I’ve got OCD as well and one of the weirdest rituals/Compulses I had was this one where everytime I became aware of my own existence and happened to be near a wall I would be condemned to slamming my head backwards. I still deal with this one but I’m aware enough of it that I can try to switch it to something else
This makes me feel a lot better about having weird rituals because of my OCD. Mine are more related to cleaning and checking but it still feels good to hear someone talk openly about it. Would love to hear more about it honestly!

You would never know someone has OCD until you get close to them. It's a very private disorder and most sufferers realize their obsessions aren't actually real threats.
SuperHurra Most obsessions yes. However when I had OCD I had a very mentally taxing obsession and ritual. It was with intrusive thoughts (obsession) and then compulsive confessing of said thoughts (compulsive). Despite having no control over what my brain would think of I felt incredibly guilty and if I didn’t tell someone and apologize I’d just be in a panic-attack state until I did. I was 11 and it lasted like this until about 14. Worst years of my life. It still crops up every know and then. So while it wasn’t necessarily a physically harmful obsession, it was incredibly exhausting and emotionally damaging. While I can’t speak for Charlie I can imagine the stress of not adhering to the ritual and how difficult it must have been to bring himself out of the delusion, especially after it had been going for 2 years.

I became an actor, and I learned how to turn my intrusive thoughts into jokes to make people happy. Now they don’t really bother me anymore, and when they pop up, I just turn them into humor.

I had the weirdest ritual when I was like 10, I would sneak into my parent's car and forward a specific cassette to a very specific time and then sit perfectly still in the passenger seat while that part of the tape played. It wasn't even music, it was some audio book reading of some Disney shit horribly translated into my language.
Every time my legs touch, I have to squeeze them really hard an even number of times. If one of my arms swings behind me "too far", I have to pull it behind me with the other hand until it's stretched past my waist. At least I'm pretty flexible now! And it's way better than having to stand up, sit down, and repeat 20 times before I can sit in my office chair.
Just joining the OCD group over here. Some of my rituals involve doing things, for instance turning on/off a switch an even number of times (never odd). If I touch the switch or it changes position say...3 or 5 times i need to reset the counter to an even number and turn it on/off until it reaches 4 or other even number. If the switch or whatever it is is double I may requiere to turn it on/off in a symmetrical way. You can't imagine how many minutes of my day I lose doing this crap...another rituals include holding my breath or staying completely quiet during certain parts of a video or ads. So yep, you're not alone ^^'
It killed me from like 8 to 17, I used to sleep to avoid it and my intrusive thoughts literally entered my dreams. I'm so glad that I don't also have depression because I am absolutely sure I would have killed myself. Like no doubts. Like, bye me! I never did therapy during that time because I couldn't afford it and I didn't talk to basically anyone about it and eventually it's like I just burned out all of the neurons responsible and just stopped caring about it at all. Like, over a weekend it was just gone, it was weird. It's clearly very desensitizing because even now I'm numb to any fear of physical harm really, I've gotten more nervous in physical confrontation about getting yelled at than getting punched, which is clearly idiotic but like that's my sense of things now and I wonder if it's served to stunt my emotional maturity because I have no motivation unless I'm on adderall or something. It was so bad and one day a switch flipped and I just became a carefree nihilistic fuck and I hate that. Now obviously there's probably more to that than ocd and I have add also (hence the addy) but that's definitely part of it. I think it was something like high neuroticism, low focus and low motivation to literally just low focus and motivation. Honestly I consider it lucky that I have add because adderall is the only reason I'm even close to functioning at this point

@@commasama1098 people REALLY shit talk adderall because of its negative effects, and like I get that, but it really is life changing for so many reasons. I seriously hope you get better and manage to cope with the intrusive thoughts. I know you've probably heard this 1000(0???) times but one of the things that tends to help loads of people is to just allow yourself to think about them instead of fighting those things off, to try to remain rational and not give in to the compulsions associated. It sucks, and you'll probably feel like a monster, but it really takes away from their power over you. Whether or not any of this applies to you obviously depends on the nature of the thoughts, of course, but they definitely don't have anything to do with what you like or who you are even if you have reason to think they do. It's probably dogmatic and I'm sure you've been told that by a therapist or like, anyone with intrusive thoughts, and maybe you already practice this but like, take some time out of a day to just stop fighting them and let it happen ya know? But you really can't allow yourself to fight them or care about them, at all, because that only serves to make you think about them more and strengthen that behavior, you have to think about them on purpose, (and almost as often as you have them) that's the secret. I don't know if I'm just hitting some basic shit here but people can go their entire lives without developing that habit because of just how much they hate those thoughts or themselves for thinking them, and sometimes they even grow to like being sad as it can kinda become part of their identity as paradoxical as that sounds. Just some advice, and trust me whatever thoughts you're having are not worse than even most of the others. SORRY FOR THE NOVEL :)))

