One thing that I find interesting is that that they made Carmilla all boy crazy even though one of her most noteworthy literary characteristics was her preference for women. So couldn't they have come up with a way to give her an antagonistic motivation without making her a desperate man-stalker and nullifying one of the classic character's defining traits?
I also find it interesting how tiny Dracula's head is.

Also, a little trivia sin bonus: LoS Alucard sword name is Crissaegrim, which was originally just a "common" drop from a enemy in Symphony of The Night. Instead of creating a cool ass name for that Katana-like sword, they just took the name of the most overpowered weapon from SoTN and ran with it.

I can't help but think that a story about Dracula just trying to leave the castle and the castle fighting to keep him there, juxtaposed with him trying to reconnect with his humanity, would've been better.
Or maybe a story about how he built the castle in the first place and filled it with monsters? Maybe he took it from some other big bad like Walter Bernhard in a big fight. Maybe he had to hunt down and defeat all of the classic boss monsters and put them in their place before finally claiming dominance over the monstrous edifice called Castlevania.

I've always thought that myself that how can Dracula possibly have knowledge of modern technology and infrastructure when he is from the 11th century. Like the bit where he's like "This virus is manufactured. There must be an antidote" How could he possibly know anything about manufacturing and antidotes. Also isn't the whole thing with having a virus that mutates people and transforms them into monsters a big Resident Evil rip off and does anyone else think that Alucard's armor looks suspiciously like the Daedric armor from Skyrim?

      @ChampionSheWolf 8 лет назад +13

I enjoyed the game as well. After all I gave up a long time ago on decent voice acting for any video game. The ham levels are typically through the roof. It's quite an enjoyable game, with a few bad sections I admit, but then again, all games have their bad sections. They aren't numerous to be more than an annoyance and the plot is actually followable, and an interesting take on the CastleVania meta. I think Lords of Shadow continuity should have gotten more love than it did, but we will probably never know. It's amusing though to point out the bad voice acting, and the callback lines of dialog to SotN, when that dialog and voice acting was absolutely wretched in that game. I think my main issue with the Lords of Shadow games is that they were just too serious for a CastleVania game, and missed the charm and fun, and of course not having the musical callbacks didn't help. Where CastleVania was often an homage to classical movie monsters, you had none of them in the Lords of Shadow games (no the Creature (aka Frankenstein's Monster, Adam), Medusa wasn't the gorgon we know, no wolfman, creature from the black lagoon or any of that). While I applaud them for trying something new and different, the misstep was Lords of Shadow 2 didn't have enough callbacks to make it feel like it could be a natural evolution of CastleVania and a generic plot about a Resident Evil style bio-weapon in the end. I think that's what turned people against it.

The dlc shows that after he removed the sword from Dracula and then reclaimed the Void Sword and Chaos Claws for Dracula to find later, Alucard tracked down Zobek's bodyguard and killed him to steal his armor, taking his place for about a day or so before Dracula woke back up.

God, this game! The first one was at least tolerable, but this one was just infuriating. Though from what I could gather, MercurySteam originally had different plans, and wanted to continue the plot reasonably, until Konami started punching the deadline out of impatience, and making modern assets is much easier than coming up with medieval scenery. They also didn't receive the full payment for this project, if I remember correctly. Oh well, maybe Bloodstained can restore some faith...
Also, I vote for L.A. Noire. The plotholes in it are supposedly the stuff of legends, and I wanna see your take on it, Dartigan!

embraceyourinner tophat Oh, right! Completely forgot about that! I think he even fired some guys when they spoke out against his nonsense, and controlled every idea as far as possible.

    • @KazeMemaryu

My thoughts on the transportation between the castle and the city: since the city is built on the same area, and Dracula awakens from his sleep, the castle is also awakened. It must be a portal to himself and everything inside is his interpretation of returning to evil or changing with the help of his family. People can only enter with Dracula but Dracula wouldn't want to enter without his family's help. It must be all in his mind I guess

The Pan in the other hand is not that he is evil, but he has simply lost the reason, and blames Dracula for the murder of his brother. I agree the part of the toymaker is my favorite. I also loved the character of the Chupacabra lol he's so funny (you can't count a sin for him to open a shop for only one customer) and paying for items with exp. points should have been sinned, lol. And the stealth parts are the best of the game if you play it on the hardest difficulty; in that moment you think "Ouhh yeah, some relaing time"! Btw the Golgoth Guards yould have been sinned for their huge armor and not wearing a helmet. The game on a whole is very good in my opinion: very cool powers, easy stealth parts, mid-difficult action parts, great city and castle, and great NPCs.

One thing that irked me (one of many things about the game) was the very long death cinematic if the second Acolyte (bald electric man) caught you, almost making you think it was an unavoidable event.. that and the "stealth sections" freaking Pans brother..

Victor was supposed to be Julius Belmont a character everyone wanted to see finally put a stop to Dracula in the 1999 war. Luckily, IGA put a stop to that. Everything about this game feels like someone trying to prove their OC was the greatest thing to ever happen to this franchise.

I just played this game for the first time and beat it today. I really wanted to love this game, but there is so much about it that makes no bloody sense whatsoever, and is stupidly frustrating at the best of times. No game has ever left me feeling more dissatisfied after beating it (except maybe the first one, whose ending was just confusing as shit initially). Having said that, Konami, if you happen to read this comment: JULIUS BELMONT NEEDS A FUCKING METROIDVANIA GAME!!!

This game is on par with Bioshock Infinite, fine the first time... once everything is digested you find out just how stupidly everything is slapped together just to find out it's one of the games that went through development hell because it couldn't deliver on the hype.

This could have been decent if they'd embraced the absurdity of Dracula in modern times and rolled with it. Or if they skipped the stealth sections. Or had a plot. And why pull the same shit like in the previous game? You set up three villains, you give us boss fights with two of them and then Satan shows up to kill the third one. Granted, Zobek got better but we still didn't have a boss fight with him.

I vote for L.A Noire. But, there is something important that I must tell you @Dartigan. (If you end of doing L.A Noire) There is a major collectible in the game that are called newspapers. You need to find all of them to have context on the main storyline, or rather the storyline that will take over the plot until the end of the game. They aren't too hard to find, I found a video that can easily be found on google. It's up to you whether you decide to either go and collect all of them or just look at the video that shows all of the newspaper cutscenes. But you have to look at them. Remember that @Dartigan.

There's another crucial plot point that you missed in this video that I don't remember if you addressed in the one for the first game: if *Trevor* is actually Drac's son who becomes *Alucard*, then how did Trevor fight *alongside* Alucard in CastleVania 3 for the NES?
And they forgot that Alucard's mother's name (according to Symphony Of The Night) is actually *Lisa*.
Unless the LoS games are supposed to retcon THOSE games too...
    *smh*

The voices seem a bit off at times.. almost like they had to match voices to the animation, and not the other way around. If that's the case, I guess you can't really blame Carlyle for staggering at times.
I think he did a good job other than that, and he's a great screen actor - really would like to see him get some more interesting parts in movies.
