    i"m wondering about threading those u-bolts they are usually rolled threads and do not have enough meat on them to extend the threads with a die

      You’re correct that was just temporary. I bought the correct length u bolts and replaced all the ones I modified. Thank you for your comment!

    I had a 46. Had a Ford 302 ci V8 with a 750 cf eldy carb. 3 1/2 in oval tube dual exhaust wt flow masters. Custom bumpers and push guard that really worked. And 35 in ground hogs with rearc springs. You have to modify the fire wall and floor for the motor and trans. Extend the nose about 1/34 inches and reset the dish for the water pump pulley. And definitely put in a heavy rear drive line. Schedule 120 wall works best because it’s short. And top it off with your full cage roll bar and 5point harness.
    Dam near killed me too. Throttle stuck open. Let someone else work on it and they removed the choke rod and upper plate. It Let the butterfly plate tab rotate over so when I stood on it. The linkage went past the tab and wouldn’t let it come back when I took my foot off.
    Moral of the story is:
    Make sure you take your time and check your work. Sometimes it’s the littlest things that kill people!!
    Broke my neck!

    They look nice but the amount of machining and weight, ouch.
    Another idea is just flip the u-bolts. There are kits for ~$200 an end but with new U-bolt you can do it for less than $100 total with all new u-bolts.

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  3 года назад

      The machining was a lot but it stripped away most of the weight. They look dang cool! I’ll have to look into that, thanks!

  • @jacobjohns6047

    Gotta be careful reusing Ubolts they are designed to stretch as you tighten the nuts so when you go to reuse them they have been weakened

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  3 года назад +1

      You’re right if you torque u bolts down you should never reuse them. I never torqued these down but I ended up buying the correct length and swapped them out. Thanks for watching!

  • @TheOldaz1

    No good re-threading those U bolts. If you look close you'll see the original thread is larger diameter than the new thread you put on there due to the way those U bolts have been made. That modification you did would be OK on old style U bolts but is downright dangerous on those.

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  3 года назад

      I noticed the threads on the u bolt were formed and not cut. They are fine thread and everything tightened up good. I probably will order the correct length before I hit the road. Thank you for watching!

    Love the videos, but if you need calculator to divide by two maybe working on a vehicle should be done by others. I’m sure you can, but if you can’t don’t work on something you drive.
