Beautiful! Thank you for introducing Victor Wilson to us. Question: how do you explain "eating and drinking" or "feasting on Him" to non-followers? I have heard feedback from someone who said, "How gross and disgusting for Jesus to ask that of us." Obviously, it is symbolic and still offends people today, but just thought to ask. I am doing a study with some women who are non-believers in the book of John and so hearing your thoughts on how better to communicate "feasting on Him" might help the others.

kavun thanks man! Yeah, definitely an inter library loan. I’ve actually tried to contact the author multiple times and never get to him.
I've been hearing that some people think these 7 signs were once a stand alone text, scholars call it the "Signs Gospel" maybe it is a early core of the work, or a way that the gospel was taught in the early church.
Scholars are really good at imagining sources and then imagining stories about those sources. Instead they should be imagining the words of the Bible.

This is fascinating! One thing confuses me -- why isn't walking on water in 6:16-21 considered a sign?
Christina Walton I think for structural reasons. John wanted to make this point in the signs. He includes the word sign (semeion) in every narrative where he wants the identification to be clear. I don’t think walking on water is not a sign, it’s just not explicitly identified for structural reasons.

This sort of mirroring and ring- format is also seen in Quranic ayahs, words chapters and in the book as a whole. Except the difference seen here is that the Quran was not revealed in chronological order and was orally memorized from speech. It was only written after the whole revelation was complete. Muhammed was an illiterate man as well.
your allusion to Genesis is interesting. nevertheless, while Genesis could be considered as LITERAL eating, John 6 is symbolic eating denoting believing Jesus
