@@GarageBuiltHondas my car is outside right now with the transmission off . Does the clutch fork stiffen up when you mount the transmission back on or is it supposed to flop around all loose . its loose so the slave cylinder even when bled cant press the release barring
Hi mate, greetings. My honda accord has F23a engine with 4 speed automatic. Year 2000 (CF6 NZDM). My transmission is on its way out. Just want to confirm if any f23 automatic transmission will work with my motor as i have some good options from ofher f23 models. Many thanks in advance.
Be patient, take your time. For a first time, it'll be a big learning experience. Make sure you have all the necessary tools and maybe a breaker bar to help with the stubborn bolts.
Total capacity is 6.3 quarts for the auto trans, but depending on what you drain the amount you add may vary because of the fluid that will be in the bottom of the radiator in the cooling tank part and any left in the lines. After you finish keep adding fluid until you get close to the fill line. Then warm up the car and check the level and add more if needed.
How did you end up separating the driver side axel from the intermediate shaft since you removed the whole unit together? I removed my axel and intermediate shaft together aswell since no amount of prying/banging could seperate them on the car. I still cant seem to seperate them even out of the car.
@@GarageBuiltHondas I ended up using a 2x4 wedged in the gap between the CV joint and intermediate shaft. A couple good wacks with a 2lb mini sledge on the opposite end of the 2x4 while rotating the axel and it seperated in a few minutes!
I'm swapping a motor and trans, converting a wagon from auto to a manual trans I pulled from a wagon that wasn't as clean. Hence the swap. Any idea if it's reasonable to pull the motor and trans out through the top? Would be allot easier for me than pulling them down and out
RUclips never notified me about your response. But I did go ahead and pull the whole drivetrain from the top. Took allot of angle on the motor and a fully stripped engine bay. But now I've got a roller
what are your thoughts on my 01 accord losing all pedal but nothing has leaked and the clutch still grabs one morning it got hard to shift it wasnt disengadging fully then just stopped disengadging completely
I have 1992 5 speed Honda Accord would it be the same process and what would you recommend as far as a new tranny fly wheel and clutch system . I do want to swap engines some time but have other things to do first .
Hey man my son has a 1997 honda accord and when you push the clutch it wont go in gear before i would notice it happening in the morning and after the car warmed up it would shift into gear just fine I checked the fluid reservoir and it was dry I added dot3 brake fluid like it said on the cap and still it wont go in gear and now the clutch feels like the cable is broken when you press on the clutch any ideas on what I can do?
If the brake master cylinder reservoir was dry then you have either a leaking brake master cylinder or slave cylinder. One of those is probably broken. See if you can see where the fluid was leaking. I'm assuming you also own a 94-97 accord?
+Jon Widmer. I changed the master cylinder and slave cylinder I bled the line and the clutch pedal still stays down i feel no pressure is there something else that can cause that? I actually own a nissan armada this is my sons first car I want to help him fix it up
+George Ramirez If they were both brand new parts and both changed then the only place I can see a problem is in the bleeding. You may need to re-bleed the system and do it slowly, otherwise you can still suck in air going quickly. Try to re-bleed and see if that fixes the pedal staying on the floor.
I'm converting my 01, people say i have to drop the subframe, do i have to or i could drop it straight like yours? F23 motor, using a 97 f22 5spd conversion
+Joshua Figueroa If it's similar, I don't see a reason to drop the subframe. On all the Hondas I've worked on I've never dropped the subframe to remove the transmission.
Garage Built Hondas people are saying to drop the whole subframe as one, but watching this video, the only thing, i dont know if you took it out or it's like that, it looks like a trailer arm to the front of the subframe, can i have your email to send you what I'm talking about?
I removed the radius rod to drop the transmission. If you don't you won't have enough room to get it lowered to the ground. I prefer to respond to messages here. I only check my email every few days.
So I have a 96 Honda accord ex auto ex auto dose the transmission come out or do I need to remove all the little bolt like 12 the are on flex plate or dose it come out with transmission
Autozone has flywheel, OEM type, about $55 bucks. The two axle seals (L-R), and the input & output seals all, are about $40, well worth the little extra cost and time to swap out. Tools ~10mm & 17mm 12 point, both sockets, 1/2 inch drive, for P-plate & flywheel bolts (socket at Homedepot or Napa) Thx for this video info, it is helpful.
I have an honda accord v6 3.0 2005 model there’s an issue, after driving on higher speeds like above 100-120 kmph for some time, the gears lags sometimes jerks and car comes on limp/safe mode, i am very much confused what’s the issue with the car

hey i have a question for you. i have a 1996 accord with 202000 miles. i want to sell the transmission. would it be worth as is...300bucks? if not what would it be worth to a person who btw would have to remove the transmission ?
$300 sounds too steep. You can get transmissions from the junkyards in our area for between $100-$130, and they give you a 30 day warranty for free. If they have to do the work, I'd still say between $100-130 since they would have to do that same work at the junkyard.
