La bamba is the movie I think of when you hear this song at the end (true life story) when Richie Vallence had his funeral. It's recognized by alot of people that love the oldies ✌❤ oh steel guitar is what you are hearing it was and still is used in country music 🎶
That steel guitar began in Hawaii late 1800s as a regular guitar played with that bar to get those sounds. Still hear as the Hawaiian sound. It became common in old Country & Western music and in Classic Country 60s 70s and 80s. Most Country songs used it. Not so much today. Early Rock & Roll even used it some.
My father was a steel guitar player. He got his first steel guitar when he was 14 years old back in 1930 and played Hawaiian music. He taught my brothers and cousins to play instruments. My cousin is the bass player for Los Lobos. Thank you for sharing the history of the steel guitar.
Love this song ☺ A song with no lyrics is an Instrumental. There's a lot of those in the 50s 60s 70s 80s I'll suggest a couple for ya'll. Love is Blue" Paul Mauriat and "Alley Cat" by Bent Fabric
This was on a show called American Bandstand which was very big back in the late 50s and early 60s. The guitar they were playing was originally called a Hawaiian Steel Guitar which was used in a lot of music originating out of Hawaii. If you notice, the brand was a Fender. They are still used, but mostly in country music.
OK, first of all, this song takes me straight back to the movie "La Bamba" that I watched as a teenager. This song fit perfectly with that sad, yet powerful ending. And, I completely get what you are saying about how people sounded different, proper back then. I have said that same thing myself.
this song played on my alexa when my grandma passed i got a text from my mom saying shes gone and then a few minutes later this song started playing it wasnt even on classic music it was on a rock station... crazy right this was one of her favorite songs to
No it's not an auditorium. American Bandstand was a national TV show. Back in the day school had a *STRICT* dress code. Students had to dress up to prepare them for the workforce. Boys had to wear button down shirts with collars. No t-shirts were allowed. Girls had to wear skirts or dresses. No pants and certainly no shorts were allowed. For those that didn't follow the rules students would be sent home to change and required to return promptly. And yes, there were Truant Officers that would make sure you did as you were told. You're right, people actually spoke English
This was one of our favorite songs when I was a teenager. My homeboy used to play it in his 6 3 Chevy lowrider at his girlfriend's house where we all used to hang out at Linda and Margaret Sosa's house
You can’t tell me that you don’t feel like you’re in a deep sleep when you listen to this song, and end up sleepwalking! This was a huge hit back in the day, still love it today
Sleep Walk is one of my FAVORITE INSTRUMENTAL hits from the '50s and '60s, and there were a LOT of them, we don't have instrumentals anymore, which is sad. This song came out in 1959 when I was 12 years old and getting reading to enter 7th grade. I play it a lot, since it never gets radio play these days, and I just close my eyes and remember that late summer of 1959. Back then we were always "dressed up" as people now call it. But then, that was NORMAL clothing when out in public. We didn't wear jeans or t-shirts to school, to shop, to the movies, any where that was out in the public. Now, I think things have become way TOO casual. I see people shopping in their pajamas now! I miss the times when people looked nice out in public, now it's just anything goes. There is no real "STYLE" of dress. At home you could wear what you wanted, but when out of the home, we were always "dressed up" SO GLAD you reacted to this song and that you actually LIKED it, I didn't think you would. Keep up with your journey through the '50s and '60s, so much great music back then.
This brings back memories. It's just an instrumental. It's a petal steel guitar, commonly used in country music. You can tell it was a simpler time when mellow was in music fashion. You'd think they would written a couple of verses. but no. The dresses the girls wore were the style, and they wouldn't be caught dead wearing ten years later. Check out Duane Eddy.
The triple 8 Fender was not a pedal steel. Fender was one of the first to bring out a triple neck steel. These evolved into the pedal steel where with knee levers and foot pedals you can change the tuning of the instrument as you play. The pedal steel is used in most country music today and some rock.
Good reaction. Thank you for that. The clothes in the 70's may have looked weird to you but imagine how the clothes now look to us that lived in the 70's. At least then their pants weren't hanging around their knees, their underwear hanging out and them only being able to use one hand for everything so they can keep the other hand holding up their pants. lol
Its a steel guitar, used mostly in country music now. This one has 3 sets of strings, each has 6 strings, he uses 3 finger picks on his right hand and 1 slide bar on his left hand.
That instrument is called a steel guitar. They are popular with country music. It has such a soft sound. I do not believe that many artist use them now.
This may be a better example for people of our generation, though it’s sad it’s only known through this: This is the song playing in the tranzit loading screen in BO2 Zombies :)
More instrumental songs (songs with no lyrics/words) that were really big hits, anything by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (they were huge in the '60s) , "THEME FROM A SUMMERPLACE " by PERCY FAITH and his ORCHESTRA......"LOVE IS BLUE" by Paul Mauriat....."THE HAPPY ORGAN" by Dave "Baby" Cortez....."CLASSICAL GAS" by Mason Williams (1968).....ANYTHING by the VENTURES who were a guitar instrumental group: "APACHE," "PIPELINE," "WALK DON'T RUN," "WIPE OUT," (Which has a KICK ASS DRUM SOLO, that is still popular with a lot of drummers today) "PERFIDIA," "LET'S GO!" (which has a clapping rhythm that high schools used to use in their cheers at high school games), or "THEME FROM HAWAII FIVE-O" which was the actual theme song for the old TV show in the late '60s. There was also SANDY NELSON, who was a famous drummer back then who had several hits that featured his drumming : "LET THERE BE DRUMS" was the best one. There were a LOT more instrumentals than what I listed here. I HOPE you read this, and consider reacting to some of them... .. "LOVE IS BLUE" by Paul Mauriat, "
i love this tune so much the only thing about it is that it is wayyyyyy tooo short ! beautifull, listend to this while on your long chair in the garden in a sweet summer night and you'll feel like talking to the universe!
1959 - Riding around with my friends Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. This song came on the car radio and I guess I really kind of wished I had a boyfriend. But I was probably too immature. 😢

