- This movie is a big part of why I'm where I am today. THE WIZ! Sometimes I have to go back and remind myself to believe in what I feel in my heart in my mind and in my soul. I have to listen to God's voice and not let the troubles of the world drown it out. 'We've come this far by faith" Keep believing in yourself y'all and keep moving toward you dreams and being the best you can be.
"If you believe"-----"Go head an believe all these things", "go head an believe"! I love these lines!
Forty years later, this still brings tears to my eyes.
😍😍😍
Just believe on yourself
Me too!!
Me too
ME RN!
Lena was 61 years old in "The Wiz". And still gorgeous!
Simply gorgeous
Rap on brotha
Ain't no damn vanilla shit in this master pice
She was 71!
@@stevenbarmore9333 Per Wikipedia Lena was born in 1917. And the Wiz was filmed in 1978. A difference of 61 years
The sparkling in her eyes out shines the ones on her dress.
One of the most beautiful moments in film history!
Dear Director,/Producer of THE WIZ...I'm 53 years old. It is 2023..🎁This musical is and was a true gift from God. It has been my favorite and most inspirational theatrical performance to this date in my life. 🙏🏾The emotions it evokes still very true, real the lessons and wisdom continue to be invaluable. Believe in yourself! Hats off to all performers.❤ Mrs Lena Horne🌹🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹🌹.. you are the Supreme Queen of GRACE AND TALENT. ❤🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹Rest in God's arms.❤
Believe in yourself. 45 years later and this is even a more inspiring message
Class, sophistication, elegance and a refined fire and sparkle that radiates from her spirit.
Lena went to church! Something got a'hold of her!!! She sang that...that's a perfect audition song by the way...
YES YES YES YES YES!
The best performance of the entire movie, and that’s saying a LOT!!! The Wiz was jam packed with crazy talent, but Lena brought down the house with this one!
I saw the movie at a theatre in NYC and Lena got a standing ovation while singing this song on the silver screen. I've never seen anything like that since. The woman could sing her ass off. Also, I saw her one-woman show, "The Lady and Her Music" in 1981 on Broadway. She sang for two hours and never had an intermission. Awesome!!!
Watching this movie when it first came out was the first I'd ever heard her sing. I knew who she was, but that was it. When the song was over I said "now I know what Fred Sandford was talking about "! "The Horn" blew my socks off!!!
TIL THIS DAY no one has ever even matched this performance of this song. Legend!!!!
Oohh yeah!!
Oohh yeah!!!! My favorite part ❤
Love the Wiz, though every part was amazing, this performance was the most inspirational to me. I think about this song when I need a pep. Saw this with my mom in the late 70's (1978?). She gave me the history of every performer and quizzed me later. RIP mom.
Incomparable!!
she was a timeless beauty and talented R.i.P miss Horne
This was an amazing performance from the legendary movie queen, Lena Horne. Once again she proved with one scene to be the highlight of The Wiz in the same way she did 30 years before in all those spectacular MGM Musicals. And she did this despite the fact the film was meant to be a Star vehicle for Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor.
Years ago ,I was really lost looking for an answer to my existence and my prayers were heard when I was guided to find this beautiful masterpiece interpreted by this phenomenal artist ,If you believe ,everything is possible ,the lyrics of this song are the most powerful words I’ve ever heard .Now I believe and I feel at home. Thanks
These beautiful babies are now in their 40s
What a powerful performance. Every child should see this video!! No, Everyone should see this video!!!!!
Sheer magic!! No one can compare to this lovely lady with swag!
Nobody does or did it better than our Ms. Lena Horne 🌺
You will NEVER be forgotten 💕
I loved this version of the wiz and all of the actors, they were Superb! When Ms. Lena Horne sang that song "Believe in yourself" sent chills through my spine. She sang that song with much conviction, because she knew what it took through the years to get where she was, and she's to be applauded. I just played that song over and over and will play it again once i'm finished writing. I shared this on my daughter's page. She's a writer, a christian counselor for women/young girls, very creative in many areas. We're from NOLA, overcoming many barriers since 2005/hurricane katrina, but we never gave up on ourselves. My daughter had to place her education on hold until after we relocated, but later graduated and received her Bachelor's of Science in Business Technical Management. She met her husband in Texas, married in 2011,have a beautiful 9Y/0 daughter, have a very good job,had their home built from the ground up,and her husband is a gospel minister. Listening to this song brought about so many blessed memories. When God is your main focus, you never take your eyes off him. We weathered the storm by the grace of God,and He never took His eyes off us. Believe in yourself, and faithfully trust God always, and through Him all things are made complete. :)
Miss Horne has inhabited my life from before I was born. My parents heard her voice singing at the Latin Casino on their first date in Philadelphia. That is before the “Latin” moved to Cherry Hill, NJ where we would eventually live.
This recording of “If You Believe” got me through one of the darker times in my life. She never Sang from any other place than the deepest resources of her enormous heart and spirit. I saw her on Broadway in her one woman show “The Lady and Her Music” and took my dear parents to it as well where she strutting her stuff… The finest stuff that any singer, actress and humanitarian has ever received from our maker. Miss Warren continues to touch me in the lives of so many today, tomorrow and into the future forever. It was an honor to know you through your artistry, Miss Horne. I am giving your music to friends to touch their hearts as you always touch mine. Blessings to you our dear angel, Lena.
The great Lena Horne, fabulous!
Lena sung this!!! I believe😍😍😍😍
I believe, historically there have only been a few singers of her statue.
One of the most beautiful and talented women the world has ever known. Truly an American treasure straight outta Brooklyn. Lena came to do work! When she sings YES at 1:43 you knew she meant business and that she was talking to you.
an annointed singer and the message was sent!
Oh yes, @ 1:43💙💖, I felt that!!!, Also from 1:51 to 1:55, Miss Horne's serving & her movement & expression moved me to tears.... " GO AHEAD & BELIEVE IN ALL THESE THINGS, NOT BECAUSE I TOLD YOU TO" 💧💧💧😪 REST WELL, MISS HORNE 🙏🙏🙏.

The gloriously wonderful and talented Ms. Lena Horne . Exceptional performance ! 🌟👏👏🌼
I once saw an interview where Lena said she wasn’t much of a singer but this song says otherwise. My grandmother loved her and I loved her singing and acting as well.

I didn't know Lena Horne before seeing "The Wiz." In those days, it would take something very special to make me STOP thinking about the marvelous Miss Diana Ross...when I saw this I was like "WHO'S THAT??!!!!!" The message and meaning of this song -- and the majesty of Miss Horne's performance -- has stayed with me all this time.

I still get goosebumps when I hear her sing. Talk about water works ! No dry eyes in in the house anytime she sang. I felt her words and her music every time . I've been watching her documentary 😭 , it's beautiful and I'm so blessed to have heard her sing since I was a child. My mother loved her , she reminds me of my mother I guess that why zi loved to watch her. She came out on Sesame Street once in the late 60's early 70's . I was enamored by her , so beautiful .

Just like JHud's performance in Dreamgirls singing "AndI am telling you" deserved the Oscar. So, did this - Lena Horne should have been nominated - she is singing and acting at the same time. Fierce.