Jon Widmer thanx for thst. i have another question for u. it appears (by a few mechanics locally) that I have a spun bearing in the engine so I don't think I'll make the money I was looking for. i have another person interested in the airbags. hood. bumper and headlights. would 125-150 be too steep for all of those parts?
Soverign Cold-Steel that sounds fair. Most parts usually will sell for what they are worth. It all depends on demand in your area. If you're going to part it out I'd start the prices a little steep to offer bargaining room.

Do you happen to have part numbers for the output axle shaft seals? I am having a super hard time finding them anywhere even from Honda.
I don't. Go to hondapartsunlimited and input your vehicle and search through the MT parts. It's in there.
hi change the transmission everything went good
transmissions shifts but the car is giving me a p0720
solenoid, speed sensor, temperature sensor?
the transmission that I install didn't come with any of these so I have to use the ones on old transmission. should I replace all these?
also I heard about using Honda transmission fluid, I didn't I use the Asian formula from Auto Zone....
thanks for your help.
The ATF you used should be fine. I found this info on Google.
Common Problems That Trigger the P0720 Code
Defective Output Speed Sensor
Defective Shift Solenoids
Defective Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
Defective Valve Body
Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages
Defective Output Speed Sensor wiring or connector
I'd try troubleshooting each to narrow it down. Maybe you have a bad connection? The wiring is old, take a look at all of the connectors.
hey man i put the transmission back on and the clutch fork is all loose and wiggly it doesnt stiffen up like its suppoed to
Fork? From inside the transmission?
@@GarageBuiltHondas my car is outside right now with the transmission off . Does the clutch fork stiffen up when you mount the transmission back on or is it supposed to flop around all loose . its loose so the slave cylinder even when bled cant press the release barring
This video is really helpful
Glad to help out
Thanks this video really helped me out alot
You're welcome, thanks for watching! 👍🏻
My wheels are free spinning while in gear after I put everything back together. Do you know what I might have messed up?
moe riou Verify both axles are pushed into the transmission all the way.
Man I feel really dumb. It was just the differential and it was night time so I didn't notice the other wheel spinning xD
moe riou lol, good to hear though!
The 98-02 F series will work. I'm not sure if some of the older models would though.
@@GarageBuiltHondas many thanks again. Stay safe.😀
Likewise!
I'm doing this tomorrow
I have a 97 Accord lx
it'll be my first time changing a transmission.
Any advice for a novice
Be patient, take your time. For a first time, it'll be a big learning experience. Make sure you have all the necessary tools and maybe a breaker bar to help with the stubborn bolts.
Hey bro just wondering what socket you used to get the clutch pressure plate bolts off with
10mm 12 point
I have all the tools except for that lower control arm separator. Also my transmission is automatic
how many quarts of ATF and what type
thanks
Total capacity is 6.3 quarts for the auto trans, but depending on what you drain the amount you add may vary because of the fluid that will be in the bottom of the radiator in the cooling tank part and any left in the lines. After you finish keep adding fluid until you get close to the fill line. Then warm up the car and check the level and add more if needed.
How did you end up separating the driver side axel from the intermediate shaft since you removed the whole unit together? I removed my axel and intermediate shaft together aswell since no amount of prying/banging could seperate them on the car. I still cant seem to seperate them even out of the car.
BFH
@@GarageBuiltHondas I ended up using a 2x4 wedged in the gap between the CV joint and intermediate shaft. A couple good wacks with a 2lb mini sledge on the opposite end of the 2x4 while rotating the axel and it seperated in a few minutes!
Lol, nice!
I'm swapping a motor and trans, converting a wagon from auto to a manual trans I pulled from a wagon that wasn't as clean. Hence the swap. Any idea if it's reasonable to pull the motor and trans out through the top? Would be allot easier for me than pulling them down and out
That's usually how most full swaps are pulled. It's not ideal to pull just the trans from the top though.
RUclips never notified me about your response. But I did go ahead and pull the whole drivetrain from the top. Took allot of angle on the motor and a fully stripped engine bay. But now I've got a roller
Nice! 🙏
Hello everyone 👋 Question?
Will a 2000 Honda Accord manual Transmission work/bolt on my 1991 accord 2.2l f22a1?
Thanks!
I don't know. It might, my guess is no.
Wow!!! Nice video!!
what are your thoughts on my 01 accord losing all pedal but nothing has leaked and the clutch still grabs one morning it got hard to shift it wasnt disengadging fully then just stopped disengadging completely
Pedal sinks to the floor?
I have 1992 5 speed Honda Accord would it be the same process and what would you recommend as far as a new tranny fly wheel and clutch
system .
I do want to swap engines some time but have other things to do first .
1991 Honda Accord *
Very similar process, maybe a few different steps here and there but this will help. I would look at an Exedy replacement clutch.
if you’re mechanically inclined how long would this job take to complete
5-8 hours for the motivated.
Is it possible to do this without removing the front motor mount? One of the bolts in mine is frozen up
You can probably just discount the mount from the transmission and leave it there. Shouldn't be a problem.
Dose flywheel stay with engine when Transmission comes out
+Jesse Reyes yes
Is it 6.3 to fill it all the way since I put the transmission in
I have a 1993 Honda Accord.. will this video work for my year?