I’ve got OCD as well and one of the weirdest rituals/Compulses I had was this one where everytime I became aware of my own existence and happened to be near a wall I would be condemned to slamming my head backwards. I still deal with this one but I’m aware enough of it that I can try to switch it to something else

The difference between a 16 year old and a 25 year old's brain chemistry is absolutely massive.
You would never know someone has OCD until you get close to them. It's a very private disorder and most sufferers realize their obsessions aren't actually real threats.
SuperHurra Most obsessions yes. However when I had OCD I had a very mentally taxing obsession and ritual. It was with intrusive thoughts (obsession) and then compulsive confessing of said thoughts (compulsive). Despite having no control over what my brain would think of I felt incredibly guilty and if I didn’t tell someone and apologize I’d just be in a panic-attack state until I did. I was 11 and it lasted like this until about 14. Worst years of my life. It still crops up every know and then. So while it wasn’t necessarily a physically harmful obsession, it was incredibly exhausting and emotionally damaging. While I can’t speak for Charlie I can imagine the stress of not adhering to the ritual and how difficult it must have been to bring himself out of the delusion, especially after it had been going for 2 years.

bob test Unfortunately, it just comes with time. The right therapist, psychiatrist and medication helps, as well as finding an outlet. I became an actor, and I learned how to turn my intrusive thoughts into jokes to make people happy. Now they don’t really bother me anymore, and when they pop up, I just turn them into humor.

Holy frick i thought i was the only one who had to ritually watch a certain video every day (i had to watch a video of a cop smoking a cigar and i had to say ”no smoking inside” 3 times during the video)
I had the weirdest ritual when I was like 10, I would sneak into my parent's car and forward a specific cassette to a very specific time and then sit perfectly still in the passenger seat while that part of the tape played. It wasn't even music, it was some audio book reading of some Disney shit horribly translated into my language.

Just joining the OCD group over here. Some of my rituals involve doing things, for instance turning on/off a switch an even number of times (never odd). If I touch the switch or it changes position say...3 or 5 times i need to reset the counter to an even number and turn it on/off until it reaches 4 or other even number. If the switch or whatever it is is double I may requiere to turn it on/off in a symmetrical way. You can't imagine how many minutes of my day I lose doing this crap...another rituals include holding my breath or staying completely quiet during certain parts of a video or ads. So yep, you're not alone ^^'

It killed me from like 8 to 17, I used to sleep to avoid it and my intrusive thoughts literally entered my dreams. I'm so glad that I don't also have depression because I am absolutely sure I would have killed myself. Like no doubts. Like, bye me! I never did therapy during that time because I couldn't afford it and I didn't talk to basically anyone about it and eventually it's like I just burned out all of the neurons responsible and just stopped caring about it at all. Like, over a weekend it was just gone, it was weird. It's clearly very desensitizing because even now I'm numb to any fear of physical harm really, I've gotten more nervous in physical confrontation about getting yelled at than getting punched, which is clearly idiotic but like that's my sense of things now and I wonder if it's served to stunt my emotional maturity because I have no motivation unless I'm on adderall or something. It was so bad and one day a switch flipped and I just became a carefree nihilistic fuck and I hate that. Now obviously there's probably more to that than ocd and I have add also (hence the addy) but that's definitely part of it. I think it was something like high neuroticism, low focus and low motivation to literally just low focus and motivation. Honestly I consider it lucky that I have add because adderall is the only reason I'm even close to functioning at this point

@@commasama1098 people REALLY shit talk adderall because of its negative effects, and like I get that, but it really is life changing for so many reasons. I seriously hope you get better and manage to cope with the intrusive thoughts. I know you've probably heard this 1000(0???) times but one of the things that tends to help loads of people is to just allow yourself to think about them instead of fighting those things off, to try to remain rational and not give in to the compulsions associated. It sucks, and you'll probably feel like a monster, but it really takes away from their power over you. Whether or not any of this applies to you obviously depends on the nature of the thoughts, of course, but they definitely don't have anything to do with what you like or who you are even if you have reason to think they do. It's probably dogmatic and I'm sure you've been told that by a therapist or like, anyone with intrusive thoughts, and maybe you already practice this but like, take some time out of a day to just stop fighting them and let it happen ya know? But you really can't allow yourself to fight them or care about them, at all, because that only serves to make you think about them more and strengthen that behavior, you have to think about them on purpose, (and almost as often as you have them) that's the secret. I don't know if I'm just hitting some basic shit here but people can go their entire lives without developing that habit because of just how much they hate those thoughts or themselves for thinking them, and sometimes they even grow to like being sad as it can kinda become part of their identity as paradoxical as that sounds. Just some advice, and trust me whatever thoughts you're having are not worse than even most of the others. SORRY FOR THE NOVEL :)))
