Thanks everyone for watching, chatting and your comments, we appreciate all your feedback. That being said, we felt it was important for Slayer to have the first episode. Lock Horns Redux is going to be a mix these kind of episodes and classic Essential Bands / Essential Album episodes.
BANGERTV - All Metal Good shit BangerTV! Thank you for everything your team does for the Metal community. Metal doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Maybe that’s why we hold it so near and dear. Your channel produces great content for those of us who live and breath it everyday. Cheers!
Slayer is the launchpad for anyone into extreme metal. I can't thank them enough for essentially changing me as a person. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but most metalheads know what I mean. And a HUGE thanks to Banger for having our song Below Hell as the intro/outro for Lock Horns. We are super honoured. Thanks from everyone in the Death Valley Driver camp.
I remember the first time I heard Slayer. I was 13 yo and Alan "Fluff" Freeman played Raining Blood on the Radio 1 Rock Show and it blew my mind! Fortunately, I recorded the show so I could play it back. The next day I was in the back of parents car listening to that song on my walkman as we drove through the Blackwall Tunnel in London. It was is eerie as f**k, such a great moment that I remember to this day. Decade of Aggression had just come out and my Dad bought me the cassette for Christmas that year, along with a South of Heaven t-shirt. Great days!
I saw Slayer on that last tour and was basically center stage but in the back third of the audience, when that fire hit on stage it felt like it was gonna burn off my eyelashes. Insane show.
Thanks for this guys. SLAYER has held a special place in all of our hearts for decades. I know most fans will say the same few albums are the best and their favorites. I have to say that my favorite album is a toss up between Divine Intervention and Christ Illusion. Lyrically these two albums are exactly what I want to be shouting along to. It was nice hearing you talk about it all briefly. Btw I love Death Angel!
I don't normally sit and watch a show for an hour, but...Slayer, so I was obligated. Can I just say In Death Angels Defense, Although not really a heavier album, Act III is a brilliant piece of music.
I'm going to get some grief, but South of Heaven was and still is my favorite. I remember buying it on cassette the day it came out, an I still love it.
I love Slayer. Saw them twice with original lineup ('04 Ozzfest and '09? w/ Megadeth and Anthrax) and on their last tour (Exit 111 in TN (also Anthrax)). I feel so lucky having seen both the OG lineup and on their last tour. With that being said, Death Angel doesn't get enough love. Phenomenal. Hope to see them live one day.
I may not have grown up in the bay area in the 80's but I grew up in Tampa Bay FL during the FL death metal movement and I have to say it was definitely up there with the thrash era.
I was in for a treat as a 15 yrs old I had only heard iron maiden, guns and roses, wasp and Metallica.... And took a chance on buying an album I saw in a record store called reign in blood, strictly by the cover alone. I had wanted to hear something scarier than I had been listening to. I got home, ripped off the plastic celaphane and my life was changed forever! A year later,I saw them on the seasons tour at lamours in Brooklyn. In the front against the stage! Keep banging bangers! You can't bring back someone who doesn't want to come back. Dave is doing well with Misfits and Suicidal Tendencies and is really happy with those bands.

I was 11 when South of Heaven came out. Got it the day after. I had already been listening to Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood for maybe a year leading up to that. They scared the hell out of me - which, of course, made me a huge fan right away! But the change up they threw with South of Heaven made me realize just how heavy a band could be. Believe it or not, South of Heaven helped me make sense of Sabbath. It showed the dynamic of Slayer - they could play faster than anybody and then they could restrain themselves to be just as heavy. Though their catalog is uneven after Seasons (which is holy grail), in my opinion, they’ve always had the same elements that make them uniquely Slayer. They will rightfully go down as one of thee best metal bands ever! FUCKIN’ SLAYYYYEEEERRRRR!!!!
To me, what sets them apart is Dave Lombardo’s drumming. He has such a jazz sensibility. Very much the next-gen Bill Ward. No other thrash drummer of the era comes close.

Great show! I saw Slayer every chance I got. I'll truly miss seeing them live. The best to ever do it! My favorite album is Divine Intervention. I think it's largely overlooked. But songs like 213?! One of their best!!!
