Its great that someone can restore these. absolutely great results
I've had the pleasure to ride in two of these vehicles, they are just amazing for the time they were built.
Looks fun! Enjoyed the video.
Living in the heart of the Great Lakes is the place if you want to see cars like this. When I was a kid back in the 60's and 70's I was lucky enough to see these amphicars. In my home town of London there was one on Thompson Rd. It was near my Grandfathers home. When your a kid long before the internet you had to actually go outside and do stuff. I thought the Amphicar was science fiction. They are incredible.
My Grandfather would take me on these most incredible fishing trips. The place we liked the best was Gananoque. What a fantastic summer time place. Wow.
There was a man who lived on a small island on the St. Lawrence River. Our boat quite on us and we had a long way to paddle but from around this small island came this Amphicar to our rescue. He pulled up beside us and asked if we needed a taxi. On the hood of his Amphicar was a sign that read "water taxi". He took us back to shore and we got our big boat out and went and towed our little boat in.
Unforgettable.
LOL, I can actually remember one of these coming down the bayou when I was a young boy where we had a camp near Port Arthur,TX. The guys pulled up to our dock and asked if they could use our boat ramp to get back on land which of course my grandfather agreed. I actually found some slides my dad took of the car that day. This was in the mid to late 60's . Cool video. Thanks for jogging my memory.
Rock River Awesome!
Great video - i am in Evansville, In., and Dixon, Il. isn't too far from me. These Amphicars used to make it to Evansville for car shows a few years ago. Enjoyed seeing the video.
A great video that brought back wonderful memories. I was driven down the River Thames in London, England a few times in an Amphicar in summer 1965. A wonderful experience that i'll never forget and a great way to see London.
Awwww....Grampa Wave. 😘 "Get in and hold on!" LOL! Amphicars don't go very fast on land OR in the water....not that it matters. They're awesome!
In the early 1960's, I was in an enormous traffic jam on the Cross IslandParkway here on Long Island. Two cars ahead of me there was an Amphicar whose driver was tired of bumper to bumper traffic in the July heat. The driver pulled a quick right turn and off he went into the briny. I was goggle eyed. To this day most people don't believe me when I tell this story. There was an agency in Manhattan who which was an Amphicar dealer.
His thoughts were probably, "This traffic is ridiculous. I'll just take the river home, it'll be quicker."
Cool story wish i was him lol
Unique and a great ride. Thanks Chuck! You are the best.
Truly epic car. Would love to have a whole fleet of classic cars.
Love those car. I guess he knows his stuff about those cars. Thanks
I remember seeing videos of these cars on TV Game shows back in the 1960's. I always wondered how they work... now I see. Thank You for sharing this video on RUclips
Rode in one on Lake Decatur in 1965. The door seals leaked and we had to come back.
-Thanks for the video Chuck. I remember seeing footage of one of these at the Cinema when i was a child- & they were new. I remember thinking at the time "how did they do that?" Now, thanks to your video, i know. Great to learn about the engine & gear box also. Tell Dave to keep up the good work, too many of the great inventions of the past disappear into oblivion.

Thank you!
Awesome video! Like alot of people, I've heard of the Amphicar. I even saw a beautifully restored Amphicar in person, used as an advertisement. I've never seen one being driven on land or in the water. Nor have I ever ridden in one.
Well this explains why I saw two for sale not to far from me in Rochelle.
My neighbours across the street from me, had one of these. I was told that they used it up at their cottage, although, I never got to ride in it.
Thanks chuck.
2:30 here u go
( 'All The Way with') LBJ had one as well on his Texas ranch. He liked to scare visitors that he took out for a ride in this car by suddenly driving into a pond staging a car accident.
I've always wanted an amphibious car since the 1990s, when Bill Nye drove one on his show (the "Buoyancy" episode)
Still treasure the Amphicar model Grampa made for me, say Hi from the UK !
NEW JERSEY BABY!!!!
I saw that you sold one of these to the wheeler dealer Mike brewer. with these being in the water. who would ever guess what lurks under the paint. what a mess, but they cleaned it up nicely.
I'm blushing,,thanks.
Dave the Wave is water tight !
I'm pretty sure the one from Washington state is the one I rode in, I'll have to ask my friend's Dad (he owned one that was in good condition and had one fixed as well)

thanks sir

I want one. I’m going to super charge it.
LBJ played pranks on guests while at his Texas ranch with his Amphicar. While going down an incline, he would pretend to lose control of the car, telling them and drive straight into a lake, with passengers unaware it was an amphibious vehicle.
He might have been the last U.S. President who drove on public roads while in office.
I just finished restoring a 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. My first car at 16... My Dad, Mom and me many years ago went to the New York Worlds Fair, somewhere around 1967. There, they had these car and you could go for a ride on land and in the lake they had there.
Ever since then, for the next few years he said he always wanted one. He was a boat man too. Had a fiberglass 16 footer. He passed about 25 years ago.
The fairlane is a copy of my first car at 16, handed down to me from Dad.... For the past year I too have been looking for an Amphicar to restore.
Where do you find them in such bad condition?. I would purchase one to restore, show it, also, like I do the 62 Fairlane.
Got one to sell unrestored?. Anyone?. Here's the 62's 5 year restoration in time lapse. In case anyone is interested, and, to show my sincrity in restoring one. The 5 year restoration video in Time Lapse of this car. From start to finish.

McGuyver Starr was a Taxi Driver, whose life was really pretty dull. Actually, each day was fairly bleak and secretly he wondered if he was ever going to go very far, until the day he bought his brand new, second-hand, Lagoon Blue Amphicar! He’d never really thought about it, but deep inside McGuyver had a raging surfie streak; he was searching for a set of wheels to match his identity; something that spoke of the sea, yet made a statement that he was unique! By the time children read to the end of this book, they will be veritable authorities on the remarkable German-built Amphicar, which rolled off the assembly line in 1961 but had ceased production by 1968.
wait grampa isnt it grandpa sorry im not from the us
