- Join legendary jazz pianist, composer and educator Dr. Billy Taylor and his trio (Chip Jackson on bass and Winard Harper on drums) with special guest violinist John Blake, Jr. as they explore the sounds and history of the jazz violin. The group also performs jazz standards, including "Here's That Rainy Day," "Blue Monk," "All The Things You Are," and "A Night in Tunisia." (recorded in 2000 at C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA).
It's Very dificult to find jazz violin vídeos with this instrumental formation. Most of the times we find violin jazz with acustic guitar instead piano.
30:30 this is sacrilegious and absolutely amazing at the same time!!
What's sacrilegious about it? I know nothing about classical music 😅
@@sassymedea3065 there’s a famous RUclips channel called twosetviolin owned by two classical musicians. Once they reacted to a video of a guy playing flight of the bumblebee (aka the piece in the time stamp) really fast. It was supposed to be impressing but he skipped a lot of notes and so the boys called it sacrilegious. Ever since then it has become a running joke in the fandom…
@@sassymedea3065 He is playing one of the arguably hardest and most legendary classical violin pieces (paganini caprice 24) in a jazz enviroment at a very impressive speed
LMAO yes exactly. but I love mixing classical pieces and more modern genre. Idk if you seen two cellos but I love their thunderstruck video, its on RUclips. Rock and classical? absolutely beautiful. Vivaldi is basically the rock of classical music.
John Blake Jr. personally taught me all I know about jazz. “Motherless Child” was his favorite song to play on Sundays lol He was also a very good pianist aswell. He’s dearly missed. RIP John Blake Jr. thank you for mentoring me (piano), Kyle (violin) , Cory (trumpet/violin) and Andrew (sax). Never forgotten.
N+
Thanks for sharing with us the kind tribute to the late John Blake Jr. I think musical mentors occupy special places in our hearts due to the sheer power of music that transcends all barriers.
I also do agree that the violin is basically the instrument that replicates the human voice
Wow this is amazing! Some of the best Jazz I've heard and with great commentary too.
Improvising on a violin is epic

These guys swing so hard that the chains get wrapped around the top bar of the swing-set.
バイオリンってやっぱすげぇ楽器やな 人によってこんな変わるのか
THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL
Que bonito toca el violínista😊❤❤
i love the indian trance
I wish they would have explained why sometimes the violinist chose to play his acoustic violin under the mic, and for other tunes he played the amplified electric violin.
Todos tocan muuuuuuuuuy bien 🎉😊❤
My guy John Blake Jr. Playing the notes like it's nothing😭😭
