    Celebrating 67 years of iconic Land Rover production, a unique vehicle has been built to commemorate the UK production of the two-millionth Series Land Rover and Defender.
    With a bespoke design and an all-star cast of special guests helping to complete the momentous build, ‘Defender 2,000,000’ has been created to be a tribute to almost seven decades of Land Rover production in the Solihull plant, UK.
    In December 2015, collectors and Defender fans will be given the opportunity to own this unique piece of Land Rover’s history when it is auctioned by prestigious and globally renowned auction house, Bonhams. Reflecting Defender’s heritage, all proceeds will be donated to Land Rover’s humanitarian and conservation partners - the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
    During May 2015, a team of life-long Land Rover Defender fans were invited to join the Solihull production line to help build this one-of-a-kind vehicle, including adventurer Bear Grylls.
    Representatives from the IFRC and Born Free also made the journey to Solihull to fit their part to the vehicle, including actress and founder of the Born Free Foundation Virginia McKenna OBE.
    The Land Rover vehicle will be publicly unveiled by Bonhams at Goodwood Festival of Speed, being held 25-28 June. After completing a schedule of public appearances throughout the rest of the year, ‘Land Rover Defender 2,000,000’ will be auctioned at a prestigious charity event, held at the Bonhams auction house in New Bond Street, London on Wednesday 16 December.
    The Land Rover ‘Defender 2,000,000’ vehicle features a plethora of distinctive finishing touches. A map of Red Wharf Bay - where the design for the original Land Rover was first drawn in the sand - is engraved into the aluminium fender, which contrasts with the exterior Indus Silver satin paint. A unique Land Rover ‘no 2,000,000’ badge sits on the rear of the vehicle, which is mirrored on the interior console. The design is finished with Santorini Black wheels and wheel arches, roof, door hinges, grille and mirror caps.
    Inside, the Land Rover leather seats also feature the ‘Red Wharf Bay’ graphic and ‘no 2,000,000’ logos have been stitched on the headrests. A bespoke aluminium plaque, signed by everyone who helped to assemble the vehicle is fitted to the driver’s seat plinth. On the front and rear, S90 HUE registration plates - a reference to the first ever pre-production Land Rover, registration ‘HUE 166’ - complete this one-of-a-kind Land Rover Defender.
    Production of the original Land Rover Series I began at the famous Lode Lane facility in 1947 ahead of its launch at the Amsterdam Motor Show on 30 April 1948. Since then two million examples of the Land Rover Series I, Land Rover Series II Land Rover Series III and Land Rover Series Defender have been produced at Solihull.
    Limited Edition Defenders
    The three hotly anticipated limited edition Defender models celebrate a different element of the vehicle’s versatile character.
    The exclusive Land Rover Defender Autobiography Edition promises more performance, luxury and comfort than ever before thanks to its comprehensive equipment list, unique duo-tone paintwork, full Windsor leather upholstery and a power upgrade from 122PS to 150PS. Land Rover Defender Exclusivity comes as standard as only 80 Land Rover Defender Autobiography Editions will be available in the UK. It will be produced exclusively as a Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon and priced from £61,845.
    The Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition is inspired by early Land Rover models and mixes nostalgic design cues with modern creature comforts. It will be identified by distinctive Grasmere Green paintwork and a contrasting white roof. A Land Rover Defender heritage grille and HUE 166 graphics, recalling the registration plate of the first ever pre-production Land Rover Defender nicknamed ‘Huey’, also identify the Land Rover Defender Heritage model. It hits showrooms from August with production limited to 400 in the UK. Land Rover Defender Heritage Prices will start from £27,800.

      I'd wager that the Defender was just too out of date for the ever changing safety and emissions regulations that once hampered car manufacturers. It might cost too much to bring it up to speed. If I could find one here in the states, a late model, I'd get one over the Jeep. I like the way the Defender rides on its coils and I like the position of the long gear shifter.

    What a shame... an absolute ICON of a vehicle now sold to Tata Motors in India. First order of business was to drop the Defender, and they're going reportedly bring it back in 2018 as a piece of shit molded plastic SUV that will be about as much "Defender" as a new FJ Cruiser is a legendary Toyota Land Cruiser from the 70s. It will even come complete with a molded plastic front bumper that will be painted like a skid plate....lol, and have an IFS suspension with about 2" of articulation.What a friggin joke! How sad. This is truly a shame, and the death of a legend. Can I get a minute of silence?

    • @BR-cg5jc
      @BR-cg5jc 8 лет назад

      Come on.. just Google 2018 Defender. They've already created the concept. So how can you say its not going to look like that. Its just going to be another reinvented urban yuppie SUV with no real offroad capabilities at all. About the most it will handle is a speed bump when mom drops the kids off at school.

    • @STATEmax

      That's the magazines concept of how they think it will look...not the company design

    • @BR-cg5jc
      @BR-cg5jc 8 лет назад

      Ya, so has anyone else that's looked at the concept. Unless you're going to tell me that you work for Tata and that they ditched the concept that's all over the net, and are going to make a defender with solid axles front and rear with selectable locking diffs, aluminum body, a more ergonomic interior with AC and etc, and a diesel engine with some decent power... then there's nothing more to say. The smartest thing Tata could do is to build an offroad beast with tons of after market upgrades, and one that would meet North American safety standards, so that it could compete against the Jeep Wrangler. Drive down the road, and that's all you see here. Jeep after Jeep all fitted with aftermarket shit and although I'm not a fan, I have to say they look great. The Wrangler is the number 1 selling SUV here. Its a huge opportunity for Tata to recreate something that would take over that market. At a minimum, it has to have a good diesel engine, and solid axles. Without that, its just another piece of crap SUV. We don't need another BMW X5... we need a capable offroad truck that appeals to every guy out there with a sense of adventure.
      How awesome would it be if it came with portal axles as an option?
      Trust me... in the end its just going to be a disappointment.

      +GhettoMist I hate to agree with you. But owning several of different years, you really get good at repairs. They are not reliable but the parts are quite cheep and it is made to be repairable in the field. They have a real character and you have to work to maintain it and understand it's foibles. If you look to places like the Australian outback where you can only have reliability, you will mainly see Toyota. I really hope the landy gets a reboot at some point with a design that will pass the modem crash tests, but hopefully simple enough for the average person to maintain.

    the finish to a great era a great car and some pretty dam big shoes to fill however hard they try they cant make a car that every one from the farmer to the queen will drive. land rover have now lost that and how ever hard they try they will not get that back it kind of feels like they shot them selves in the foot the second defender will always be exactly that.....second. BUT if they can fill those enormous shoes then i will be the first to open my wallet for them.

    There're about 20 pieces Defenders left here in Land Rover Malaysia... of course a RHD... Assembled locally with shit most precision, the legend turned into POS for Malaysian Defender fans, with of course Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia not even stocking a damn piece of Defender spares in their centers. Solihull should've investigated the Malaysian capabilities / shit quality control before allowing them to produce Defenders. Proud to own a shitty 2016 Puma on the other hand...

    It is beyond any normal thinking mind that takes an interest in manufacturing to try and comprehend why for some god fore saken reason this vehicle was frozen in time and allowed to die a slow death , the Australian Army has just replaced their entire Land Rovers with Mercs , is its because the British have some sort of problem with modernity , back in the good old days when Noah was a kid and the Brits actually owned some of their industry they developed a world beater as we all know called the Mini , same thing , well thank God the Huns got hold of it and it shows what happens when ownership gets taken away from the moribund Brits .
