Thanks Becky, I use this video as a refresher especially at the part where you show how far down to start attaching the new wick. Grateful to see a woman doing these tutorials as men do not seem to always refer to things as detailed. Good job and thanks again.
I just subscribed my son watch someone else's video when changing a wick 2 weeks ago now our other kerosene heater needs a new Wick and I stumbled on your video SO MUCH better than the one he watched Thank U !!!
Best video i have found. None of the other ones show you just how deep to reinstall the wick. I was having one hell of a time. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Very well done!
Becky you are awesome... i just bought a 20 thousand dollar house built in 1930, had a couple of these heaters in the basement, following your instructions now to change my wick..so far hugely helpful and easily followed. I am moving out of my comfortable 1980's house in the suburbs to rent it out and get a little savings going. going to be roughing it in this new house.. no insulation, needs new wiring and heating and cooling.. but i couldn't be happier.. will be installing my ventless gas logs soon., too bad you don't give info on those :-) take care hope you have a wonderful new year. thanks again.
was a little hesitant, watched your video, took my 2230 outside and change the wick out in 35 minutes, you made it EZPZ, thankyou for the instruction - )
Great going, Becky! I watched 3 on this subject; yours was concise, accurate, and simple. One gentleman made it difficult, yours was straight to the point. Thank you. Love your home, BTW! -Senior Master BMW/Porsche tech, retired. (male)
Becky and son, I really enjoy your informative great videos. I just ordered my Kerosene Heater this week end. I am not afraid to clean it when it's time. Thank you all and Blessings !
Thank you Becky for clear instructions, a sense of humor, and valuable information about homesteading! Following in your footsteps. Today I learned about kerosene heaters. Marcia Yrineo
Becky, great job on this video. You did a great job. I didn't know how to replace the wick and thought it might be hard to do, but after watching this video, you made it look very easy. Thanks
Round and round she goes, where she stops, no one knows. :-) I just ordered one of these yesterday. I'd watched a few videos on them in the past, and was recently reminded of them. I often explore older skills and technologies. Frequently, after dinner, I turn out the lights and light some candles while winding down watching TV. I've been thinking of getting a kerosene lamp or three. These heaters are like a kerosene lamp on steroids. My house is all electric. There's something comforting and relaxing about heating, and lighting, with fire. Yours is the first wick changing video I've seen that mentions testing the safety device. Thank you for that!!!
A little more involved than I thought it would be, but certainly doable with your video! Thank you! My brother accidentally put Fuel Oil in his heater instead of kerosene, and I recommended a wick change and tank clean out. Please let me know if you think of anything else he should do. Thanks again!
Thanks for this - I bought a kerosene heater for my garage none of the instructions were in English and when I ordered the replacement wick every language except English ! ! So you’ve demystified this process for me 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. On my heater, to disassemble I needed only to take off the 2 case bolts like you did at first.....the trickiest part was fitting the new wick into the cylinder, and smoothing all the wrinkles. I wore mechanic's nylon gloves to disassemble/reassemble, then switched to disposable vinyl gloves to handle the old wick (which was saturated with kerosene after several months in summer storage). I probably could have replaced the wick just by reading the manual, but seeing someone do it made it much easier.
I heat my garage with kerosene, I love the warmth of it. These heaters are terrific. If you start them outside and bring them in a few minutes later, you wont have the smell. Always run these things on high, they smoke on low sometimes. Great video!
So 2 things for everyone here.. . You don't need to remove the top just remove the 2 screws and lift the handle up top! Real easy! Also there is a staple at the bottom of the new wick that needs to be removed lest it be lost in your tank
I like your style. I was trying to watch a man do this, and he kept complaining and talking too much, so I was cursing at him and gave up and found you. Your thorough and nurturing, and I didn't swear at all. Thanks
Nice video....just wanted let you know that you don't need to take the whole top apart , just remove the two screws and lift up and off.It saves time when changing the wick.
Thank you you literally saved the night, my 125lb doga ate the unit, so we needed heat it's 21 degrees in Alabama lol . We had an old heater in the basement without a wick. Thank you!
@captain scentsible39 One guy on another karosene heater videp said as long as you use the unit properly , like dont hold down the electric ignition immediate after you see a flame , if you hold it down it will burn the wick , and let yoyr wick soak for a couple of hours before trying to light it because lighting it with out it being fully saturated will damage the wick and then they said once you get it lit to trim the wick so not that much is sticking up and the flame is burning blue ( efficiently ) , do all those things and the guy said he changes his wick about 1 time per year. He did say but an extra wick because you dont want to have to be going out to the store to find a wick in a snow storm. And they also said to burn the proper fuel , seems like most were saying K1 kerosene ( make sure its clear , no dyes ) the dyes damage the wick too. ALMIGHTY YAHWEH ❤️and MESSIAH KING YAHSHUA, Jesus' real Hebrew NAME that means YAHWEH SAVES ❤️please bless and keep you ❤️🙂 i hope this helps , i too am learning and just passing along what i learned so far ❤️🙂
So far, you are the only video that explains how to align the wick properly, how to check it and to make sure the safety feature works. Almost caused a bad mishap following other videos. Thank you
you made it look so easy. I have been worried about changing mine and am going to do it today. We have an ice storm coming so want it for in case of power outage.