William Quave, III It will be very similar. maybe a few different parts here and there but essentially the same throughout.
Awesome! Thank you, sir!
One last question can I pull it with out the engine stand I have good floor jacks
+Jesse Reyes yes
Do you got face book
+Jesse Reyes no
thank you

Awesome, welcome and thanks!!
very good video thanks
+Henry Alvares thanks for the comment!
how did you support the engine once the transmission was removed?
2x4's cut into small pieces
Jon Widmer where did you place the blocks off wood?
Jon Widmer where did you place the blocks of wood?
luis lopez under the oil pan.
Heck of a video/tutorial. Buy that man a lift.
👍😂
Is it easy doing by yourself?
Only if you are good with tools. For a 1st timer it'll be a lot more challenging
is it pretty much the same for the auto trans? My trans just gave out
Yes, except remove the torque converter is a little different.
How many total bolts hold transmission to the engine?
I'm converting my 01, people say i have to drop the subframe, do i have to or i could drop it straight like yours? F23 motor, using a 97 f22 5spd conversion
Joshua Figueroa sorry, I'm not sure. I've never worked on the 98-02 Accords yet so not familiar with the chassis/specs.
Garage Built Hondas it looks the same
+Joshua Figueroa If it's similar, I don't see a reason to drop the subframe.
I only check my email every few days.
dude is there anyway i can contact u i really need to get this transmission back on the car and this is sucking so bad
Great video Bro
+eagle eyes thanks man!
How close is this to the automatic transmission??
It'll be very similar with the exception of the shifter cables and the removal of the torque converter from the automatic flywheel.
so I replaced the clutch in my 94 honda accord went good but after I got it back together and put it into gear it doesn't move any ideas??
Can you shift the car into gear when the car is off, and also when it is running?
Yeah
+nathanial hurt Was the flywheel also changed?
Same process for a 98-02 accord w the f23a1/5spd?
Probably similar most of the way.
So I have a 96 Honda accord ex auto ex auto dose the transmission come out or do I need to remove all the little bolt like 12 the are on flex plate or dose it come out with transmission
I working on mine right now
+Jesse Reyes You need to remove all the bolts to get the transmission free.
How much was the fly wheel and where did you buy it
Allison Taylor It was purchased from AutoZone. I believe around $60, cannot remember the exact price.
Thank you
Autozone has flywheel, OEM type, about $55 bucks.
The two axle seals (L-R), and the input & output seals all, are about $40, well worth the little extra cost and time to swap out.
Tools ~10mm & 17mm 12 point, both sockets, 1/2 inch drive, for P-plate & flywheel bolts (socket at Homedepot or Napa)
Thx for this video info, it is helpful.
I have an honda accord v6 3.0 2005 model there’s an issue, after driving on higher speeds like above 100-120 kmph for some time, the gears lags sometimes jerks and car comes on limp/safe mode, i am very much confused what’s the issue with the car
+Mohommed Bakhtiar any maintenance or check engine lights on?
Garage Built Hondas
Nothing as such, I scanned the vehicle and it was showing solenoid valve b stuck on, so I went to mech and he cleaned up solenoid valves which is on top of gearbox, and after that it is showing Oxygen Sensor B1 trouble code, so i will he changing it, BUT does it really a problem related to O2 sensor or any other issues?
ATF Z1 and Dw1 is not available in aftermarket, so what is the substitute ATF for my honda accord ?
If my car RPMs go up but doesn't accelerate in gear. Does that mean the clutch died?
I have a 1994 Model. I had to raise and drop RPMs to shift to get myself home. When I arrived it just died on the spot😢
Sounds like it, highly doubt it's the transmission but that could also be the issue.
Thanks
hey john do you have an idea of why my car turns off in neutral when let go of my clutch ?
Possibly your idle needs to be adjusted? Does your car idle very low? Maybe your ignition timing being set might help. Possibly clean the IACV also.
Jon Widmer i don't think its an idle problem because before when i let go of the clutch you could hear a crackling sound from inside the car.
+Yo Boy Moy Crackling? as in like a wire shorting out?
nah more like metal hitting metal "crackling" sound
Jon Widmer nah more like metal hitting metal "crackling" sound
On index 2:00 you lifted the stuff so easily to separate it ... that is my big problem. I had hard time separating it. My car is civic coupe `97. I am ready to give up.
Did you use the tool at 1:50?
@@GarageBuiltHondas Nope. I don't even know what kind of tool it is. Can we buy that at any autoshop? I've been watching that many times still don't know what it is.
@@GarageBuiltHondas It is called ball joint separator show by this link: ruclips.net/video/qv-wb-VltZY/видео.html in details at index 3:52.

@@GarageBuiltHondas Many thanks!
hey i have a question for you. i have a 1996 accord with 202000 miles. i want to sell the transmission. would it be worth as is...300bucks? if not what would it be worth to a person who btw would have to remove the transmission ?
And how much was the clutch kit and flywheel
I don't know, you'll have to look online. I did this work for a friend/customer and he bought the parts.
