  • In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Ok kids - that there is the 3800 engine. Its the grandchild of the all mighty Buick 231 V6 that powered the turbo T Type and GN's of the 80's. It really is a rock solid motor. Shame they didn't tune these to 300HP from the factory.

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS Limited edition, my first car, and I can say this car is great. Bought it at 172k miles for $1500 and I've only ever had one issue with it, which was my oil pressure sending unit. About $20 to fix, but kind of a pain. Other than that my car has been amazing, especially for the price. I wish it came with a manual alternative, but anyways. It's a blast to drive and I definitely recommend it as a first car. I had someone weld on some Flowmaster Super 44s and I love it even more.

I don't understand why chevy made these and the impalas fwd. honestly, what were they thinking?

    • @EP1CNELSON
      @EP1CNELSON 8 лет назад +14

After 1989 the Monte Carlo really started going down hill, they also stoped putting the 454 V8 so that really where it started, in the early 90's everyone was conscerned about gas and fwd was the way Chevrolet went because they got better gas mileage. Fwd brought on some of Chevrolets worst cars aka the Lumina/2 door Lumina Monte Carlo Wanna Be, after 1995 Chevy quit making the Impala Rwd and did the same to it as they did to the Monte Carlo. But the Impala was not as much a disappointment than the Carlo was when they release the first Carlo on 2 decades to not have an option with a V8, and fn front wheel drive. Thanks Chevy for ruining my favorite Car. The Carlo😢

To be fair GM never changed this engine specs since it's debut in 1996. That's what they did to keep itself alive and save production costs. They kept the motor for this long since people loved it. Its a lot better than the headgasket prone 3100/3400 v6's. Also 2005 was the last year of the Series 2, they already had the series 3 supercharged motors "rated" at 260hp implemented in the GTP. I never believe the ratings. I bet if it's dynoed, it put more than 240hp.

I have one of these things. It's not the fastest, and the tall gearing doesn't help it any, but it's a great highway cruiser.
And I suspected mine was fully loaded, and I may be right, cause mine has electrical seats both sides and a trip computer, as well as everything else here.
Previous owner did drive it in the winter, so she's got an unfortunate amount of salt rust. I do what I can to combat it, but it's not going so well. Oh well.

Kyle you should start looking for some of the Olds LSS models, Got one with the same supercharged motor, such a rare fantastic car.
Actually it should push out more than 240hp/285lbs torque. Almost any car brand will underrate their hp ratings, so it's cheaper to sell insurance. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 260hp with 300 lbs torque at the crank if you have CAI.
Actually I get around 19mpg with it..You should mention that these require premium gas. I almost busted my engine running reg

That's only a rating, it probably made higher. This goes for any car brand. But look at the torque you have nearly 300lbs at such a low rpm, it's a sleeper. I have the same motor on a 98 Oldsmobile LSS rated at 260hp/338lbs with a CAI system. I smile everytime I drive it. Next mod I plan on is a smaller supercharger pulley. It will bring out more PSI boost.

I got an LS for 2,100 with 160,000 on it and it still runs beautifully
You can't always go by mileage, there might be cars with 200,000 miles that are better maintained then cars that have 80,000 miles on it

UPDATE: after a year with my LS I found a 2005 LT (which minus some trim pieces is the SS trim without the supercharger) with 45,000 miles for $4,000. It is superior to the LS in every way

Drivers side fog light has fallen out of its socket... And you have to crawl under the safety belt to enter the rear seat or wriggle it out of the plastic eye.
American build quality and ergonomics, great!

I wouldn't think so. I know these 3800 series powerplants , but if you dyno them, it would be higher than the ratings.

This is a reason why they don't make the Carlo any more, it really started going down hill after the 90's when they made it fwd and stop putting the 454 V8 in it.

I always loved this generation for its reliability, usually if you take care of a car they will last almost 300,000 without major repairs. Of course unless you run one off the road like me then you realize you didn't have full coverage so you are at a total loss.

@arashn89 1st of all European cars except for Porsche and maybe some of the OLDER Mercedes models have never been reliable considering how much they cost. How many do you see that are 20+years old still running? There are tons of American built cars still running from the 40's-80's. You can see these cars posted right here on Kyle's channel. American cars do break down, but they are pretty cheap and easy to fix.

I own this engine and it puts out more than 240hp I'll tell you that.. Simple mods like installing a cold air intake system and a smaller supercharger pulley would bring out the good and that motor.