Loved your video, You went and explained everything very well and very detailed too using the camera. I just bought one and been trying to figure this out, I've haven't used one sense I was living at home 35 years ago. Thanks
I've used a kerosene heater for years during outages. Kept our family warm during some really cold times. Even just for emergencies it's worth the purchase. Always ventilate!
@@caragare3214 Depends on how much you use your heater. It will run more efficiently if the wick is kept turned down at a respectful level once it gets going. It helps the wick burn evenly and efficiently. My mom would clean the wick with additive and a toothbrush once in a while before lighting hers. Good luck with yours!
Im here listening to vidoes to try and work out why my Kero heater smells so bad. No way I could put it inside. I use the right kero. 1st time using and the black smoke was awful. Turned it off and cleaned it out of all the soot. Tried again and wiggling that spring got the inside set right so no smoke now but the kero smell is beyond tolerable. Ive left it outside and emptied the tank as much as possible to do a dry burn and hopefully that will burn off any bad stuff then will try again. So frustrating when I hear such good reports and I cant work out why mine stinks.
What are you talking about? That was a fantastic and simple technique. Instead of tearing others down that are brave enough to put themselves out there, how about you suggest a better way. The devil is inside you.
I use to watch Beckys vids all the time! I don't know if she is still posting videos now! If the wick has pins it is dummy proof! When you have to press it in then it can be stressful but it must be level or it will smoke!
Thanks for the demonstration! I live in a suburban home and have been using a kerosene heater on the 1st floor. It saves tons of money... The new intro is a lot better btw. Great channel, I spent a good portion of the day watching your videos.
Very good demonstration. Does it have an automatic battery operated lighter switch on it, because mine does. I do light with a match too when I don't replace the batteries.
Winter- Dec Maine - Wick replacement - Thank you for having this video ! Thank you soo much. and this worked for my Omni 105 Heater.. a lot them must just be made the same way.. many thankx!!!!
appreciate the video, dont mind the people criticizing you as they where looking for a video on how to change a wick too..cause they have no clue lol !!! my model was alittle different but i got the basic's from watching your video , thanks!
Watching you do some manual work got me subscribing. The part where you used the screwdriver to release the wingnut got me, that was something I never thought of to do to release the nut. I watched what your channel was all about, not I'm very interested in how you're living. Looking forward to the way you're living in the future. Thank you for sharing your channel and the content Becky!
My easy and your easy are different !😂. My easy is one swipe with a snow shovel or turning a thermostat! This would take me two days and I would call my neighbor. Thank you for good video. You seem like a fun person!
I love my kerosene heater as well. Very powerful and reliable. Great for cabins and power outages. However, they do have drawbacks. One is the fine black soot that will collect on walls, drapes and such if used everyday. You'll also notice the siding directly above your windows get a fine layer of soot above, even on the tightest sealed homes over time. It's also no where near cost effective when used as your primary heat source as opposed to natural gas or even oil heat. Like 4 to 1. Great for garages, basements, in a pinch power outages, ect. I've done the testing and when using the heater to warm my small 900 sq ft house I can easily burn $10/day in fuel. My natural gas bill has never been above $130 for even the coldest months, and that includes my dryer and hot water heater. I love using it though as it's comfortable staying warm without the furnace kicking on.
Helpfull video Becky ... I get so exited when show us the wick's black line and read "Made in chile" maybe here is the land of the kerosene heater with the poorest kerosene quality ... Thanks from chile !!
Mine was a little different. But close enough that this helped be a lot. Especially the part of the end where I need to wait one hour. I did find it funny there was a part there close to the end that I don’t think you put in there when you were supposed to put in there but it kind of disappeared in the next part of the video. All smiles.
Great video Becky, I received a used unit from a friend that his father didn't want it anymore. How can I tell if it needs a new wick ? It does light and the wick goes from low to high in a minor increment.Thanks..?
Love the video, gave me a couple hints next time I replace my two wicks. One idea I got from my cousin - IF you are careful not to continuously burn the flame to high - is to adjust the wick slightly higher than recommended. We leave about 1/2 inch at the top of the wick. When one runs the tank dry to burn off the soot, a tiny bit of the wick burns off with it. By the end of the season, the wick is too short, and one has to either re-install it or put up the the smell of a too short wick. With the longer top, we just carefully adjust the flame level at each lighting. The caveat is to be really careful the wick isn't set too high early in the season, or the unit gets hotter than it should. We are fairly "religious" about checking the flame level before leaving it burn, and anyone who isn't should follow the factory directions to stay out of trouble.
