@@jorgejiminez-rk1uu with everything he has going on, it makes absolutely no sense to invest the effort (time) into controlled demolition, saving stuff, transporting it, and selling. Your father is a wonderful man to nurture, teach and give you and Cooper the self determination to accomplish any goal you set your minds to. I did not have a father so I clearly see how a loving caring father can affect his children. I will continue to pray for your safety and well being of you, your family and friends. I know this might not be the best idea , but I would cut aboot 4 to 6 pieces of flat plate , at least 3/8 in or bigger , that extend perpendicular on the top side of that beam, In order to support that floor joist group. Hanging over each side of the beam at 4 or 6 inches , then weld those to the top of the beam spaced from end to end evenly and then they can serve as pads and supports all together

Ok, I really enjoyed seeing Cooper and Zach! They did a great job with the fenders and brakes. It was nice to see both the progress on the house and the farm again in one video. I am concerned that the beam is not continuing on to the fourth cement wall. It’s supported, but I think with everything above and nothing below it, it would be best to make the steel structure more like a cross ✝️. Also, there isn’t any reason why laminating steel with wood would hurt the frame. It was supporting so much more with so much less before. Hope you understand what I mean. Big hugs 🫂 💙! Blessings!

We used bigger I beam installing a 3-ton crane spanning 18 feet then he is going to use to support his house spanning 30 feet. Two-point load on the 14 beam he installed today. He is putting 3 stories on that beam and the other beam weight and plus it load. Look up point load and even load on beams and see what happens to beam size when you do point loads.

I love what you all do - for the I-beam you really should rust clear and protect them - for longevity- even if it’s just surface rust

Civil engineer here. Did some napkin math calculations. 14ft span, 12.3x6.5 I beam with a 0.44 flange (someone commented this earlier - not sure if this is accurate). Assume a 25 ton point load on the beam from that load above. This is conservative, and estimated based on the weight of a 3 story home and a safety factor. Just a fraction of the house weight will be transferred to that point. 14ft span steel beam. Max deflection of the beam is just under a half inch.
If you want to guarantee much less deflection of the beam, consider adding a channel cap. This will significantly improve the moment of inertia of the beam and allowable unbraced length of the beam

Did you miss the part where he is going to sit the beam on a 6x2 ?
      Your calcs are spot on….

Yeah someone had an idea of using flat plate and gussets instead of the 2x6. I think I’d be more comfortable knowing the posts on either end were the metal support columns with at least a 30,000 lb load limit.

Good to see Cooper on camera. I ge tthe impression it may not be his type of thing, so, it's good to see him. Yes, we ALL are looking forward to see the long beam get put in. I think you are going to need all the muscle you can get. Promise to cook pork steaks, and have some veggies like normal, I am sure your help will show up like Amish at a barn raising!

Don't question Cole, those $79 masonite hollow core doors from Menards are going to be better than antique solid oak doors.

Those doors actually came from our house. Been in the attic for 35 years…. Tried to see if they couldve been used anywhere else but they couldn’t…. I tried !

I absolutely love keeping up with this renovation of your Great, Great Great Grandfather's $7,000.00 mansion but I have been in the hospital quite a bit this year, I have a hard time getting caught up with episode, my suggestion is to give each one a #, example # 4 or # 6 . Then everyone would be able to keep up on what they lasted watched! Thanks for considering my request! I'm in AZ!
