- A wonderful gathering of brilliant generations: tenorist Sam Taylor (left) and mentor Larry McKenna (right), with Steve Ash, piano; Neal Miner, string bass; Fukushi Tainaka, drums. Recorded at Smalls Jazz Club in New York City on June 23, 2019, by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.w...).
Larry is a living legend. you'll never hear a wrong note out of him. Pure joy listening to him. He is pure class and a dignified gentleman. Thank God his influence is spreading to the younger cats...this is the good stuff, and love to see him smile..he's having fun!
True Original Jazz Gangsters. Larry McKenna’s compadres put up some good quality clips and session dates worth seeking out. It’s endearing and touching to see and hear Sam’s clear admiration of the elder 🎷man, as well as his own well-hewn tone and good ideas. This is how it’s handed down. Very nice, thanks to all.
RIP dear sir.
Larrys solo was one off the best you will ever hear ! Hard Boppers look out.