Becky can make things sound so easy we are having a headache with our white one we have a old white one but . Now we have a new one that's black and it's not where it's probably basically the same thing but where but I see what you're doing but you got it on screw all the screws right I'm just going to watch you and let you show me what to do
I have noticed that all the people on RUclips that talk about kerosene heaters don't use the button thing that lifts up the door to light without the glow plug working they do it the hard way to light the wick by lifting it up inside with their hand it's easier to push the button that lifts it up when you light it like a battery glow plug way but not touch the glue plug
Great job. Just got two of them as a prepper. Wish they had safety features when i was a child. I tipped one over and my leg caught on fire and burned all the skin off my leg!
Prepped??????????? Your life should ALWAYS be a minimalist life, not a “just in case” how ridiculous. I don’t take anyone serious that says they are a “prepped”.
Hello there!! Thank you for this video. I have this same model. Kept in reserve for power outages. I've only used it once in 10 years. I have a question. At the 3 minute 55 second mark you "lift this entire assembly out..," Have you ever had a problem where the assembly WILL NOT LIFT OUT? Nor will the wick height adjuster move the wick up from the OFF/STORED position. I can't get mine apart or get the wick to raise for operation.., Thanks.
I have a question, is it normal for a small section of the wic to have a higher flame than the rest. When I have the wic adjusted to the right flame hight, one section is higher by 1/2 to 3/4 higher. Should I replace the wic?.
thank you soooo much . my friend let 2 men try they fail I said let me Google and your the first one I watch and I think I can do it. Thank you so much for all details . wish me luck.
Every heater I've seen or instruction on says to drain, siphon or burn off the fuel before changing the wick. Trying to change one out soaked like that can be hazardous, especially if you get fuel all over.
It's nice these things can be used as house heat as a last resort if furnace malfunctions or dies(it's happened to me more than once)in cold winter months because electric space heaters or baseboard heat isn't going to do it when a house or apartment gets as low as 45 degrees.
becky i watch and love all of your videos i live in australia in the city i would much prefer to live like you thank you for sharing a part of your life with us on youtube much appreciated i look forward to many more videos
Thank you Becky for a great informative video. I do have a question or two. How long does one fill up last with the one you use? Also, how much does Kerosene cost in your area? Thank you again.
Thanks Miss Becky because I have to do the same thing to my heater even though I'm down here in fort Lauderdale Florida but yeah it gets kind of cold sometimes but I bought that heat on I was up in Jacksonville and it's kind of hard to find kerosene but at least I found a hardware store that carries it okay see you don't want to be you
Dry burn wick at the end of season. Once dry, store your heater with wick raised. Cover heater with plastic trash bag to prevent dust, dirt, rodents from getting into heater.

Very well done. Of all the videos I've seen about changing wicks, this is by far the best demonstrated and presented.
Glad to see you back. missed you and your simple lifestyle, Cold in Florida today (Friday) and tomorrow. Is that heater keeping your place warm...
Absolutely every home should have one of these heaters, they're essential for winter power failure.
That looks a whole lot easier than what I've seen. Having said that you're the only one I've seen that's showed the inside. Thank you!

It's nice these things can be used as house heat as a last resort if furnace malfunctions or dies(it's happened to me more than once)in cold winter months because electric space heaters or baseboard heat isn't going to do it when a house or apartment gets as low as 45 degrees.
GOOD JOB BECKY !
becky i watch and love all of your videos i live in australia in the city i would much prefer to live like you thank you for sharing a part of your life with us on youtube much appreciated i look forward to many more videos
Thank you Becky for a great informative video. I do have a question or two. How long does one fill up last with the one you use? Also, how much does Kerosene cost in your area? Thank you again.
Any advice on what to do if the tip over switch/ manual shutoff WON’T work? I have 2 and can’t solve this problem..
Many Thanks! Great instruction video!!! God bless!
Thanks Miss Becky because I have to do the same thing to my heater even though I'm down here in fort Lauderdale Florida but yeah it gets kind of cold sometimes but I bought that heat on I was up in Jacksonville and it's kind of hard to find kerosene but at least I found a hardware store that carries it okay see you don't want to be you
Thanks Becky after watching your video i believe I'll become a successful kerosene wic
"Do it myselfer"😁👍
Greetings and as always I love 💘 your posts. Is it safe to use Kerosene heaters on the inside??
Thanks for the instructions Becky.

Thank you Becky you just save me bundle will be replacing my own wick this weekend
RUclips videos make everything look easy. 😂 fml i’m ready to throw mine across the house
Kerosene is $10 a gallon here, so it's not an option for regular use. Thanks for sharing and showing how easy it is to maintain the wick.
I'm getting it around 3.50 a gallon but it's a little dirty I think. Idk I'm having smoke problems
Dry burn wick at the end of season. Once dry, store your heater with wick raised. Cover heater with plastic trash bag to prevent dust, dirt, rodents from getting into heater.
your video is very well done!
I love your vids. You're the bomb. How to life more affordably.
Thank you Becky, i just bought a wick and i was wondering how to replace it.
