Nolan was prob my favorite pick in this draft . I just pray he can stay healthy and is big enough to bang with the big boy s.. His game I.Q and athleticism are unmatched
Yeah loved the pick too. I'd like to see him bulk up a little to play a bit stronger and help with the attrition of the season. I think Georgia asking him to play multiple different roles really showed off his IQ!
First time watching one of your videos, and I am highly impressed. I’m a huge Eagles fan. Played football my whole life, and in college for awhile and I love to geek out on the little details and man, you covered them perfectly. That was one of the best breakdown videos I’ve ever seen. I’m definitely subscribing to the channel, keep up the good work!
Appreciate the support! There's so many small things that are impossible to catch just watching the game live. Hopefully I can help people understand and enjoy the game a little more
This was an awesome breakdown, appreciate the work keep these coming bro. Nolan has got a real chance to be great and the attitude and mindset to help him reach it #GoBirds 🦅
Love the false stepping tangent. But a edge rusher can also fight that by working on their ankle flexibility allowing them to lean forward more in their 2 point stance and create a better surface to drive from
You're 100% right! You can see Nolan doing a good job with this, Josh Sweat also does a really good job with it as well. I had a couple thoughts on the subject since I think it's an interesting discussion. 1) I believe a player can generate more force by using the false step instead of trying to grab the turf with their cleats and propel themselves forward. Think of the foot like a piston driving into the ground. Pretty much nowadays all OL are stepping backwards with their first step because they can generate better leverage and force that way. 2) Often, when players in two point stances lean to get better shin angles, they put so much weight on their front foot that it negates the benefits of using the two point stance. They might as well be in a three point stance then. I'm actually going to touch on this a bit in my next video as it related to the Eagles run defense last year. I think the false steps allows the player to stay balanced while being able to explode forward when needed. 3) You said it yourself, a lot of times players have to fight the false step. Idk if it's beneficial spending so much time getting the players to fight a natural instinct that is so common among athletes. Instead, players should be taught how to false step efficiently. How high to bring the foot, how far back to place it, don't step to the side, etc. They should still be driving off their back foot while false stepping. The top players are still moving forward while the false step is occurring due to their back foot pushing through the ground.
Great breakdown. Interestingly, he seems to bend his hips at 8:51. But, on pass rush reps, it's completely absent. Is it possible Georgia's D required him to stay in line with the QB at the top of the rush? None of their edges, at least in this video, seem to pursue deep speed angles at all - but, they seem to be containing the run really well by staying shallow. What do you think? And is it possible he uses his bend (which is there in the reps vs. the run game) on the Philly D, if/when he's allowed to take super wide + deep angles? He looks like Chandler Jones vs. the run, and a reined-in nobody on speed rushes. At least the ability is there. Maybe coaching will make the big diff.
Yeah it might be coaches not wanting them to overrun the QB, especially more athletic QBs like Anthony Richardson. But there are reps where he shows off his bend on passing plays, he just is pretty raw in his pass rush gameplan so that he doesn't get to those positions that often. But he has shown on film that he has great mobility and bend so that will show up more as he gets better with his pass rush. I think coaches will focus on him using more speed rushes to take advantage of his burst/mobility. I think he will have one of the best ghost moves in the league when all is said and done. Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the video!
Love your thoughts on Nolan's first step but with teachings from Reddick, Sweat and camp visitors like Trent Cole I'm sure that's something he can work on to improve.
Yeah 100%. Good news is he's already worked with Von Miller, below is a clip showing Von discussing with Nolan about his get off and how he tries to anticipate snap count. It shows up in Von's film too, you see him trying to time up that "false step" with the snap count. twitter.com/dlinevids1/status/1669523526737629185?s=20 Also, Sweat talked about how his teammates and coaches were always on him about improving his get off as soon as he got to Philly. Last year he had the 3rd fastest get off. He has great people to learn from, he'll definitely figure it out.
He’s got all the potential in the world and there’s no one better than Reddick for him to learn from. I’d say he’s more likely to end up a superstar than Carter is.
Reddick will be a great player to learn from. We'll see if he ends up better than Carter, I think it comes down to character and work ethic, but hopefully these guys are our new Fletch/BG core for the next 10 years.
I would much rather he become Von Miller 2.0 (DE) i/o Hasaan Redick 2.0 (SLB) because to have a pass rush with BOTH Hasaan AND Nolan attacking the QB it would be awesome to watch!!!
Reddick, Sweat, Nolan, Carter all rushing the QB on one play is scary to think about. That's a solid core to watch over the next several years. Going to be fun!
Could he not fully understand the dip and rip pass rush yet? From his tape his plan is unrefined but I love the upside and he should learn some pass run plans from our edge duo
It just comes with reps, everything happens so fast. Dip and rips/ghost techniques aren't used in every scenario so it's just getting to a point where you see a movement from the blocker and react naturally. He'll become more refined with hard work, more reps and good coaching. His ability to bend and accelerate are stuff other players will never achieve.
In the play I highlighted he picked up his back foot and put it down, then picked up his front foot and put it down, too much wasted movement. He should be driving off his back foot simultaneously with either method for the front foot, whether that's rolling his knee over the toe or "false" stepping.
Looking forward to that THROWN super bowl getting behind us. A stadium in the desert with a roof, flooded? Oh then it comes out a 94 year old kc chiefs fan was the head of the crew? No wonder the entire eagle team had to change cleats and not one chief did. It was fixed and they knew it.
Great info and video. Not gonna lie your voice inflection or lack there of Almost put me to sleep. In your defense, I was already tired. Really great vid, though. Nothing personal. GO BIRDS!!!
LOL trust me I know I have a very monotone voice. Definitely something I need to work on. Can always count on Philly fans to give honest thoughts. Thanks for the feedback, Go Birds!

@@PhillyFilmRoom He's going to be great if he can stay healthy. With all his physical talent he has a long injury history.
@@hahahaha147 that's my biggest concern with him

I agree. 🦅🦅🦅🦅
love the video of his teammates getting hyped for his 40
Unbelievable detail. I’m late to this. Automatic sub. How in the world does he only have ~400? C’mon Birds fans.
All good, the subs will grow with time. Thanks for the support! Glad you liked the video

Thank you! Excited to watch Nolan carry the torch into the next generation. Go Birds!
Good analogy on the false stepping. Loved the video
Love the content man, keep ‘em coming! 🔥🔥

“False stepping” is loading the legs. Charging the momentum readying it to explode. Calling it a false step isn’t accurate.
Yeah I've heard other people call it different things, plyo step, power step, position step, etc. The name false step gives it a negative connotation.
to me a false step is when u actually step backward not just plant off your back foot first

Can we get a Carter one? Never watched him play
Yeah I got you! It'll be obvious pretty quickly that he's a different kind of player.
They missing the point bro .. This wasn't about who won the game... This was about Gilmore vs Brown and what Gilmore brings to the Cowboys
How do you stop this eagles defense… it’s pretty much the Philly bulldogs playing as eagles

We'll get it back this year. Setbacks make the comebacks feel better.
Promo'SM 💞
He'll be injured soon. Another high draft bust for the Eagles. They havent drafted well in early rounds in 10 years. Why will this year be different?
It sounds like you're hoping he gets hurt
