers have a really unique treble response. They sound brighter and cleaner almost like beefier tele pickups. They are essential to the sound of those 70s guitars.
Not a fan of the WR Fender reissue's, not bad but a bit dull & bland. Offer them with Lollars, Novak or Creamery WR's cause a lot of people change them anyway. Or do the extra mile Fender, you can do it!
If that pau wood was on anything but a guitar I would love it. But because it's a fretboard I hate it lol... Can we go back to starwipes? Those zombie cuts are really not suiting the vibe
That 50s model sounds incredible. Love that they’ve made this range much more specific to the eras. Very cool

Just bought the 70's Vintera with an added Bigsby. Plays great. I love how beefy, yet crisp it sounds in comparison to the 50s/60s models.
John is a natural at this. You can tell when someone really is passionate about what they're talking about, and John is no exception.

Had to quit watching because the earth tremor effect is so annoying.

Been playing on acoustics only for the last 12 years, but this 50’s vintera really speaks to me…great review!
Wow, this video transition that makes it look like the camera person got electrocuted certainly gets annoying around the 150th time it's being used.
annoying since the second time it happened
Great job John! The background of each guitars era was a nice touch!! Keep the videos coming!! 👍
In-depth and interesting as always. Great review John.
What you played on the Black Tele is among the coolest stuff I’ve heard you play.
I'm a bit late to the party... but I've just ordered the 60's model in sunburst with the Bigsby. Can't wait for it to arrive..!!!
I love a Bigsby on a tele, they look and sound so cool!
Fantastic review full of a ton of information about vintage Fender guitars! Nice job!
The Keef tele looks the coolest by far, but the 50s sounds best.
Definitely
The 60’s bridge pickup with a 50’s neck pickup would be a killer combo.
Sounds like a Fender's Twisted Tele set to me. You should try it, if you didn't yet.
I played a Vintera Strat and loved it. Felt great, sounded great, great intonation. $900-$1000 is a bit much for a MIM Fender though.
Definitely what I think. For that price you can get a used American one.
You can even get a NEW American one for a couple hundred more now, lol..

Well, thank God you're gone
either the pickguard on the red tele is crooked or the bridge pickup plate is not on straight. that bugs me

Keith's Blackguard "Micawber" is a '54 FYI.
Is there a specific reason that the Vintera 60’s has a different ash tray?
I may have answered my own question. It may need the width to accommodate the six individual bridges