I love the new format guys! Great guests, top-notch special effects, and the audio quality and editing are a huge improvement! Can't wait for more Lock Horns! A few nitpicks: I know people complained about Liisa's "Cowbell from Hell" interrupting the chatter, but I feel the "showrunner" aspect is missing. It keeps the conversation moving, reducing the repetition and awkward pauses. Plus I don't understand the 50-minute limit. I could honestly listen to you guys talk for hours, and I understand you want to keep the episode brief, but as a capsule of Slayer's discography, you got to Divine Intervention, didn't have much to say, then that was it. Nothing after 1994, very disappointing. I guess since this was a Redux show, you wanted to focus more on the positives than the negatives. Still, I would like to see more being touched on in future episodes if you review entire band discographies. And finally, if you aren't going to respond to debates on the live chats, maybe bring in guests with opposing viewpoints to actually "Lock Horns" on the show. Or bring up contentious issues in a band's history or the topic being discussed and argue amongst yourselves. Makes for more entertaining conversations! Great to have you back, djents! \m/
Kidding! Appreciate the notes and that your into the new format, We hope after watching a few more episodes you’ll be satisfied. They'll be some classic Essential Bands / Essential Albums episodes we just wanted to start with our farewell to metals most important band, no debate just goodbye.
My friends and I traveled from St. Paul. MN to Souix Falls, SD in November to see them one last time. At the end we all knew it really was the end. They may play a show or benefit in the future but the endless touring is done.
My original raining blood lp still has my blood smeared over the white paper record sleeve. Still have this 34 years. Awesome thanks for the post much appreciated.
Kinda funny I found them the same way. I spent a LOT of time playing Guitar Hero 3 and the first time I heard Raining Blood I immediately told my cousin about it and said dude you have to listen to this. So glad I got to see them a couple years ago for FREE because a friend of my dad's won a couple of tickets.
The whole Favorite Songs segment I was going "please someone say Chemical Warfare please someone say Chemical Warfare please someone say Chemical Warfare YEAAAAHHHHH"
Kick ass album. Dont care what the "general consensus" is. I love pretty much the Slayer catalogue, dont hate any of em. Some I like more than others, but to me they never did anything "bad". UNDISPUTED introduced me to songs I otherwise would not have heard.
I was 16 years old back in '84 when I first heard 'Die By The Sword' on Metal Radio. I have been to many Slayer shows over the years memorably in '86 at The Concert Hall with Toronto's own Sacrafice opening,in '88 with Overkill & Motorhead,in '91 at The Clash Of The Titans Tour at the CNE grounds, fast forward 24 years to 2015 my son & I attended the Slayer show at Rebel with Death Angel & Anthrax. 2018 we were at the Slayer farewell gig at The Budweiser Stage were a Budweiser rep upgraded us from our lawn 'seats' to VIP seating, second row centre stage & I was 1 of 30 Slayer fans in Niagara Falls to attend the screening of the Relentless movie late last year....lol ya you could call me a fan. SLAYERRRRR!!
I first got into slayer in 84 too but living in Australia had to wait until 94 for them to finally make it over here. You're so lucky to see Sacrifice open for them, Forward To Termination is still one of my fav thrash albums.
Really love the space these longform strands give. Sometimes the asides are the interesting bits and things like this new Lock Horns allows breathing room for plenty of that. Great Slayer chat all through.
The 3 best Slayer songs are: 3. At Dawn They Sleep, 2. Chemical Warfare, 1. Seasons In The Abyss The 3 most underrated Slayer songs are: 3. Cult, 2. Dittohead, 1. Point
Love it. I tuned into a video called Lock Horns to watch three dudes agree with each other for an hour, ha ha. Hell, I mostly agreed, too. I would like to have seen a little more coverage of Slayer's later catalog, though. Maybe at least a mention of Dave's return. Christ Illusion won two Grammys. World Painted Blood had some good stuff on it.
World Painted Blood was so PUNK in tone and recording. I loved it. Stripped down SLAYER is my favorite. WPB has had a huge influence on me regarding production and mixing, it follows SEASONS in sound quality. That's why non metal heads love Slayer, they dont get caught up in the big money bloated metal thing, they bring it from the old school.
Ever since it came out, I've been championing South of Heaven. If that album had had the production of Reign in Blood, it would have been the album of the century and the next. Musically, it is a lot more mature than the earlier ones. Also remember sitting on the edge of my bed with my mouth agape listening to War Ensemble for the first time
Saw Slayer 13 times in my life. Never let me down once. Ever. First time back in 1992 when they were on the bill at Iron Maiden's Donnington Monsters Of Rock. Alongside AC/DC, Slayer completely changed my life and it's sad they are finally over, but we'll always have their music, and as long as I'm alive their legacy will never die. \m/
my Answers Top Slayer Album of All Time - Show No Mercy Top 3 Slayer Songs - Die By The Sword, Angel of Death, Raining Blood its a shame how much disrespect has been put to "SHOW NO MERCY" with it almost never being mentioned. its such a perfect Album.
