Yasser Seirawan is the best teacher, if he tought me when i was young, i were GM now, I'm sure! His lessons are instructive AND funny, the best combination for a teacher. Thanks a lot
This guy makes chess so fun and sensible. I have begun to grasp concepts by watching Mr. Seirawan that I was never able to understand before. He's just so pleasant as well
You know, I've always thought Yasser speaks in the form of a perfect essay. Listen up, students... this is how you simultaneously fulfill the word count, but also lock-in the reader. Excellent speaker, excellent master of his craft, and an inspiration for my chess as well.
There are a lot of teachers in this world. It’s rare, but there are those rare few exceptions, of those who have a true gift for teaching. And rarer still is someone who not only has a true gift for teaching, but was/is also one the best in their field. Yasser is a real rarity. To not only have been one of the best in the entire world at chess, but to also be able to teach it so effectively to people across all levels of the game, from beginner to expert. Truly one of a kind, and everyone who is even remotely interested in chess is very fortunate that many of Yasser’s lectures are available online or in his books.
Omg so funny, I watched this video and I go play some chess and my opponent played the b6 oppening and after Sb4 I snapped Kf8 and the game was great and Mr Seirewan is my hero. Kf8! solves all the problems and with fixed centre you don't really need castling. Great lecture!
I'm in love with the Fianchetto and quickly rose over 1000 in chess rating, steadily climbing with a high success win rate. This video will nicely help me get to higher levels against better players that know how to defend against this tactic.
Love Mr. Seirawan's lessons and thank you for sharing. It's just that the way he pronounces "fianchetto" sounds weird to me. It should be more like "fiancketto" or something like this.
fianchetto is an italian word, and means "little side", and you're rigth it is pronounced fianketto, the word that seirawan(i love his lessons anyway) says , it's written "fianceto" and means nothing.... (by a random italian guy)
giuseppe miosi that is false. The word he says is obviously "Fianchetto" pronounced incorrectly. It means the same thing because he is in fact intending(thus meaning) Fianchetto. If he were in Italy and were to say it with the hard k, he'd probably get corrected but they would know what he was saying because it doesn't "mean nothing". If I mispronounce something, I'm not saying nothing; I am saying what I intend to say albeit incorrectly.
I played Chess tournaments all over the US in the 70-80s and it was pronounced like Seirawan does here - everywhere in the US. Langauge is living and drifts. Oh well. Take that with a pound of salt, a gallon of milk and stay two yards away. :)
@@ronj9448 it is a very easy variation. I make for sure terrible mistakes when I pronounce english words, but in this case it is really easy to pronounce it properly and sounds much better, at least to my ears😃. Fianchetto derives from fianco, in english this word is flank, with k as well, this is why I think it sounds better for english speaking people too.
@@giovannicorno1247 Thanks Mr. Corno. I think for many Americans , you see the "CHE" and you're playing "CHE"ss and not "KESS". :) Think about “j'adoube” !!! I heard that six different ways at least. Haha.
IemonandIime , you mean the Mile's comment about "moral victories"? If so, the point is that when you play chess not just online for fun but in major tournaments like that, then the stress is higher and you LOVE to get "inside someone's head". That's what I believe his comment was acknowledging.
The joke is Miles would play b6 against everything. Seirawan was one of the few (that I know of) that wanted to stop this "antic". B6 is a hypermodern concept of attacking the center indirectly and wasn't considered a strong move among the many choices of a first move. By playing that Miles was thumbing his nose (or flipping the bird) to his world class opponents. By playing g3 Seirawan was acknowledging all of this and implying that it WAS a strong enough early move to warrant stopping it instead of trying to crush it.
+Salokin92 No, it's 'fee n cheto' or 'fee n ceto' I think the latter one is the proper one, but most English and American players just say 'fee n cheto'.
Salokin92 Surely you were not talking about the spelling? How in hell did you think a French word was spelt 'feign shadow'? And since you knew how it was pronounced, how could it be shadow? Thus, you must have been talking about - as I was - the pronunciation, not the spelling. :)

Walküre Unruh l corroborate. Absolutely a unique and fantastic teacher!

This is how a lecture should be,,, a lot of ideas being thrown out,,, learned a lot,,, thanks Chief!
One of the best chess teachers on RUclips. Thanks again for the lecture!

Another great video by Yassar. This could come in handy when I play the Queen's Indian Defense.
Yasser is the Best teacher ever

The YOUR TURN!! really startled me ngl
6:14 what about the e pawn? It looks kind of annoying. What to do about this?
As a low rated player, this concept is something I get myself in trouble with quite a bit. Good lecture.
great lecture...GM Yasser thumbs up..always enjoyed ur lectures and also the guys in STLchess club
I like when the best moves are f3 f6! Ben must be fuming :P
You're right! He has shown this game before, but I still love it! :)

Marvelous teacher
Bob Ross of chess and I'm loving it
What is serrwans table's angle in this lecture? (Puzzle)
Play at 1,5 speed. You're welcome.
OT; Great lecture!
This guy is amazing
Gotta love this guy's style - he's like the Mister Rogers of chess. And that's a good thing.
He didn't mention that when Tony Miles beat Karpov he played 1.H3
this guy is the bob ross of chess I'm melting into my chair

+winter6470 yes he always mispronounces 'fianchetto'.

Fianchetto is Italian word, in our language "CH" = K therefore correct pronunciation is fianketto.
Ahh fiachetto sounds a lot better for me

I think when white has a kingside fianchetto it makes no sense for black to fianchetto queenside since it would lose rook/bishop

What's the name of the song?
thank you very much :) :) :)
Born in a chess gettoo, playin fianchettoo 😀😁🤘🎶🎶
We should read "ch" in Fianchetto as a "K"...
Felice Pollano correct. But Yasser is such a great teacher that it does not matter.
Except nobody does in the US. Live long and prosper.
@@ronj9448 sure, sorry for attempting to improve your knowledge.
@@felixpollan Better luck next time. You have to understand the context in which something is executed or you'll always be confused.
is he high? xD
only at home
The cameraman needs to concentrate on the projection screen so that one can actually get the lesson...falls asleep at the wheel...frustrating..~!
thats why theres a screen just listen to the squares
lol I always thought it was called "feign shadow" or something like that x)
+Salokin92 No, it's 'fee n cheto' or 'fee n ceto' I think the latter one is the proper one, but most English and American players just say 'fee n cheto'.

Yeah, wasn't really awake when I commented :P thx anyway
+The Anti-Theist actually it is italian and pronounced fian-ketto but Seirawan can get away with mispronouncing it because he is a top GM!
Wish he would pronounce finachetto properly.
And you can't even spell it 😂
moral victory?
