Hard to pick a fave. TC Electronics Vortex is pretty good, Boss Hi Band is great. I tend to use them specifically to get EVH effects and the Ronni LeTekro tone.
Boss BF-2. I had the Mooer Elec Lady because i wanted the vintage EHX Mistress "Gilmour/Summers" sound, but never really bonded with it. The BF-2 works well on my board for bass and also guitar and I actually don't use the Reso/Feedback, so i guess it actually a chorus, but for some reason i have bought several analog choruses and have got rid of them all, and the BF-2 has stayed.
Past FX not only knew the assignment; Past FX also understood it as well. The 80/A has that character & vibe which every amazing flanger pedal should have. Well done vid as always
i had to completely readjust my approach to modulation when i got into flangers. Using chorus and phaser, i’d set them to a subtle setting and then stack them for something think and interesting, and i’d do my best Portishead impression with tremolo, but after getting my BF-2 clone my mind was blown.
Speaking of comb-filtering, back in the cassette 4 track days I tried to replicate the solo tone from Corrosion of Conformity's "Clean My Wounds" by recording one take with a Boss GE-7 eq pedal's even numbered sliders all the way down, then a double track with the odd numbered sliders all the way down. Don't recall how successful that technique was, but may be worth a revisit. 🤔
For me, it's the BF2, it's such a versatile jack of all trades flanger, my favorite rotary style sound, and up until I got the CE2W, my go to for chorusing. That being said, the Hi Band Flanger was also very high up on my list of favorite flangers, I had to sell it because I was putting it on literally everything, and for the sake of excusing me from having to learn self control, I got rid of it.
Considering how spot on the MN3007 chorus is to the deluxe version, I’m curious how you find this one compares to its more expensive sibling? Awesome video, modulation pedals are my favorite to try out because they just become SO dynamic and expressive.
@@LeonTodd hell yeah. It does the busted-ass faux sitar thing, and that’s the extreme setting that matters the most to me. Got mine on the way and cannot WAIT to berate audiences with scifi madness.
As someone who is guilty of using flangers as only jet plane swoosh effects, I found this eye-- or ear-- opening. Need to start twisting knobs. Very cool sounds.
@@LeonTodd Ever since getting my Helix, I've sort of abandoned pedals and used the effects in there. I've settled on using their model of the MXR 117 and sometimes the A/DA.
Ive never had a flanger pedal😮 before finding digital....when id go off to buy a pedal, id always only have enough for one pedal...so id pick a phaser...as i know how to work a phaser with heavy distortion.
What's your favourite Flanger?

My band opened up for Pat Travers and he autographed my A/DA flanger. No big deal. Probably mentioned this before because I’m lonely
That tone is gonna land you a gig in Aladdin’s palace🤣
Now getting into the indoneeshin sound. Sounds like a sitar. Pretty cool! 😎👍
So many freaky, haunting sounds out of one pedal.
As always, it’s been an education Leon. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think this is the umpty-squat'millionth time I've said this: you raw dogging that Lifeson chord on your videos makes my day.

I feel like the BF-2 circuit is such a great intro to the magic of Flangers
@@LeonTodd oh absolutely, it can so subtle, jet plane and weird submarine sounds in spades.
I love this video! This is what I want from gear videos!
Awesome! Thank you!

I love stuff like that! Might try it myself

Classic BOSS ease of use too!

I imagine some of the really extreme settings may be a bit different, but much like the ensemble this absolutely passes the smell test

That sitar idea is useful ! Need it for Territories by Rush
Love that song!
Is the white button the same as the Bass Button on the PBF?
I believe so.
Leon. How did the Headfirst Alta 100 sound in person? Is the gain fizzy? How is the note separation and clarity? Is it tight?
Depends how you set the negative feedback, bright and sat controls. Can do the sticky 80's thing and more modern brutal stuff with a boost.
"Enhance. Enhance. Enhance." sorry, couldn't resist lol
hahaha today's video bought to you by enhance!
I love that split second where you can't tell if someone is playing a King's X song or "Limelight" 😄 No wrong answer
😜
Flanger Danger. I’ve become a bigger flange fan as I get older
This is the way!
You can chorus a flange but you cant flange a chorus
Hahaha this is perfect!

Hard to go wrong with the one knob Phase 90
@@LeonTodd I had the green boss one, with several modes.
Hahaha, I wanted a phaser but bought me a flanger. Always made me feel a little bit sad. I ended up selling it for a delay 😅