I seen slayer in Dublin on there last tour it was a strange feeling I was almost emotional and I’m not even afraid to admit that it was the best feeling in the world
I appreciate and love BANGERTV - All Metal, Jhoff Films & of course the almighty SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no matter what they will always be one of my personal favorite bands ever. even thought I am a the unfortunate that never got the chance to see them Live due multiple reasons but I do listen to them everyday and never get tired of them. :D and you two are one of my absolute favorite RUclips channels. I love Death Angel as well.
Saw them 20 times. First time was Reign in Blood in Chicago, Aragon Brawlroom 1986. Last time was their last show ever. L.A.Forum. Undoubtedly THE band as far as getting my adrenalin going to its utmost.🤘😎🤘👍✌
Slayer released the Worlds greatest metal Album (Show no mercy), the most influential Album (reign in blood) and also the most underrated Album (diabolus in musica)
I like DIABOLUS. I dont get the hate. Its down tuned, oh no! Otherwise, its slamming metal. Saw them twice in one week on that tour. It was my conversion. Prior to that I was put off by the "evil". Whatever, the band are so great, cant get caught up in perceptions.
Props to Jamie for sure Sam. Always good to have metal representation behind the counter. He made that place worth walking into. So awesome you have done so much for metal and music through your work, thank you.
My favorite Slayer album is show no mercy. The twin guitars, the impossible drums (all cymbals were overdubs), and the satanic aura rocked the fuck out of my stereo for years.
Glad you all are back🤘. Great show. Lombardo was key to Slayer as well as the riffs and songs. First time I saw Slayer was on the Hell Awaits tour. It was the "Black Friday" tour of Slayer, Venom and Exodus at the Aaragon Brawlroom in Chicago. That was a game changer. Exodus with Bayloff, Slayer coming into their own and Venom at their Apex. For Reign in Blood my favorite songs other than Angel and Raining are Alter of Sacrifice, Jesus Saves, Postmortem. .My nick name was "the Slayer dude" because all I wore for two years in high school was all black and my shirt was Slayer Hell Awaits, no other band. Wrote the Slayer ensignia everywhere.
It was 1988 the first time I listened to Slayer. We were at my friend's house listening to metal on his cassette deck and he put on South of Heaven. The intro with the guitar harmonics and the sustained notes on the chorus just blew my mind. The fade into Silent Scream was and still is among the heaviest things ever recorded.
A lot of us younger fans had Guitar Hero. It was a HUGE gateway to metal. Even though the games were milked to death literally, it was a damn good thing ultimately that we had it.
Guitar Hero 3 was also my introduction to Slayer. I wouldn't say Christ Illusion is my favorite Slayer album, that would be Hell Awaits, but it's a very underrated Slayer album Top 3 songs: Praise of Death, Flesh Storm, Altar of Sacrifice
Best album discussion aside, for me the best slayer song ever among many great songs is, hands down ghosts of war. And the best intro is, the intro of south of heaven. Still, everytime i put on the vinyl gives me the chills:)
Saw slayer on their reign in blood tour when no one even knew who they were,, Tickets were like 10 dollars,, Happy to have witnessed these epic crazy pit fueled shows,, No regrets
I think Divine Intervention doesn’t get much hype cuz it came out when grunge and alternative music was blowing up and it was a bad time for thrash. But it remains one of my favorite Slayer albums. The very last track on that album, Mind Control, is a gem that should’ve been the opening song. For me, it’s right up there with all their thrash classics like Raining Blood and War Ensemble. Anyhow, I still listen to Slayer regularly. The endless energy doesn’t get tiring and it keeps that teenager in me alive. I got into them 25 years ago and I have yet to get sick of their music. I probably never will 🤘🏼
In the 80s I got a work experience position with a local independent record shop that was run by a couple of typical 80s rockers, I was into sepultura, anthrax, iron maiden etc, I can remember putting the reign in blood album on and I fell in love with slayer right then, with in the week I stole four slayer tapes, still got them to this day lol.
There is a fill in Necrophiliac which is just perfection. It's great on the album, but there is a live recording of Slayer at Ruthie's Inn in 1985 where they play the song. That fill is short but so overwhelmingly kill you.
Awesome commentary! Great to see especially Ted talk about growing up around where Slayer was playing. It’d be great to see more essential album videos like Mastodon and Sepultura, since this really was an essential album video for Slayer also.😁
Slayer was a HUGE part of my metal upbringing. I got wind of them early on and had to get my hands on more and more. Great episode! My three slayer songs would be Angel of Death, South of Heaven, and I would toss Disciple and Chemical Warfare for 3rd. Favorite albums definitely a Reign in Blood but I also love South of Heaven. SoH also has one of my all time favorite album covers.