Priscilla (Presley) movie has this in it too. Just came out.
We danced real slow and real close to the sound of that steel guitar!

David Gilmore, from Pink Floyd, still uses it on his songs and live concerts
OMGoodness You two are coming up with some real good oldies lately. Love it. Thanks

I used to go to sleep listening to this for a long time. It's spooky, like walking in your sleep. Keep on keeping on, young Gentlemen.
Guys, that's a steel guitar. It's a guitar on legs with strings that you pluck and you a steal handheld slide. It's huge in Country and Blues music.
Oh hey guys, this song was a huge hit. It was featured in the movie La Bamba the story of Ritche Valens.
What a classic ,thanks fellas another great song ❤

This song that makes me think of a lazy day in the middle of summer time. I'm so glad you guys got to hear it, and it tickled you.
Thats so cool. Its good to watch you guys enjoying Sleep Walk. Its a Classic.
This was one of the songs for my wedding dances.

That’s deep. A beautiful classic song. This song was played at the end of the La Bamba film. It’s definitely a sad song yet beautiful.
Any one? "RIIIICCCCHHHHIIIIIEEEEE"
😢
Yes!
Not my RITCHIE!!!+
Always 😂
SLIDE guitar. You can slide on a reg guitar, but from that standup position you can do more, get better control and stuff
This was one of our favorite songs when I was a teenager. My homeboy used to play it in his 6 3 Chevy lowrider at his girlfriend's house where we all used to hang out at Linda and Margaret Sosa's house

I think you meant "PEDAL" not "petal" steel guitar :-)
Oh, good God!, you caught my damned spelling error. I hate when that happens.
@@patticrichton1135 I should say something absurd, like the instrument was covered with rose petals. Cheers, Patti!

Remember Aapachee...saw Jeff beck perform sleepwalk and apachee..great instrumentals
Slide guitar. It's basically a regular guitar laid down.😊Country music still uses it quite often.

It’s called a steel guitar guys. It’s like a guitar neck on a board. But you can play that on any guitar as long as the distortion is correct
This song is played in the last scene of LA Bamba. He playing a Fender Lap Steel Guitar.
Its a steel guitar, used mostly in country music now. This one has 3 sets of strings, each has 6 strings, he uses 3 finger picks on his right hand and 1 slide bar on his left hand.
That was great
Ngl that instrument they used reminds me of SpongeBob
It's called a lap guitar or a slide guitar. David Gilmour uses one in Pink Floyd on occasion. Sleepwalk is a haunting melody.
I think the first time I heard this was when the movie 'La Bamba' first came out!
That's where I heard it from too.
