Lions at my house | Safari from home | My wild life | Everyday bush living

We were having a late lunch on the veranda when we heard a stampede of hooves. Initially, we couldn't identify the sounds, but a loud growl from a lion, and anxious grunts from buffalo, made us realize that lions were chasing a herd of buffalo.
Of course, we left our lunch on the table, jumped into our vehicle, and started looking for the lions.
The bush was dense, and one couldn't see deeper into the vegetation clearly. We followed the dust clouds, but couldn't find them. After driving up and down, criss-cross on every road close by, we found the lions as they appeared from the bushes just below the house.
Initially, we saw one young male, a huge lion! Then he walked up to two other males, and as we followed them, more lions joined, until we saw a total of nine lions.
Living in the bush can be very exciting, as you never know what might surprise you next. I can honestly say, lunch was forgotten the moment that we heard that first growl!!