My favorite SLAY3R song is Spill the Blood!!! Got little a bit of everything that SLAY3R has to offer... Clean evil moody intro with the heavy open chords going into that chucky groovy verse riff and then those single note harmony chorus riff then all out soloing back to clean evil intro ... Just a masterpiece!!! Then Black Magic cause that was one of the first SLAY3R song to play on guitar... Gotta love Hell Awaits just sounds like you are falling into HELL... Got to see them in L.A. their supposed last show and just seem sad we will never seen these guys again... Love that comment that SLAY3R is Satan's lounge music that is so true!!! FUCKIN SLAY3R!!!
I love Slayer and it's my second favorite band behind Black Sabbath. It's hard for me to pick a favorite album from the band. Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss encapsulate are an unholy trilogy. Diabolus in Musica and God Hates Us All were middle fingers during a low point in American heavy metal.
Back in the day there were two bands that people in the east bay were just waiting for the next album to be released which were slayer and metallica and i remember the first time i saw death angel in 88 in hayward and 20 seconds into the first song the security never seen a mosh pit and thought everyone was fighting and sprayed pepper spray into the audience next thing you know there's police everywhere so i threw a fire extinguisher thru the window just to get out
I never allowed myself to see Slayer and I have been a massive fan for years...I finally got to see them on the repentless tour so missed out on the classic lineup but respect due to Gary Holt and Paul Bostaph who are awesome. There are things that Slayer did to me psychologically that other bands have never done. I have Bipolar anyway and it just flips a switch. Getting into that pit was an experience I'll never forget, felt like I was possessed. Slayer are the greatest and most original sounding of all Thrash bands in my opinion. I can't trust a person that doesn't like Slayer.
This episode was too short! I bought my first Slayer album on a whim. It was 1992 or 1993 and in a second hand store and I seen Reign in Blood. The album cover and name, the band name, and the tracks all appealed to me but seeing Def Jam made me cautious. I decided to take a leap and purchase it and i was immediately hooked!! A moment I will never forget!
I also got very emotional while attending the last european slayer show, at Germany. It was the 4th time that I watched one of my all time favorite metal bands live and it felt really strange. On one side, I was so happy and full of energy because of the intense and totally awesome performance of the band. On the other hand I knew that this is their last show I will ever see, because I think they mean it for real and aren't planning a four times revival show or sth like that.
Although their farewell is undoubtedly painful, in my humble opinion, we should always remain optimistic that sometime in the future, they might just get together again for a reunion tour. We all know these things happen and throughout the history of metal we've witnessed it take place numerous times.
@@Intermentor The bitch of it is, it's likely we would've been able to forgive a band touring again once or twice, but a couple of bands have literally brought in a decade plus long income stream from stating such. I imagine it sucks for an aged musician to have to pass up a chance at feeling the magic again one last time due to feeling self-conscious about being exploitive.
Thanks everyone for watching, chatting and your comments, we appreciate all your feedback. That being said, we felt it was important for Slayer to have the first episode. Lock Horns Redux is going to be a mix these kind of episodes and classic Essential Bands / Essential Album episodes.

I'm so glad Ted said Postmortem. That song just doesn't get enough love by being overshadowed by the obvious classics of Angel of Death/Raining Blood

To me, what sets them apart is Dave Lombardo’s drumming. He has such a jazz sensibility. Very much the next-gen Bill Ward. No other thrash drummer of the era comes close.
Paul Bostaph. He's the only guy who can replace a drummer, and no one else can do it.

@@shaynewest8757 I actually seen Sacrafice a few times before that at the infamous Larry's Hideaway in Toronto lol what a dive.
Chris I see you 👀 goin places baby!!! Live your best life!!!! Jhoff fan!! Represent! FUCKiNG! SLaYER!!!
❤
Really love the space these longform strands give. Sometimes the asides are the interesting bits and things like this new Lock Horns allows breathing room for plenty of that. Great Slayer chat all through.
glad you liked it!
The 3 best Slayer songs are: 3. At Dawn They Sleep, 2. Chemical Warfare, 1. Seasons In The Abyss
The 3 most underrated Slayer songs are: 3. Cult, 2. Dittohead, 1. Point
I agree with your number 3 and number 2, but my number 1 Captor Of Sin.
Most under-rated, in no particular order Gemini, Ghost Of War & Crionics.
@@jaymzb.1713 The main riff in Captor Of Sin is so sick, almost as sick as the lyrics. Gemini is a good pick too, very groovy.
Metal storm face the fucking Slayer
World Painted Blood had some good stuff on it.
this will probably be the ONLY episode like that, Slayer brings out the best in metalheads
@@BangerTV - perhaps you are right. It seems like the biggest dispute among Slayer fans is whether God Hates Us All is listenable or not, ha ha.
Also remember sitting on the edge of my bed with my mouth agape listening to War Ensemble for the first time
Accidentally bought South of Heaven tape back in 95-96 when i was twelve, love it and starting became metal-head!
I saw them on the south tour 89 and final tour 2018. Excellent times.
my Answers
Top Slayer Album of All Time - Show No Mercy
Top 3 Slayer Songs - Die By The Sword, Angel of Death, Raining Blood
its a shame how much disrespect has been put to "SHOW NO MERCY" with it almost never being mentioned. its such a perfect Album.
One more vote for Hell Awaits, here, as Slayer's statement. GREAT ALBUM.
I was fortunate enough to see Slayers 1st and last shows in NY .
more chris on banger. !!!!
slayer had the great production including rick robin and the great andy wallace, thats making them a superb in their recordings.
I seen slayer in Dublin on there last tour it was a strange feeling I was almost emotional and I’m not even afraid to admit that it was the best feeling in the world
I appreciate and love BANGERTV - All Metal, Jhoff Films & of course the almighty SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no matter what they will always be one of my personal favorite bands ever.
even thought I am a the unfortunate that never got the chance to see them Live due multiple reasons
but I do listen to them everyday and never get tired of them. :D
and you two are one of my absolute favorite RUclips channels.
I love Death Angel as well.
Great interview! Slayer is the best topic and ted Aguilar always makes me smile!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Saw them 20 times. First time was Reign in Blood in Chicago, Aragon Brawlroom 1986. Last time was their last show ever. L.A.Forum. Undoubtedly THE band as far as getting my adrenalin going to its utmost.🤘😎🤘👍✌
I'd love to see Kerry King collaborate with Cannibal Corpse for a song or three.
Divine Intervention for me. Changed me forever. Got it tattooed on my elbow.
Great panel, great vid, Hail Slayer!
How could you stop listening to slayer after seasons in the abyss. What the fuck
Missed seeing Slayer in Australia in 2018 unfortunately. Happy at least other bands have come around since
It was 1988 the first time I listened to Slayer.
I wouldn't say Christ Illusion is my favorite Slayer album, that would be Hell Awaits, but it's a very underrated Slayer album
Top 3 songs: Praise of Death, Flesh Storm, Altar of Sacrifice
Hey Ted...Thanks for the amazing gig in Siegburg (GERMANY) at the KUBANA CLUB last year!
Best album discussion aside, for me the best slayer song ever among many great songs is, hands down ghosts of war. And the best intro is, the intro of south of heaven. Still, everytime i put on the vinyl gives me the chills:)
Hell Awaits intro for me
@@sarahmvaz6772 Hell awaits intro is creepy, scary yes. But not so much musical. SOH intro is just something else...for me. Its theatrical almost
Ghosts of war is so underrated. Wish they put it on their setlist for their set for their last run
Saw slayer on their reign in blood tour when no one even knew who they were,,
Tickets were like 10 dollars,,
Happy to have witnessed these epic crazy pit fueled shows,,
No regrets
I probably never will 🤘🏼
T MEX Fuck yeah
In the 80s I got a work experience position with a local independent record shop that was run by a couple of typical 80s rockers, I was into sepultura, anthrax, iron maiden etc, I can remember putting the reign in blood album on and I fell in love with slayer right then, with in the week I stole four slayer tapes, still got them to this day lol.
There is a fill in Necrophiliac which is just perfection. It's great on the album, but there is a live recording of Slayer at Ruthie's Inn in 1985 where they play the song. That fill is short but so overwhelmingly kill you.
Deathhammer from Norway is a great band for that Show No Mercy itch. They throw some Bathory in the mix too
Awesome commentary!
Really hope the later years get discussed!
Back in the day there were two bands that people in the east bay were just waiting for the next album to be released which were slayer and metallica and i remember the first time i saw death angel in 88 in hayward and 20 seconds into the first song the security never seen a mosh pit and thought everyone was fighting and sprayed pepper spray into the audience next thing you know there's police everywhere so i threw a fire extinguisher thru the window just to get out
A very big like to this video. Amazing conversation about slayer. I felt like I was sitting with friends at my livingroom talking about metal. 👍🤘🤘🤘⚡⚡⚡
Zamuro31 that’s the vibe
Great lockhorns episode dudes! Fucken Slayer!!! 🤘🤘
Saw SLAyER in 87- At Warner theatre in DC. Saw 3 times after that. There Killer.
Love this new Lock Horns format !
Yeah. But it is kind of a turnoff when people go on a farewell tour and come back again later.
